Snappy Dogs

Low 70s in early November! Global warming must be real. My friend and I decided to go bbq today at the park, but no charcoal was to be found at the stores we went to. This was not going to stop us from having a wonderful scenic picnic, so we decided to stop at Snappy Dogs to grab some hot dogs to go. We ordered the «Great Dane» which is a ½ lb hot dog and the beef hot sausage, both with chili and cheese. These were pretty good! It was a bit pricey considering they are just store bought hotdogs, but still worth it, if you are lazy and hungry and want something to grab and go like me!
I love that the two women working there grilled them to order and there were a variety of condiments to chose from (sauerkraut, red onion relish, jalapeño, spicy coleslaw, regular coleslaw, etc) that were on the house. The hot dog stand is on the side of the road and there is plenty of parking in the parking lot. Surprisingly there’s also a nice little area to sit and enjoy your hot dogs, but if you are like me and want something more scenic, grab you hot dogs and head 3 miles to Hopkington State Park to eat along the lake.
We came around noon and there were only a few people there but within 10 minutes it got packed, so do plan accordingly. This place is popular with the locals!

Besides the nicest two women in the entire world, who remember your name every single time you come in, and excited to see you and greet you, their food is just spectacular. The buns are perfect, soft and have that nice buttered top.

Great dogs, great friendly people! Snappy Dogs is an institution. Don’t miss it! The outdoor atmosphere is casual, relaxed and happy. Occasional a local musician plays live music.

Just had the BLT dog special. It was beyond delicious! Fried green tomatoes, crispy bacon, lettuce, spiced mayo and of course, the signature snappy dog. This place never disappoints! Love it!

Delightful ladies running this operation. Expected typical hotdog, then I saw the menu. I ordered the «Great Dane» ½ pound dog. Holy smokes it was HUGE! Grilled while I added my condiments. Great tasting grilled dog, nice hogi bun, good selection of condiments. Nice outside shady area to eat behind the stand. Next time I will bring my yellow lab to eat with me!
Without a doubt, I will return for perhaps a smaller dog next time (Great Dane STUFFED me!)

A training class for my job sent me to the Hopkinton area today and I was lucky enough to discover this hidden gem while out on my lunch break. I love everything about this place and give it five stars for its unique concept, friendliness, and simple yet delicious menu.
The women behind the counter of this adorable food stand are super friendly and welcoming. The menu is small and offers a variety of hot dogs or sausages which can be customized to your taste by adding one of their fresh, homemade toppings. Once your order is placed you are handed a bun and the hot dog of your choice is placed on the grill to be cooked as you wait. This is a great opportunity to load up that bun with your choice of relishes. I wish I was more of a relish fan, but I prefer just plain old mustard with the chicken sausage I ordered today. They offer zucchini and cranberry relishes that were highly recommended by other people in line at the stand. Chips, dessert, and beverages are available as well to make your meal complete.
Take your hot dogs to go or enjoy a seat on one of the picnic tables out back. There is nothing better than an inexpensive yet satisfying and delicious lunch right off the grill. It was like finding a backyard barbecue on my lunch break. Hopefully i find myself in the area real soon for a return visit.

I love this little place. It may sound silly, but finding things like this – fun, unexpected, charming, with food that could not be better – makes life worth living.
The women who run it are creative and cool, and the dogs are just great, Snappy indeed. (I had to smile at a review below that said «you’d be better off at a NYC street stand” – years ago, those hot dogs set the standard for snappy, but now they’re generic mush.)
