This review is for Zippys as whole not just this location. Zippys should be called Rip-pys instead. The company has been identified as a local Dennys but really is just a typical bland food restaurant that uses its name to stay afloat with the older generation. You can go to numerous places with better food and identical prices… Look at my burger. It was 7.95…i can go to teddy’s for a real burger at the same price. I think in its time long ago, Zippys was likely great, but it has over stayed it’s welcome with prices creeping up every year. It’s weird that take out cost the same, but are given less food when compared to dine in… Hmmmm… Guess buy the time you get home you don’t care. I would give a 0 star, but I do love the taste of the chicken.

Right off the plane, my friends asked me where I wanted to go and the first place I could think of was ZIPPY’S! Growing up in Hawaii, it’s been such an amazing treat and leaving the islands made me miss it even more. Whenever I visit, I always hit up a Zippy’s. Today’s visit happened to take place at the King st. location! One thing I love about this place is the fact they have two dining options: one area for quick meals and a sit down restaurant area. The restaurant area is your typical diner; booths, diner feel, the whole nine yards. We decided to have a nice breakfast meal in the restaurant so we’re not feeling a sense of being rushed. Our server, nice young man, was super personable. He frequently checked on us and offered some suggestions. In the end, here’s what I got: –For breakfast, I got the mini corned beef hash and eggs plate. I think the price was around $ 6. Totally worth it. It comes with one scoop of white rice, one egg made your way and a serving of homemade corned beef. That’s the kicker, it’s homemade. Chunks of potatoes, nice shredded beef. This was definitely a great dish! –My friends and I shared the Chili and Chicken mixed plate for $ 9.10. This dish has always been my favorite growing up. Their fried chicken is always thigh meat, always crispy and always flavored well. The chili is unlike any other. Creamy and packed with spices. This dish is also served with corn on the side. I LOVETHISDISH! Zippy’s will always be a staple whenever I go to Hawaii. It’s one of the reasons why I love food. How could you not go wrong with this place! If you’re ever here, you need to go to one and try it out!

The best Zippy’s in the honolulu area, 2nd best Zippy’s on the island. We got our Thanksgiving dinner from here. Quick, easy and delicious. I’ve ordered in the morning when it’s slightly busy, lunch-time when it’s unbelievably busy and 11 at night when it’s almost empty. Regardless, we always get excellent service. They open more registers when it’s busy and cashiers are always friendly. I’ve never had bad food from here and we get our food fast. Mucho thanks to Mccully Zippy’s for being so reliably great.

This location is a fantastic place because of their newly renovated restaurant and i was happy with the food that i got and i have good food here and thensome. Also this is the one of the locations that I don’t get to go often as well as eating at a zippy’s. I have to say that this location is a good place to eat because if you are hungry for anything at the late night hours then this is a good place for you late night owls, which is open 24 hrs 7 days a week. Also i enjoy the eating at the location because i had a good experience a while back when I ate there and I ate at the restaurant side and i am glad that I ate especially after having a late night outing and they know exactly what I wanted and I hope i can be able to get together and eat there soon

Is fast food ever an acceptable option in lieu of authentic eats? Of course it is and to deny their existence and place in the landscape of eateries is just silly. So the better question might be: When is fast food an acceptable option? And the best possible answer I could ever come up with: When that fast food is from Zippy’s. Their food is comforting, tasty, oh so satisfying and only found in Hawaii. And I’m sure they may even offer healthier menu options but if I wanted to be good, I’d be eating my raw local organics back home. I am therefore obliged to eat only deliciously deep fried proteins, super sticky starchy white rice, and then wash down each meal with a slice of haupia cake when I’m out here. BMI be damned. I am willing to go so far as to admit that before our flight back home, I even made sure to procure a couple Zip Pacs to go. You should’ve seen the jealous looks on the plane when I took one of ‘em out. I just have to wonder why such a staple of Hawaii isn’t in Vegas yet? Zippy’s Las Vegas would be the best.

Consistent old food and service. Left my take out order behind at the pick up counter and came back 3 hrs later. They happily made me a fresh plate. Great local place with the Aloha spirit.

What the hell happened to Zippy’s!!! I brought some guests from the mainland to Moiliili location takeout. The chili burrito lookd like it was stepped on before it was fried, the side order of garlic bread was a 2″ circular cut of bread, & the chicken was the size of a pidgeon!!! Wow! Cant believe how low Zippys has fallen! They were always a bit more expensive but u could always be sure of what you were getting. Apparantly, no longer. Auwe! Very very sad and very embarassing for me bringing my guest who heard of Zippys from friends. Im very disappointed, embarassed, & down rite pissed off! Tell all those mainland guys Zippys isnt anywhere what it was before.

Everyone agrees this is one of zippy’s better locations. Service is super-fast and there are no stupid chairs(booths only). Try the oxtail soup… but be aware they put peanuts in the bottom of the stuff! The oxtail here has sooo much meat, as well as a couple other ingredients I wish I could remember. I live strolling down(interesting) king street and dropping in.

This McCully location was a hangout for me back in high school. Gravy Rice for 35¢ was a lifesaver. Pure comfort food here. Strange, but when you leave Hawai’i, this is what you crave. Chili, Zip Pacs, mac salad, Prime Burger, Wun Tun Min, Apple Napples, etc., etc. Zippy’s is an institution and a part of our local culture…

I would like to preface that this rating is for the McCully Zippy’s only and not the other establishments. I would have give then a zero if I could. Went to the takeout and was met with the most unpleasant staff. No one smiled or even greeted anyone. When I got my order I had to ask for napkins for take out. The people there didn’t even acknowledge me when I requested as they were talking to each other. When I ate the Portuguese omelet sandwich there was eggshells in one of them and several were undercooked and runny — since I was already on my way to my destination I wasn’t going back. Be sure to check your food from here before leaving. Recommend going to any other Zippy’s anywhere else. Will not go back to this location.

I just wanted to start off saying that this was probably the most unpleasant experience in a while I had because of the service we got. I don’t know if our waitress was okay or what because she seemed like she was just everywhere and no where for that matter. Food: I got my usual a zip min, as I opened it I was bummed because I usually like a decent amount of soup. However my zip min barely had soup in it, it was late I just wanted to eat and go home so I didn’t ask about it or anything, and you’ll see why. My mom had the Korean fried chicken, of course it was Ono. My dad had the oxtail soup and he loved it. Service: It was a busy night for a Thursday night, but we were seated semi fast. It was just my mom and I at first. When we got seated we told them we’d need another menu because 1 more person was coming. Our waitress then came over didn’t introduce herself(her name was Sally though) and was very rude. She did give us water though, then She left us alone for a long time even when my father came too. When my mom flagged her down to say we were ready to order she replied«yeah I coming». Okay well we ordered. And for some reason she kept giving my dad what I ordered. Even after I raise my hand each time that I was the one who ordered a zip min. Anyway as we were about finished, she was no where near us, my mom noticed the waitress kept staring off into the distance looking around but not really paying attention. She then came over I had to say«excuse me» with my hand up. I then asked if I could order a chili to go and she gave me attitude on that saying«it’s cheaper in the front you should get it there» because the restaurant has one size. I understand that but I don’t know why she was giving attitude, maybe it was late and she wanted to go home, after all we did hear her say that to a co-worker super loud. We really wanted to just get out of there but she took her sweet time with getting our bill done. I will always come back to this location but hopefully I don’t have her as a waitress.

I don’t know, every time we’re in a mood for Zippy’s, we wander in, looking forward to good local food, and we always leave a little disappointed. Recently came here for dinner, and I ordered some kind of Korean-style chicken. It seemed little more than chicken dipped in shoyu, and it was dry to boot. My daughter had chicken karrage, and she didn’t finish it… and this is normally one of her favorites at other, less expensive places. Nice, mellow atmosphere, nice service, but the food? In my opinion, there is better food for the same price or less. We still really like the bakery(Napoleon Bakery) in front, though.

Satisfied with this chain restaurant. I got the chili nachos since they are known for chili, I ate all of it: X quite enjoyable. Brother got the Saimin salad, which was good but only use half the sweet teriyaki sauce they serve with it. Husband liked his zip pac but said his chicken was too salty, it seemed all the salt got on his piece lol. Napoleon bakery is connect to this franchise and my sister recommended the apples Napples which is like an apple turn over. It is definitely worth a try if you like sweet apple and flakey crust.

There seems to be an requirement for the dining room; if you are over 70, you must be accompanied by your son or daughter or grand kid. Looks like this is where people take their parents /grandparents to eat lunch. And here I am with a 10 year old! Too funny! So parking was a breeze. Lots at 1:00pm. We came in for banana splits but ended up having lunch. Our server was taking a long time so the seating person took our order. Grrr! The patty melt was surprisingly good. The bread was perfectly toasted and the burger was nice. The onion rings were greasy and way overdone. The BLT ended up being a BLOT(Bacon, Lettuce, Onion, Tomato). My nephew was NOT happy. He hates onions. «Seriously, this is so NOT a BLT, aunty!!» We fished them out and that was that. What can I say about the hot fudge sundae, except, Booyah! Well done. I think they do need to pay a little more attention the the restroom. It was quite pilau. People, no make pilau! Treat it as if it were your own!

Always our first stop after landing in Oahu! BF and I usually make it out to Hawaii at least once a year for the past 6 years and our first stop after leaving the airport is Zippys. This location is conveniently located on the way to Waikiki from the airport. BF usually goes with the Korean Fried Chicken while I went for the Zip Pac. The Zip Pac comes with spam, terry beef, fried chicken, and a fish filet. Love that they come in «mini» versions too if you don’t eat too much. It comes with 2 scoops of rice topped with furikake. The KFC is yums as well, but I like a bit more variety. Our friends usually order the chili and chicken, which I’ve never tried, but they seem to loooove it. All Zippys also have a bakery section where you can order pies, pastries, and cakes. But we’ve always just gone to pig out on the meals. This Zippys location has both a takeout/fast food area and diner setup. And is open 24 hours! No matter which Zippys though, it always satisfies our cravings! We usually end up at Zippys 2 – 3 times during our weeklong stays.

So you mean to tell me I can get rice dishes and soup 24⁄7? Why don’t we have one of these in VA! Zippy’s can be found all over Hawaii. Lucky ducks! It’s a bakery and restaurant. My top favorite things here would have to be their Fried Chicken and Chili. Bomb. The chicken was so crisp on the outside and juicy within. Seasoned perfectly, not overly salty. Prices are reasonable. Plenty of seating is available. It did take awhile for our order to get ready, but the employees were friendly. Restrooms are outside the restaurant, ask them for the code.

A staple of Hawaii and all things local, Zippys has become part of my monthly dinner routine. This review is for the dine in restaurant where the service is always friendly and efficient and never fails to satisfy my cravings. I usually order the complete meal with either Corn Chowder or Portugese Bean Soup to start. Both options are made to perfection and is appropriate in size as to not fill you up too much. My entrée is usually the Chili Frank with Mac salad. The flavor is nothing short of amazing, but portion size could be larger. For Desert I usually have the haupia cake or Apple Pie ala mode. The apple pie is my favorite as the filling is the perfect amount of sweet and crunch of the apple. Parking: onsite parking where a spot is never hard to come by.

Of the 22 Zippy’s locations on Oahu, I like this one the best. I have a long history with this location. During high school, it was the go-to place after school, after movies, after the beach. Then during college it was the go-to place after clubbing, bar hopping, etc. And now, it’s my go-to in the mornings on the way to work for either a cinnamon danish from the bakery side, or fried rice on the take-out side. Service can be slow at times, but that seems to be the case at most Zippy’s locations. This location has both a casual take-out side, as well as dining side with wait staff. Prices are higher in the dining room, but the menu is larger. My other favorite things to eat here are: chili, fried chicken, korean chicken, fried noodles, saimin, and the legendary, often-imitated-but-never-duplicated, ZIPPAC! Located on S. King Street, right hand side right after Washington Intermediate(between Punahou and McCully St.).

This is the spot. Back in my youngin’ days, this was the go-to after the clubs because it was the perfect location AND it was 24 hours! The dining room and take out area had a beautiful face lift just in the last couple of years. Before that, there used to be a jukebox in the dining room that you could bump your sounds to and a tree(yes, an actual tree) in the middle of the take out eating area. Ahh the good ol’ days. Not many other places has the vast selection of local favorites, the accessibility, the competitive prices(it’s def gone up over the decades), and the sheer number of locations as Zippy’s. It’s not just a restaurant. It’s a symbol of Hawaii. It’s the place that all the college kids want to go to after they come home from snow and studying. It’s the landmark of the islands that have seen generation after generation walk through the doors. I can’t even begin to tell you the stories from the hunnabudda days of dessert pudding, the hot mustard on the side of saimin(ramen) on a rainy day, the Portuguese sausage and eggs for after-clubbing noms, and the mini fried chicken plate after working the late shift. Zippy’s may not have the best quality food, but it’s food for the local soul.
