I happened in here, looking for some Asian food while in the area. I think the people there were lovely and the food was tasty & good. Only one complaint, the egg rolls were not my favorite. They were the tight little ones, mostly cabbage. But the orange beef was quite good as was the soup and I would go again.

Wanted to order 2 lunch specials with egg rolls. Lady said I was .27 cents short. She told me I had to order another thing to get delivery. That’s bad customer service.

It his restaurant is near my office. I’ve tried other Asian restaurants in the area and I haven’t been satisfied. This place, however, provides a healthy portion of meat and rice. I tried the General Tso’s chicken and chicken fried rice. Great flavor on both the chicken and the rice. I plan to return.

My co-workers and I frequently order lunch from Chef Ding because their lunch prices are good and delivery is quite fast. I’ve picked up my food a few times and every time I’ve stopped by, maybe only 2 or 3 tables are occupied. So I’m not really sure how popular this place is. As far as delivery goes, this place is a-okay. Now, the food. I give 3 stars mainly because of the only ONE dish that I find good here and because of the nice delivery service. The only thing I’ve ever gotten here is the Salted Pepper Crispy Chicken with Jalapeño off the lunch menu. Lunch comes with either a choice of fried/steamed rice, 2 egg rolls, and either wonton/hot and sour/egg drop soup. The chicken is extremely savory! The wonton soup, which is the only soup I’ve gotten, is yummy and flavorful, and the egg rolls are crispy. It never fails every time and that is my go to dish. Unfortunately, that’s the only thing that seems to be really good there. I’ve also tried their Chicken with Garlic Sauce, and the sauce it’s cooked in was NOT garlic. It was red and tasted borderline like sweet and sour sauce. They also put way too much celery on it and barely any chicken. Another time, I tried the Shrimp Lo Mein. It was a tad bland and the shrimp was small. The fried rice that you can get with the lunch special is not your typical fried rice. No egg or vegetables. Literally just white rice that they must’ve cooked in some soy sauce and that’s it. Not that appealing at all. I think with this place, it’s a hit or miss. My co-worker gets the Pepper Steak and she said it’s good. She’s also tried the Lemon Chicken but they put the sauce in a separate container so really we don’t know how the lemon sauce tastes like. I get the Crispy Chicken with Jalapeños and it’s amazing… but the rest is just meh. Really gotta know what to pick here. At the end of the day, I just come for the Salted Crispy Pepper Chicken with Jalapeños. I don’t think I’ll come here to try anything else.

My dish was a combination of chicken, beef and shrimp(Triple Delight)… Hm, how can I sum this all up simple chinese eating nothing spec at all. Taste: Flavorful Portion: Small(displeased) 4 shrimps total; onions pretty much was about seventy percent of the meal and to top it off definitely did not fill me up. Price:($ 12.50) Dessert(s): Cheesecake-mediocre($ 3.50) Chocolate cake-moist-yet mediocre($ 3.50) Ultimately convenient because it’s so god darn close to home but, def will not return. No, no, no. I have eaten at this place for 6 years and have always enjoyed the food here. However, my visit today, March 18, 2015 has changed all of that. I normally do not right bad reviews, but the following is well deserved. So I go to have lunch today at one of my favorite Chinese Restaurants. I have never had a bad meal at Chef Ding in the Memorial area of Houston, TX. The Manager asks me what I will have to drink and I tell him unsweetened Ice Tea with Lemon. I begin to look at the menu and begin to choose. 2 minutes later, the waiter comes back to bring me my ice tea. I look over my right shoulder and i see him walking toward me as he is bringing my tea and i see him picking and digging his nose with his left hand and he hands me my ice tea with the same hand. Freaking Nasty. I call the manager over and explain to him how utterly gross and nasty that was. He laughs nervously and apologizes. I immediately lost my appetite and i walked off. Never to return to a place i patronized for years. I figured that if they are going to pick their nose in front of you as they serve you your drinks, what are they doing to your plate of food in the kitchen out of sight? I was thoroughly disgusted and repulsed. I immediately got up and left and I will vow NEVER to return to this place and i want the Houston community to know this.

If you have a large group, want to eat good Chinese food at an affordable price, this is one of my favorite places. Of course it depends on how you order, but if you have more than 5 people, you can enjoy 5 different dishes(yes, family style) and keep it at about $ 10/person. The catch is, they don’t serve alcohol(at least beer). So, if you want alcohol, you’ll have to stop by the Kroger next door and bring it in or you can get take out. As other people have commented, I have never seen this place occupied by more than 2 other groups so I am suspecting this is normal. You may feel a bit uneasy, but the food quality is much higher than some of the other places I have tried.

The ribs are huge and flavorful, the free egg rolls are so good and amazing. I ordered the lunch/dinner special of General Tso’s Chicken and it is amazingly good. I’m def a happy camper!

I order from this restaurant every month or so, as I don’t order take-out/delivery often. It’s in a small shopping center anchored by a Kroger’s and a Radio Shack, and it’s completely nondescript. Don’t be fooled though, as it looks like a traditional Chinese restaurant on the inside, and the food is better than that offered by several of the other Chinese restaurants nearby on Memorial. I have yet to go in and see more than one table of people eating there, so I would assume most of their business is take out and delivery. The menu is what you would typically expect — with a few surprises like lamb and filet mignon. They have coupons available on the menu and online that are decent and actually useful. Delivery is fast, and I usually get my order before the provided time estimate. The portion sizes vary. They don’t use the typical Chinese food containers with some dishes. Shrimp fried rice is delivered in a standard to-go box. While it’s filled to the brim, and decent sized shrimp are used, there frankly isn’t enough shrimp in the dish and it’s too salty. The shrimp egg foo young is plenty(3 large pancakes), and while the gravy is actually more of a sauce, it’s delicious. Dishes like kung pao and general tso’s chicken are good, but nothing special. The shrimp with garlic sauce was very good. All in all, if you are looking for some good, quick take-out or delivery, Chef Ding should be high on your list. It’s my go-to for quick, fresh, Chinese food.

I’ve ordered twice for delivery using their website and have been impressed by the food, ease of ordering and prompt service. Last night was shrimp night for us — jumbo shrimp fried rice, shrimp with lobster sauce and kung pao shrimp. Everything was great… best fried rice on this side of town. Lobster sauce had really good flavor and kung pao nice and spicy. Ding is now our favorite for good, quick Chinese delivery.

My husband and I got take-out which was delivered hot and fresh. We ordered pan-fried pork dumplings, egg drop soup, wonton soup, and the salted pepper crispy chicken with jalapeño. The dumplings and soups were decent, basic appetizers. The crispy chicken was really good — it’s a crispy salt/pepper chicken which is tossed with fresh jalapeños, green and white onions and stir fried. We also got free cheese puffs with our order because it was over 15 dollars(we paid like 20.50 total) Overall a great takeout place for lazy sunday dinners :)

I’m new to the area and this place is really close by. We had ordered delivery several times now and the whole family enjoys it. There’s not much difference in portion size between lunch and dinner options. The plates we order come with choice of rice, spring rolls, and soup. It’s a lot of food for lunch and even dinner you’ll have leftovers. Delivery is fast, a little pricey, but I love the food here. My favorite is the salted crispy chicken which comes served with fresh jalapeños. It’s crunchy, spicy, and super tasty. We totally enjoy this little hole in the wall.

Pretty solid option for lunch in the area. I work off of Dairy Ashford near I-10 and I was looking for a cheap lunch option out of the ordinary(not Subway, Quiznos, KFC, etc.). In my search for a new lunch option, i found a nice little hole in the wall Chinese restaurant next to the Kroger on Memorial. It’s a no frills little Chinese joint that serves up your typical Chinese American cuisine. According to the menu, acclaimed«Iron Chef Ding» was formerly the chef at Dong Ting downtown at Louisiana and Smith. They have a decent little lunch special menu where most of the dishes fall comfortably in the $ 6 – 7 range and come with soup, egg roll, and entrée. I had the very familiar sweet n sour pork dish with steamed rice and hot n sour soup. Overall I came away with a satisfied tummy and went back to work. Bottom Line — While it’s not someplace that I would go out of my way to eat at… I wouldn’t mind coming back for another meal.
