Bay Area Turning Point Resale Shop

I was in this shop today and was appalled at the employees behavior towards a young girl.
The employee, Rita, was extremely rude to this young lady. The girl had on a fur vest that she was walking around in. She was with her mother and they obviously were not poor, just rummaging through some vintage clothing really, which the young lady seemed to like. As she walked around, Rita approached her and curtly informed her «That vest looks lovely on you, but you cannot walk out of here without paying for it». OMG! First of all, the girl and her mother were in the back of the store, nowhere close to an exit and were still browsing. Secondly, why would she even THINK the girl was going to walk out without paying? Perhaps she should have waited until the pair made their way closer to the front of the store before opening her rude mouth. The mother was clearly offended and told Rita she did not appreciate the assumption nor the remark.
Then, as I was checking out, she made another rude comment. I was buying furniture for an 18 year old who was kicked out of her home and had just rented an apartment and had no furniture. I explained that to the other lady (she was sweet) as I tried to negotiate a price on some end tables. Rita (who wasn’t even a part of the conversation) piped up saying «Well, if she needs someones help it doesn’t matter what you get her». I informed Miss Rudeness that when I help people, I help them to the best of my ability, instead of just buying them the worst crap I can find. Asking for help is hard enough and when someone buys you old, tattered, torn stuff even though appreciative I’m sure, it’s probably embarrassing to accept graciously.
Rita needs to learn to keep her mouth shut. If she’s going to be dealing with the general public and those in need, perhaps she should change her view on what is acceptable to say and what is not. A little empathy goes a long way. If Rita is there next time that I am looking to help someone in need, I will walk right out. UNACCEPTABLE.

This shop has a little of this and that for everyone’s taste. The donations and funds support this incredible charity. I’ve found more here than at a goodwill store.
