A few years ago I was at a charity event at Caroline Collective where I noticed a beautiful spread of delicious cupcakes and cake pops. I later found out that this was the work of three sisters who had recently started a business venture, A Sweet Intent, making delicious confections from recipes that had been in their family for years. Not only did the cupcakes and cake pops look good, but they tasted delicious and were obviously made from high quality ingredients. Not long after that, I contacted A Sweet Intent for a quote for cake pops for a work function. The price was very reasonable and I was already sold on the quality of their sweets. They arrived on time, as promised, and set up a beautiful dessert table for the event. The cake pops were very well-received so we’ve been using them for that annual event each year since, and also for a few other work events. I think at this point if we tried to go with someone else, there would be many complaints. When it came time to plan my wedding, there was no doubt which vendor I would trust to make the perfect wedding cake. I worked with Amisha, their Creative Director, who was quick to respond with a quote via email and also schedule a tasting. She offered quite a variety of cake and frosting flavor combos for us to try during the tasting, explaining how everything was prepared as we stuffed our faces with delicious cake. Seriously, did anyone ever tell you how fun wedding cake tasting is? It’s one of the best things about planning your own wedding, trust. We came to a decision on flavor combos for the cake after the tasting and I had already explained how I wanted my cake to look — simple white fondant, 3 tiers, and a little light blue(my wedding color) trim around each tier. I was wanting to keep it simple since I wanted to focus on the custom cake topper I had ordered from Etsy. A month or so before the wedding, Amisha suggested the possibility of changing the cake design. She told me I could keep it as I already requested, of course, but that she had an idea for something more she could do. She explained it in great detail and even sent some photos for me to get an idea of what she was thinking. The new design was still within my budget and it wasn’t too over the top so I went with her suggestion. I’m so glad I did because it was beautiful!(See Photos) Not only was the cake beautiful but it was delicious, especially for being a fondant cake. I know people will turn their nose at fondant cakes because they notoriously look better than they taste, but A Sweet Intent doesn’t use the typical ingredients so their fondant was actually really good. Since my husband loves their cake pops so much, we opted to have them as the groom’s cake, which was also a big hit. I was very pleased with the high level of customer service they provided. They not only showed up on time to deliver the cake on the day of the wedding, but they took into consideration what my venue decorator had done on the guest dining tables and added some similar details on the dessert table. They even provided some pastry boxes for us to box up the cake at the end of the night to take home. If you’re planning a wedding or any special event in Houston, give them a call!
