Fiesta Mart, Inc

This morning on my way to work, I stopped at the Fiesta Mart on the corner of Kirby and S. Main to visit the courtesy booth to pay a bill. I searched for the store hours by entering "Fiesta mart Kirby courtesy booth hours" and the results indicate the store hours are 7 am - 11 PM. I don't drive so I was in an Uber this morning and wasted money on a stop only to find out that the courtesy booth wasn't open. No one in the store could tell me what time they open, the correct phone number to speak with someone before I wasted my money and time stopping there. About 5 minutes ago I tried calling the store and spoke with the manager this time. The manager gave me 2 wrong numbers to reach the courtesy booth. This is unacceptable, I cannot comprehend why the store manager doesn't know how to contact departments with HIS STORE. To be a manager means that you should be fully aware and on top of everyone and everything in YOUR STORE. God forbid if there was an emergency that manager would completely FAIL his/her staff. This is ridiculous and I cannot believe this person doesn't know who or whats going on in his store. PATHETIC!

I live in the Med Center, there are two other grocery stores closer than Fiesta, and there is a posh one which is about the same distance from my residence, as Fiesta.
However, I come here more frequently (and lately only here), than to the other stores altogether.
Why? The selection of veggies and fruits, and mainly the prices, are great for me. They sell the cheapest pomegranates, and these pommes are larger than anywhere else. People are very nice, they always smile at the stand where I get my bakeries from. The best bolillos) if you like crispy ones). Large selection of international goods: where else you will get South African Nando’s chilli sauce, japanese ice cream, strawberry mochi (almost for half price like other expensive groceries sell for), German Milka, Indian hot mix, jasmin rice, Mexican coca-​cola (0.5 liter), lychee, rambutan, shrimp of large size for great price, liver sausage for great price, just a few to mention. Oh, and don’t forget the postcards! My friends around the world love to get postcards with Houston landmarks… Fiesta sells it, and for a reasonable price, you don’t have to drive to Galveston to buy some. Hm, and almost completely forgot it: EUROPEAN CHOCOLATES before X-​mas!!! Come early, because they will be gone fast! I noticed them at the end of October, and it keeps bringing me back over and over again… I don’t dare to buy a bunch of them, because then I eat it immediately. So, I rather come 3 – 4 times a week, and pick up each time a different (mainly German) chocolate. They also used to have small Turkish biscuits, I don’t see it anymore though. Lots of choices of healthy snacks (might not be as many as at other stores, but it still works for me). Fiesta also has Western Union inside, which was a great help, when some weeks ago I urgently had to send some money to a friend of mine.
And finally, last, but not at least, I am shopping at Fiesta over 10 years now, and Irina who is now the night manager is a true gem. I know her for a few years, and can tell that she is always professional and kind to the shoppers, and colleagues, and never failed to remember me what special is going on (e.g. European chocolates arrive), and she also told me at least and my two last visits, that on Thanksgiving Thursday, Fiesta will be open. Honesty, I have never heard about a grocery store that is open on Thursday, but that is a big plus. Today I am off from work, finish the lunch, and finally I can go and shop without any rush. Thank you Fiesta for making the store available on Thanksgiving Thursday, and thank you, Irina for letting us know about it.
There are many more to add, I guess I will keep coming back and update as I discover anything new.

I normally like Fiesta stores. This one is a more recent Fiesta that I have been to before. People were pleasant, and I really liked the international community being in the aisles. However, it definitely needed some cleaning. The Lady advised the staff of broken bottles on the floor and trash in some of the aisles. There were some really neat food items available, but when we went for the flower tortillas we were told that there were no fresh ones at all and even the Fiesta ones come frozen now. I thought they were joking and picked up a package of Fiesta that had just been put out and yep, quite cold but no longer frozen. Sorry folks, but I used to get much better in the past. Go backwards a bit and return to before. Easy to fix.

Great prices! Cheaper than the Target across the street — and, in my opinion, their produce is much better than Target’s!
This Fiesta Mart has an incredible selection of ethnic foods — everything from produce to dairy products to processed goods! I needed a can of unripe jackfruit for a recipe — and didn’t have to venture outside the 610 loop — this store had it!
The store isn’t much to look at — and it’s not going to have your upscale, Whole Foods-​y items, but it’s a great everyday store! Has everything you need day-​to-​day at great prices!

This location is great, great variety of spices, food groups, as a chef this place has what you need to make just about anything. Everyone very helpful. You need stuff get here.

Pretty good selection of groceries. Had whey protein bars! Lots of Middle East students in here also just a fun fact lol. I love the diverse communities

Plenty of parking, there are always plenty of cashiers available, and great prices on produce.
I stopped by to purchase colossal shrimp only to see a sign that states colossal, but the shrimp were actually jumbo. As a seafood fanatic, I knew better. Since when colossal shrimp are $ 11 a pound? Seafood department is only good when a sale is advertised.

Huge supermarket with Mexican goods available. Like a Mexican HEB, although I think they have HEB in Mexico too. Came here for snacks, so I went for some yogurt pretzels as I’d been craving them. They tasted terrible, as if they were several months past their prime. This causes concerns about the rest of their food. AVOID.

I like shopping here and have been doing so, off and on, for years. Their produce are always stocked and plentiful when I shop there, I love their butter croissants (they have the best croissants, HEB’s is 2^nd place for croissants) and if I want to get my «meat alternatives”/vegetarian foods, this is the store that has it. And there’s a different variety of beer and wine, but if I want to buy my «spirits», they have a liquor store, next to their building. Also I like their international sections and I don’t have to drive to «Chinatown» or «The Mahatma Ghandi District» (near Sharpstown) to find certain foods.

This place is good. the only reason i went to this place to find indian vegetable but I could not find fresh and bought some okra with OK quality. but this place is very nice.
Lemons are 5 for $ 1 which is most cheap in Houston :) Indian stuffs are relatively expensive.

So they have boiled crawfish. Well they definitely are spicy. They use zataran’s, slap ya mamma and lemon pepper and garlic. Kind of like the whole Shabang but the crawfish are really small. But for 3.99/ pound in Houston you can’t complain. Beware of long lines!

I hardly ever check in when I go to Fiesta. I’m new to this checking in on Unilocal.Now I’m obsessed with checking in everywhere I go.
I visit this store all the time. The produce here is always fresh and have GREAT prices. My trainer got me on this 5 meals a day diet, (I cheat all the time just look at my check ins) and a lot of veggies are involved. especially juicing. So a lot of fruits and veggies are needed. And when buying large quantities, the prices here are amazing.
I’m trying to do this low carb thing so I don’t eat a lot of breads but they do have fresh breads and desserts. Now if I compare their fresh bread and dessert department to Kroger of course Kroger would win. But they do have a decent selection of breads and desserts at Fiesta.
The fresh seafood department here is awesome. The guys are always friendly and they have a large selection at great prices. When I say large I mean HUGE selection. Frozen and fresh.
The meats are cool. But not the best. I’ve gone here and they didn’t have any more ground beef. That was weird.
As far as different kind of cheeses and gourmet food they’re kind of lacking, but I’m guessing thats not their market.
Okay so in the front of the store near the registers there’s a boost mobile store and and this accessory place, I think a place to get auto insurance and a tax place during tax season.
At the courtesy booth you can do normal things like pay bills, there’s also a ticket master and other things…
Over ALL its a cool grocery store… They’re also starting to make sushi. I haven’t tried it but Its stuff like california rolls and spring rolls and things like that. I’m going up there again tomorrow. I’ll take some photos and post them.

I look at these other reviews and think I must have been seriously spoiled by other grocery stores I’ve made my «go-​to.» Or I just happened to be lucky that those grocery stores were great and I just happened to be close to where I lived.
This store has become the exception to my grocery experiences.
Produce, great.
International food selection, solid.
But,
Meat, bad.
Prices, I’ve seen better.
Selection, not the best.
This store is 3 minutes from my apartment, but I’m going to happily travel an extra 15 to get to the HEB off Buffalo Speedway. That should pretty much sum up my feelings about Fiesta.

This is the best supermarket I’ve ever SEEN!!! I grew up New York City, and I just moved here 2 weeks ago, and coming from NYC I was certain that the best of the best was in New York. AND I WAS WRONG!!! Oh so wrong. No supermarket in New York has ANYTHING on this amazing super store. Seriously I’ve never seen anything like it. First of all its humongous. 2ndly it sparkling clean!!! Not s spill, not a crumb, not a wrinkle anywhere in the store. No half opened, or ripped packages, just a sparkling clean store. It has every product u could ever dream up too. It even has coffee makers, plates, silverware, Tupperware, CLOTHES, hates, socks, beauty products, a florist section, a jewelry section, a money order/​western union section, a pizzaria, Chinese food counter, Mexican food counter, bakery, etc etc ALL INSIDE THE SUPERMARKET.
BUT I saved the best for last: the prices are crazy low. I’m coming from New York City were the prices are insanely high so I don’t know if its just this store or all over texas, but I got a roll of paper towels for 63 cents. I’ve seriously never even seen that before. The lowest prices for a roll in New York is $ 1.08. Also, there are hardly any lines, and there are always lots of cashiers, and the store opens early, and closes at midnight.

I’ve gotten bad meat here. I just stop in for ice cream n veggies now. they used to have las brisas ice cream but now they don’t carry that either. they do have a decent international section and Madiera wine for a dollar or more cheaper than the average store.

Overall horrible.
They sell reject fruits. Mostly damaged, cut, bruised, too small, discolored, almost rotten, oddly shaped produce.
Vegetables are mostly OK.
Run down store. Even the checkout conveyor belts are falling apart (checkout #4).
They tout Fiesta Mart as affordable. Yet, the quality is so low, the prices seem overblown for the horrible produce they sell.
Papayas, avocados, bananas, plantains, mangos, lemons are consistently good.
Oranges and all other citrus are consistently very small, soft and mushy (almost gone bad). Yellow and red onions are most of the time rotten and infested with fruit flies.
The personnel are rude and unhelpful.

I’ve seen cream cheese here in a cute glass jar with Arabic script on the lid and «Made in Denmark» printed to the side of the nutrition label. This is a glorious place to shop for your gastronomical desires.
Actually, it’s one of those kind of dimly/​depressingly lit standard Mexican grocery marts. Though I’m sentimental about those; pricing is generally competitive for produce and the selection of other foods is reasonably diverse. My friend allergic to wheat and corn can find a good variety of alternative flours she can use to bake brownies that won’t threaten her life.
Finding Ritter Sport here has been a happy surprise worthy of celebration (i.e. buying the entire inventory and breaking the bank), especially since Fiesta carries more obscure flavors like Alpine Milk Chocolate.
I tried finding vampire flippers here to no avail, but I wasn’t really expecting them here. It was more or less an act of desperation after Target ran out a few days before Halloween. Expected.
Since I am lazy and don’t want to read every sign hanging on every aisle, I sometimes ask staffers where certain items are located to no avail, mostly due to language barriers. Most of the time, they are eager to help.

So I want to be able to prance around in a bikini whenever I please.
Unfortunately that means drastic measures like giving away all of my soda, throwing out my stockpiles of Easter candy and yes… cooking more and eating out less. I bet that sounds a lot less sexy now. Fiesta is helping that endeavor immeasurably though. I’ve loved Fiesta ever since I moved here. Amidst all the ruckus about Trader Joe’s, it’s time for me to bring Fiesta back to the Unilocal front page and give it the recognition it deserves.
For those of you who are moving to Houston from a city with a Trader Joe’s, you’re exceptionally lucky because you also have Fiesta in town now as well. Fiesta has a larger range of the interesting foreign specialty groceries and reasonably-​priced beer and wine that Trader Joe’s is well-​known for stocking. Since it doesn’t stock mostly store-​brand products, you can find a lot of obscure and wonderful snacks and candy that you have may have missed from a trip abroad or if you’re like myself, candy blogs. You’d scoff less if you knew how many types of Dots I’ve tried because of them.
My «Less real candy, more dirt candy» credo is also easier to live by with Fiesta’s produce aisle. Good lord, I’ve never seen any other chain with such a consistent selection of fresh, cheap produce from all over the world. This is like they brought the farmer’s market to you!
In fact, the produce is so much more reasonably priced than even that value-and-«values» den Wal-​Mart that my parents stockpile produce at Fiesta when they visit Houston and drive home to north Texas with a trunk full of Fiesta produce. I’m pretty sure they’re at least as excited about Fiesta as they are about seeing me. It’s cute to see how their faces light up when they describe it.
And there lies the rub. Fiesta + Trader Joe’s is going to be my one-​two knockout punch for being a bombshell both in and out of the kitchen. For cheap, high-​quality one-​stop yuppie shopping, Fiesta is the best chain I’ve found in the US. Admittedly, Trader Joe’s wins for those with less time to cook because that frozen aisle is incomparable for saving your money and your waistline. When you’re wishing to actually get cookin’, come to Fiesta, where you can get all of what you need-​and that Shiner Ruby Red and those Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles you’ve been dying to try. A girl’s gotta live a LITTLE.

I don’t really come here for my basic groceries but you can since the prices are pretty low but when I need something special this is the place I go.
I was looking for some international stuff, especially Asian stuff but didn’t want to drive out to the bellaire area. What’s the next best thing? Fiesta a store for all of course!
I was able to find my noodles, my sauces, even my weird asian sodas.
While going through the fruit section I even found persimmons! I haven’t had these delicious little fruits in years!
They even have a Thiem Hung express. But that’s a review in itself.
