Poor customer service. Also, sign said they have chains and they don’t. Next closest place is 13 miles.

I love it here. The owner Leesa is very charming and she can BAKE! Make sure to order the Breakfast Burrito from Marcos the chef. It is the best anywhere!

Very nice people, great view, easy parking. We had the vegi burgers, friends had the Bacon Burgers, both arrived cold, fries as well, and the burgers we burnt. What a bummer! We did see a few cold sandwiches come out and they looked pretty good, If you were going to eat there that’s what I’d have. We would not eat there again, but it’s the only place around. I’d give them a 2 star but they were very nice…

We frequent Hope Valley often, we visit the café for lunch this time. We both had the burger, both were amazing. We spent the first few minutes removing the special sauce that we asked to be left off, even though we heard our special order called out by the server to the Chef. I am giving the A-OK rating because we were very uncomfortable the entire time we were there, My husband and I both commented that we could never work for Leesa. Goodness it was obvious our server was new, she barked at him with a condescending tone for everything he did or wanted him to do. We found him to be very helpful and took pride in welcoming guests. This guy was everything she isn’t, welcoming, kind, attentive and caring. Honestly I thought he would walk out at any moment. She told him(with the customer present) that the customer she ordered her coffee the wrong way and there would be an additional cost for the coffee she actually wanted. Wow! I approached her when we were leaving complimenting how good the burger was, I kid you not she said, mmmhmmm and turned away. Upon checking out our server was finalizing our bill with an I-pad. As he was handing it to my husband to sign she tells him the customer takes care of the the rest; you can leave them and start doing something else… like clearing off these tables. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior, employees should not be treated that way ever! If she didn’t think he was doing the job right, take him aside to teach him. Don’t yell across the café telling him what he is doing wrong at every turn. I think she needs a long vacation or rethink if this is what she wants to do for a living. She may be able to bake well, but she needs to desperately work on her people skills.

Glad I stopped by here on my way home a few days ago. I’ve passed by so many times before but I really needed some coffee. What a great surprise! The first thing you notice when you walk in is a roaring fire, yes it was a bit chilly that morning on the Eastern side of the Sierras. There are several tables, all of which were full. There are also some picnic tables outside, there were some campers enjoying their morning coffee there. The hostess brought a fresh pot of coffee out to them. While waiting for my coffee to go I saw someone eating a great looking breakfast burrito. Needless to say I ended up having a seat and enjoying a burrito. It was great with rice, eggs, sausage and some tasty salsa. I didn’t see the menu but the person next to me said they have a regular breakfast menu. They also had some items for sale which you can see in the picture. There is camping just up the hill from the restaurant. So much fun to find these treasures when traveling through the mountains. They’re always worth taking a minute to stop and explore.

Hope Valley Café is a true gem! Leesa is an exceptional baker… just the thought of her pies or cookies makes my mouth water. Everything is baked fresh and the ingredients are top knotch… she does the classics so well and always has something innovative and delicious to indulge in. But there’s more… they make a great latte, have awesome local beers on tap, and serve a killer breakfast and lunch. You can also order freshly baked pies and other desserts for events and/or frozen cookie and scone dough to keep on hand in the freezer or when you are expecting a big group for a weekend or something(I have done this a lot and the quality is incredible). Also a great place to pick up a sandwich or burrito(and cookies!) on your way to a hike or skiing… I can not drive by and not stop in.

Spent the weekend in Hope Valley a few weeks ago. Once again the food and service did not disappoint. We bought a few pies to take to our friend camping in Pine Grove and they were blown away — «best pie we’ve ever had».

Hope Valley Café and Bakery is five miles after Woodfords rest stop(Death Ride), a hidden gem on i89. It has a homey feeling and friendly staff plus delicious food. Perfect place to park your car and go out for a ride with lots of passes around the area to climb. Comeback to have a warm meal after(make sure to let the restaurant know that you will be back to have lunch in their place). We had veggie burgers and togo a box of mixed berry pie. Yum! Highly recommended!

What a fantastic place this is. Leesa and her staff make everyone that enters feel like family. And the food… Off the hook! Today the blueberry strawberry bars were fresh out of the oven as I walked in. Incredible. Love this place. You will too.

There were two working there when we went(owner and cook?). They were both very friendly, gracious and down-to-earth. Over two visits we got some pie, a couple cookies and mochas. Everything was really scrumptious. I thought the cookies were especially good, while my wife, though liking them, didn’t thing they were exceptional. I roast my own coffee at home, so am pretty picky when it comes to coffee, but theirs was actually quite good. But what really made it a home run for me was the atmosphere. Very gracious workers, down-home atcosphere… we will definitaly be back… hopefully for a meal.

We had breakfast on our way over the hill for a wine tasting, and we enjoyed it. They had a special on Saturday that was incredible. As usual, my wife ordered it, it was big, and I got to finish it. I know what you’re thinking, «Are you complaining?» The answer is, No, and why would I, it tasted great, and I wish I had ordered it. It was a chorizo special, and just saying the word ‘chorizo’ is kind of exciting, and now, two days later, I’m feeling like one of Pavlov’s dogs. My breakfast, so you know, was really good also. I ordered the scramble with sausage, and the sausage tasted so good I could have lingered and eaten all day. I love pork converted into a sausage and cooked into eggs… On Saturday I did have to retreat to my car for my jacket, as it was cold inside and they did not have the wood stove fired up. It’s a great old classic stove, but it was not on. So, this might be a required stop on our wine trips, and Saturday got started right with our stop here.

We are sort of locals. being from Sutter Creek. We woke up on a Saturday morning wanting to go for a drive after the first snow dusting of the year. Stopped at the Hope Valley Café for a late breakfast. OMG. Couldnt help getting a huge fresh baked oatmeal chocolate cookie for an appetizer. Ordered the huevos rancheros to split. Wow it stuffed us both. Tasted great. Washed it down with an Icky IPA… Absolutely Freakin Awesome..

Stopped here about 3weeks ago. We wanted a snack and thought it was a general store, not much in groceries but saw they had sandwiches and baked goods. We got coffee and had a slice of peach apple bundt. Oh that was good, so stopped again on our return the next day. Damn, no bundt, had apple walnut bread, more yum! Next week another trip to Reno, and another stop for a snack, damn, no apple walnut, banana chocolate chip, ooh new favorite. Return trip, no banana this time coconut bread, ooh ooh ooh, my favorite. Also had a turkey sand with the chips which are homemade. Friendly service, good coffee, too!

You could make a movie about this place. Carlos our greeter, waiter and chef was extraordinary! Excellent customer care and made us feel welcomed. The owner was also there sharing her fabulously aromatic and gorgeous baked goods, pies, cookies, pastries. Our breakfast was so delicious and full of fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. I had to get one of the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for later and loved it. This place is a gem with all the art, local flavor products, and other interesting objects that you’ll have to find out for yourself. They also have free wifi which is great because I wasn’t getting any cell service in Hope Valley. This is a quaint and colorful place and a must stop, even if it for one of their beers on tap.

Super small menu. Slow service. Over priced. We were the only ones there at first. There was a child of someone working there that was playing in the ice machine when we got there. Later the child was asked to fill a water pitcher with ice. More playing in the ice machine and then I saw her pick up the ice scoop from the floor and scoop ice into the pitcher. Then return the scoop to the floor. Later she picked the scoop from the floor and hung it on the hook. Watched the guy get a full package of English Muffins out of the freezer and was only allowed ½ an English Muffin as toast. Also watched the guy get the hash browns from the freezer. The special was kinda warm on the middle; however, it was cold around the outsides. Maybe it was sitting around waiting on the frozen stuff to thaw out? This was on a summer Sunday morning.

We’ve come here several times as they are right at the top of a wonderful little campground that we take our RV to. The area around here is beautiful. The food here is delicious, from their breakfasts, to the burgers and especially their BLTs. They have a nice selection of microbrews and a cute little bar. Then there are the pies. The best description that I could come up with is: THEPIESARE ****ing AWESOME! Home made apple pie? hell yes! Homemade strawberry apricot pie? yeah baby! I love their baked goods here. Service is also very friendly and nice. If you’re driving on 88 and don’t stop here for some pie, beer, breakfast or lunch you are CRAZY!

Lisa is amazing! Her pies, cookies, breakfast burritos are always fresh and tasty. We’ve been coming here for 3 years and it’s a must-stop every time we’re in the Sierras. Lisa’s warm company and cozy café are the perfect fit for anyone wanting to enjoy Hope Valley from a local’s perspective. DId I mention the beer? Craft beer, on tap — nothings beats a beer, while drying your shoes and reading a book in front of the fire after a long day of x-country skiing.

Hubs and I stopped in for a quick breakfast before heading back to Sacramento. We ordered breakfast(just OK– filled our tummies) and sat chatting in the relaxed atmosphere. As we talked, person after person came up to the counter and ordered the fresh from the oven scones. Couldn’t help myself– I had to try one! Apricot coconut scones– sweet and light with just the right amount of crunch. Super delish. As we sat exclaiming over how good the scone was the owner swung by our table and asked my husband if he want some spicy salsa for his egg scramble. Maybe because he is obviously of hispanic descent? She brought him a little bowl of the BESTSALSA on the planet. Seriously, we asked if she would sell us some to take home. She said they are not selling it in bulk, yet. Ask for the salsa– you will not regret it. The next morning my husband looked at me and said, «The scones, that salsa. Wow.»
