This little burger shack has the charm and appeal of a little burger stand on some rural road out in the middle of some country town, except that it’s just out on the outskirts of downtown. I went there for the Chicken Sandwich(keep your remarks to yourself, homie!). It’s just under 10 minutes from Minute Maid Park, so I was definitely down for trying a new place. I almost passed it up, because I was expecting a parking lot out in front of a building that had tables, chairs… all in an air conditioned space. This is a walk up burger stand! That’s what I get for skimming though Unilocal Reviews. Ay! I ordered my sandwich, fries, and a drink and waited a little. They announced my number over the loud speaker and I grabbed my little while paper bag of goods. They have a host of hot sauces for your use, right next to the window, but no Tobasco Sauce(sad face here). I got one pf those little, «itty-bitty,» plastic salsa containers and put some Louisiana Hot Sauce in it. I was going to drive back to the office, but the lid for the«itty-bitty,» plastic salsa container didn’t fit, so I just found a bench in the shaded porch area and chowed down right there. The Fried Chicken Sandwich is three chicken tenders on a hamburger bun. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great, it was just a nicely fried chicken sandwich. I’ll be back to try the hamburgers. The folks who ordered burgers looked at me as if I was wearing a Texas Rangers jersey.

Why go anywhere else?! The Golden Arches could take a lesson from this place. The breakfast sandwich will knock you down.

Awesome burgers and breakfast tacos. They can do custom orders and are very fast. Call ahead for your order if you don’t have time to wait, there’s a separate window for phone orders.

How are the ratings this high for this place? 4.5 stars? Give me a break. The burgers are pretty good but not 4.5 star good. They are comparable to Fudruckers of something. I came here because of the high Unilocal reviews and left thinking that it was overrated. I will say that there’s nothing else that’s good in the area. Maybe that’s why this place is rated so highly.

To all my vegetarians out there… looking for the best veggie burger(black bean pattie) champ burger is the one to go. The whole burger itself is juicy and flavorful. I’ve tried other black bean patties and they were dry and stale, I highly recommend this burger joint. — Yalixia Abarca

A 1⁄3 pound burger? I was expecting a thick juicy homemade style burger. Burger was bland. I was kind of disappointed. So much hype with this place.

Burgers! Meaty tasty burgers! This place is awesome. Went for my lunch break with a coworker and man were they fast with taking our meal and delivery. The taste of the meat was to die for. French fries were great, oh !, and the onion rings man where those good. Lol okay on a serious note. This mom and pops restaurant is great for a quick reasonable price lunch. Service was prompt and friendly, outdoor seating was clean spacious. I got a bacon cheeseburger and will highly recommend it to any one else. Do wish they where opened in the weekend.

Burger is good I just didn’t like that the bun was soggy. 12 dollars for a double meat meal was a little high in my option. Good customer service and cool outdoor patio

If I could give it negative 5 stars I would. How many times can you screw up a burger. Then when a group orders you forget half the order. And when I go back to argue that you forgot a few things you have the balls to ask me dumb ass questions. Never ever will I order from this crappy establishment. I go to sparkles and they never ever mess up an order.

This is a drive up window in a non descript part of now over hyped east end revitalized. Yet, the businesses and warehouse employees around here have been coming for lunch for years. Small outdoor seating area makes it easy to sit down and eat if you are hungry. Burgers and Fries are delicious.

Great, no nonsense burger. Decent sized patty(1⁄3 pound of ground chuck), fresh tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, mayo and mustard on the basic cheese burger. The bun was fluffy and solid. This is not a greasy, run down your arm burger. It’s got great flavor though. Lunch special with burger, fries and a drink about $ 8. Good price. I subbed the o-rings for the fries. Wow! They were terrific! Not greasy, super crispy. Yummy. You can get bacon, double meat, jalapeño, chili, Swiss cheese and even ham as an add on to your regular ol’ burger. We went with the basic on our first visit. They are open for breakfast at 7am(breakfast tacos and egg sammies) and close before dinner time. So this is a lunch place. Oh and they are closed Sat and Sun. Seems like everyone who works in the East End was there to pick up their call in order. But service went fast and we ordered and got our bag of burgers in less than 10 minutes. Chicken sammies, hot dogs, basic salads and shakes too. Parking all on the street. Nice patio to eat your grub if you don’t take it with you. It’s a bit of a drive for me from West Houston. But if I lived here I would eat here often. And it looks like most people who work in the area eat here for lunch a lot. What a terrific Houston food institution.

A hole in the wall burger joint that is pretty great. The staff is friendly and they get your food out on time. No long lines or a wait at all. The burgers are pretty big too! Great price and definitely worth going to especially if in the area. There is only outdoor seating too, so it isn’t a normal sit down restaurant. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and will definitely come back.

I have circled this place many times and it has been on my list of places to try. Every time I have come by it has been incredibly busy and parking is hard to find so I just drive away and say next time. Most places would offer valet but Champ Burger is in a league of its own. I devised a plan to ensure that I would snag a spot, I didn’t take my lunch at 12 like most, no sir! I waited until 2pm! By this time I was so hungry that I could not wait to get my hands on this juicy burger. It is in an interesting location and just the walk from my car to the place I found myself greeting a cholo and some hipsters! All with one mission in mind, the champ burger. I walked up to the counter and ordered the champ burger, onion rings and a drink. The gentleman taking my order was very polite, fast, and efficient. My order was out within 10 min. This was a to go order so I immediately began eating the fries. I had to keep myself busy and still had about 2 min. to make it back to my destination. What I really love about the onion rings was the batter and the fact that they were small enough for me to pop the whole thing into my mouth. I did not want to be driving and battling with an onion ring that falls apart as soon as you bite into it. These were some of the best onion rings I have tasted! The burger itself was a great burger, but still not good enough to knock down my #1 burger that is housed in Stafford, TX! This burger had all the right trimmings. The meat was thick and juicy and overall good. It is definitely a great choice but I just… for me its not the best I have had!

We are regulars here as we live in the neighborhood. The burgers are the best I have had anywhere! Try the Alpine or the California with your favorite toppings. Fries are fresh, hot and crispy too. Try your fried dipped with an assortment of mayos(chipotle or wasabi are great). There are chicken, turkey and veggie options as well. Now they offer homemade ice cream as well. The burgers are SO big we sometime go for the kiddie burger. If you are feeling peckish the salads are surprisingly fresh and tasty for a burger place. Staff are friendly and know our names –given we are here every week this is not a surprise. As others have said you do have to wait as the burgers are big, fresh and grilled before your eyes. There is sometimes a wait especially in the winter when the patio is closed. The only down side is I am not a beer/cider drinker and the wine selection is, well, sad.

Thank you Unilocal for helping me find Champ Burger. I saw that it has been around for longer than I have and I only found this place while waiting during jury duty. Shame on me! Great, sloppy burgers, nice fresh fries and yummy strawberry shake. Nice, little outdoor seating area and pleasant, fast service. I will definitely back! Highly recommended.

Had my first visit here yesterday. I got a bacon and cheese Champ burger with fries and a Hershey’s chocolate shake for $ 10 and some change. The burger was massive and delicious. If i hadn’t have been ravenous i could have saved half of it for dinner. The bacon was actual thick cut bacon that I would love to eat for breakfast and there was plenty of it on the burger. The fries were fresh and lightly salted. There was extra salt in my bag which is very thoughtful and convenient. The Hershey’s chocolate shake was divine! It tasted like it’s namesake and was a godsend on a hot Houston summer day. Nothing disappointed. At 1:45pm and even with a line the wait for my food was not a long one. The people behind the window were friendly and informative. I will definitely be going back and I recommend this place to anyone looking for a damn good burger on the cheap.

First outing to the«Champ Burger» and it is not a place you would just be driving by(at least in my life) and stop by– so we ventured to this local about 1130 and there was no huge line and server was friendly and fast– we grabbed an shaded spot in the outdoor seating(that is the only seating) and dove right in. I had the Champ cheeseburger and fries– toasted bun, big hot burger, fresh lettuce, tomato, pickles and with the right amount of mustard and mayo(I asked for light on both) so it was an awesome just burger(like many have stated not gourmet not outstanding slap your mama– just a good burger) fries were good as well so decent place for a quick, relatively inexpensive bite to eat.(Street parking and if it rains you want to be under the covered seating… just sayin!)

They have the best burgers!!! Orange sherbet shake is a must try. Tastes like orange dreamsicle. I get a plain jane cheeseburger with pickles and mustard. These burgers are large enough for two people. So is the order of fries. You can call in your order to pick up or eat it there. Cash or credit. Their website has a menu, the hours and phone number. No public restrooms. So, go with an empty bladder. Outdoors only. Worth the visit. My husband has been going there for nearly 35 years! Go!!!

I was near downtown and passed this place and all of a sudden had a taste for a burger. You walk up 2 the windows, order from a menu and wait for your food. You don’t pay until the food is bagged and ready. I ordered the champ burger with swiss cheese and an order of fries. This has got to be one of the best tasting burgers I’ve had in a long time! Fully seasoned, juicy and was a nice portion. The fries on the other hand were hot and fresh but bland in flavor. There’s a place to sit and eat outside but it was a bit chilly out. They seemed to have a lot of traffic coming through so they must be doing something right. I will definitely be returning!
