My son had to wait until he’s 5 years old. Ok. We’re super stoked and could hardly wait… but now he’s been going & ms Kiley is his instructor. I believe he’s doing very well. We don’t have experience to draw from. but, we’re HAPPY! Our son is excited about learning and shows us quite a bit of what he’s learned. Now daddy’s inspired & looking for a class to join as well! ;-) will post more again later. Our next review will include family update :-D

I visited Oahu for the month of June. During that time I took group classes with two local women and three private lessons. Mr. Sakuma came in twice to teach strumming. It was all terrific! I came home actually playing my sweet ukulele. The sessions were relaxed and very comfortable. The cost was very reasonable. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful — so much aloha with a stress-free musical environment. I play my ukulele everyday now with absolute confidence. Thank you so much.

Unilocal 100 Challenge #44/100 Today we went there for our makeup lesson. They usually come out and say to come in. After about 7 minutes I noticed that my son and I was still in the waiting area. I asked his teacher Miss Nelly if it was at X time. She said it was and apologized. I was like, «Not a problem.» She asked if we could stay to a little later. I was okay for sure. I also saw Roy there and didn’t recognize his wife Kathy was out there too. I thanked them and went out to the waiting area. Kathy came out shortly after and let me know that she was very sorry and she was going to comp his make up lesson and today’s lesson. They really didn’t have to and I let her know that, but she insisted. That was so very nice of them and I really appreciated her thoughtfulness. I was also happy that I could thank her and her husband for the Ukulele festival that they put on every year for the last 44 years. Shortly later Mr. Sakuma and Kathy were leaving and they both said goodbye and sorry once again. They are both such wonderful folks and even their staff like Miss Nelly. As I previously wrote we are very happy coming to the Roy Sakuma Ukulele Studio. Thank you so much Roy, Kahty and Nelly. You guys are the best!

It has been a while since someone has written a review for this place. The best ukulele experiences I have had! Classes are challenging, fast paced, and fun. A very intimate setting as classrooms go. Not more than 6 in a class. Child and adult classes are available. As well as any level of experience. One of the very best things I have to say for my class in particular is that my comfort zone has been pushed(in a good way). Because the classes are so small, everyone gets the help they need in the areas where they may be struggling. For example, singing and strumming. A challenge I face on a weekly basis. But I get an opportunity to try(sometimes fail miserably) but it is all part of the learning experience. You get the tips you need and try again next week. All of the teachers/instructors are well versed in their trade. Kudos to Roy Sakuma’s Ukulele Studio. I’m going to keep coming back!

I love taking ukulele lessons at Roy Sakuma Studio! My teacher Nelly is absolutely the best. She’s a super talented, amazing teacher and also so much fun to talk story with. I’ve been going for about 5 months now. Lessons are 30 min every week. I am in a «group lesson» which is actually only 2 – 3 people in my class, so there is plenty of one on one attention during each lesson. The structure of the class lets students progress very quickly. We learn so many things in such a short time, both strumming and picking. Each week’s lesson builds a few new things in addition to what was previously learned, so that very quickly I have accumulated a book full of songs of increasing difficulty to play. If you are thinking about taking ukulele lessons but are nervous or hesitant for any reason, get over it, call up Roy Sakuma and get started! You won’t regret it. I have been meaning to do this for years, and am now wondering why I didn’t get started sooner. It is so much fun and such a fulfilling way to spend time.

This place is awesome! I look forward to every session with Wendy. She is a great teacher and very talented. The age group of students starts from the very young 5yo to the retired. Small intimate classes that allow you to get the attention you need to progress.

Affordable and fun for all ages. My son loves his ukulele lessons here. It’s fun for him and he learns a lot and enjoys playing his current songs for me at home. They group kids by age and ability so there’s no feeling of being left behind or not being good enough. The teachers are all friendly and really good with their students. My son looks forward to his lessons every week and it’s refreshing to find a place that puts a child having fun while learning to love music. A total positive experience.
