Yesterday, I was in the Hooksett area. Wanted some Lunch, but did not want to wait(pet peeve). Chinese sounded good, so I stopped in. The menu looked to be pretty traditional, just with«new» names. I ordered one of the lunch specials(#14). A guy pan, fried rice, egg roll. I asked for some vegetables to be added, and the waitress was very willing to accommodate me. I think her service was the best part of the experience, outside. of the facts it was quick, easy, and relatively economical. It was a bit heavy on the brown sauce for my taste. But that’s just me. The biggest drawback to the restaurant is the interior. It definitely could use a make-over. Overall, I would go back, when I’m in the area for lunch.

Ordered food for take-out. They said 10 – 15 minutes. It took over 30 minutes… while I was waiting the girl hung out outside smoking and chatting with her friend. I got my food and all but one item was ice cold. My husband got warm food… the rest of us ate cold Chinese food. Not impressed at all. Am in no rush to go back again.

Personally think there is no better takeout Americanized Chinese food in the area(manch, hooksett, etc) and it’s been my family’s go-to since I was a child. The only reason for 4 and not 5 is because of their dining-in experience. You still can enjoy their perfect crab Rangoon, chicken fingers, and teriyaki sticks… But it just has a dirty bar atmosphere! Gives it that Chinese restaurant charm!

Great chinese food with a Cantonese flavor. They have a great shrimp and lobster sauce as well as barbecued pork fried rice that is just delicious. I also like there teriyaki chicken. I mostly do take out but they have dining as well inside. There’s a bar but I don’t hang out there when I get Chinese food. This is my go-to place when I visit New Hampshire.

If you like listening to loud, obnoxious townies swearing up a storm and thinking they’re geniuses at solving the problems of the world, go for it. If you like your hostess/server dressed in a motorcycle bar hoodie and calling you«Hun», knock yourself out. If you like chewy general Tso’s chicken, mushy flavorless rice, crab Rangoon devoid of any crab and heavy on the onion, empty and over fried egg rolls and inedible wings clearly all fried in oil that hasn’t been changed in an extremely long time, this is the place for you! We ordered two combo plates and one app and only thing remotely edible was the Lo Mein which had only two julienned slices of pork in it. Don’t waste your time or money. Obviously, they only stay alive selling drinks to the untamed locals in the bar. The food was bad and the patrons rude, even after they were informed that there was a a lady waiting for food(me) and customers in the dining room.

Tonight was the first time I’ve had New Canton, although I’ve lived near it for a long time. Looking for a new experience, my boyfriend and I decided to take out from them. They have a typical Chinese menu, although I was disappointed that they didn’t offer any tofu or bean curd dishes, which is what I normally go for. We ended up ordering the chicken and broccoli, general’s chicken, an order of egg rolls and an order of ravioli. The egg rolls were good, slightly too mushy on the inside, but the crispy roll was nice and non-greasy. The ravioli on the other hand were fantastic. Flavorful, light and perfectly bite sized. For the main dishes, the general’s chicken was great. Many times the chicken in general gaos is chewy end pieces but the chicken in this dish was tender and juicy. The sauce was light(although there was a lot of it) and tasty. My only complaint was that I normally prefer this dish with broccoli, and it included only meat, which some people might see as a plus. The worst dish by far was the chicken and broccoli. This dish alone is why I gave it 3 stars. The meat was chewy, broccoli overcooked to the point where it was gray. The sauce itself tasted like no more that soy sauce thickened with cornstarch. The dish was tossed out after only a few bites. Overall, I’d try this restaurant again, but steer clear of the chicken and broccoli. I would have given it 2.5 stars if possible due to this dish. In a pinch, it’s not a bad place for a quick take-out spot.

This is a low end Chinese place, your typical 20 year old décor in a little strip mall. You would not go there for the ambiance. I was never impressed with the place until recently, when I found an item that dazzled me — the Generals Gao chicken. I have theory about General’s chicken. I think it’s kind of a Chinese inside joke. They take the worst, grizzliest part of the chicken(or whatever), and disguise it with the breaded and gooey covering and spicy sauce — laughing all the way to the bank. I never order it anymore because you can’t tell what kind of meat it is etc. New Canton has a Generals chicken that is exceptional. It is fresh, white meat chicken that is hardly breaded at all with a nice spicy/sweet sauce. The count is good also. I get it in the luncheon combo with pork fried rice and teriyaki steak for $ 6.50. The steak is kind of leathery so I substitute it with a double order of rice — which is pretty good. They use the same type chicken in the Sweet and sour chicken, if that is more to your liking. This is not a world beater of a restaurant, and it doesn’t claim to be. I go there just for this item. I would add that my boss, a multi-millionaire who can afford anyplace, always gets Chinese to go from New Canton.

Very cozy cocktail lounge with limited seating at the bar(one TV) and some high top tables nearby. Smoking was permitted here until the state ban. New Canton has a vast selection of liquor. There are also two dining areas with regular tables and chairs. I stopped here for lunch and was told I had to eat in the lounge(one guy running the floor and bartending to four people). I sat at a high top table with high wooden chairs. I wanted some hot tea, but I was told there was none brewed. No hot tea at a Chinese place??? I took some ice water and ordered a lunch combination: Pepper Steak with pork fried rice, and egg roll($ 5.50). The portion of food served was smaller than other Chinese restaurants in the area. The Pepper Steak was covered in bland brown gravy, the pork fried rice was saturated in soy sauce, and the egg roll(almost a spring roll) was decent. Overall, New Canton seems to be more focused on serving cocktails and alcoholic drinks than serving good Chinese food(limited menu compared to other local Chinese restaurants).
