My stars are not quite aligned in this review. I checked this spot out last night after hearing about a happy hour that included crawfish and a patio. Awesome combo right! WRONG. Arrived about 7:45, nice décor, lighting, old school videos playing from the tv’s. Nice vibes. They had a 75 cent special for well drinks and wings/shrimp. & $ 5.00 stella cidres!(I love cider beer) 1st couple rounds on me! The baller! Food was decent, normal bar style. My original bartender was cool.(bald black guy) When it came time to close out around 9:30 there were a few new faces. I motioned for a girl(white, dark hair, awful attitude) to close me out and she brought the wrong tab over for both me and my friend. 4 rounds of .75 cent drinks for 2 people should’ve been $ 6. She brought another incorrect tab around $ 4& $ 17 back, at this point I’m like«why is this so difficult» I had drinks, my friend had food($ 10). Simple closeout. WHYWAS I CHARGED $ 96TOTALYALL. & my friend was charged $ 56. Even if they use that«test» amount like some merchants do when opening a tab and run it for a certain amount there is no way this is normal. I honestly felt like the girl 1.(obviously) didn’t know what she was doing or 2. did the shit on purpose once I told her to the lose the attitude & actually listen to us. I hate when stuff like this happens because the spot was nice. The experience not so much. Of course I contacted my bank but waiting on management as well.

It started with the parking. 5pm on a Thursday you can either valet or walk several blocks. My girl decided to do the $ 12 valet. I walked 4 blocks. There’s a group of bars nestled in this area so the small lot does not leave alot of parking space. Very nice atmosphere. Classy lounge type feel. Cool looking patio. So let’s get down to happy hour. They ask you to start a tab that requires a credit card. About $ 3 off select wines cocktails n food items. Here’s the problem. They were out of the first 4 items my friend wanted. No shrimp no beef only chicken items. Didn’t bother me so much but did my friend. Then try to get a refill. Sitting directly at the bar we couldn’t get anyone for a drink refill for at least 20 minutes. Got that second round n we were ready to go. Quesadillas were OK chicken wings were average. Based upon that I would eat elsewhere then come have a cocktail. Came home to 2 preauthorization charges of $ 25 on my card. I was not informed of this and why was I charged 2? I saw the mention on here that the manager said this will drop off in a few days so I waited and waited. 5 business days and 7 total days later it dropped off. Fifty bucks for a $ 20 tab. Yikes. If you come, bring cash

If My friends and I opened a bar it would be just like this one, but be named after a Civil War General. Good specials and something for everyone. Better than most of the bars in midtown where it’s too damn loud.

I would given them 5 stars but the manner was rude and they charged me $ 25 when I only spent $ 6. I might return BC the place and bartender was nice but with cash only

So this happened today. I was there for sunday brunch. I was waiting at the bar for drink. The white, female bartender with a bun on the back of her hair, saw me at the bar for a while but didnt get to me. When she finally got to me, she saw a «regular» behind me, she literally skipped me and served him. Ok… its pretty annoyed but i still waited. And when she got to me, she asked wat i want, i politely answered. She served me the drink, i put 20 $ bill on the bar, she litterally snatched it and put in her tip jar and walked to the back. No change nothing. WTF was that ?? I have never seen anything like this before. RUDEST, MOSTUNPROFESSIONALSERVICE. I WOULDNEVERCOMEBACKTHERE, AND I WOULDNOTRECOMMENDITTOANYONE. What a cool venue! I like the seating, the spacing, the dance floor, the way the DJ is out of the way, and the spacing of the table areas. The lighting is pretty cool too. It seems like the crowd is a little older so my group of yuppies stood out, but looked like everyone was having a good time. Also, the reps from Absolut Vodka handed out free Absolut mules with complimentary mugs — win! Pretty clean, sharp looking lounge. Hope this bar is on it’s way up!

I dance with a company and we hosted a documentary viewing here at Gage and it was awesome! The décor was beautiful and it’s a small place, but we never felt cramped. Their restrooms were even nice! The customer service was on point as was the food. I ordered the chicken quesadillas and they were delicious and very filling. I wasn’t aware ahead of time, but we were offered happy hour prices, so I only paid $ 10 total for quesadillas and a glass of wine. A girl can’t ask for more than that.

I have never in my life walked out of a bar because a bartender laughed in my face when I asked if they had something. I went to GAGE one month ago(as you can see below) and thought their Thursday martini deal was awesome. We went back today for a quick drink and use our appetizer check in. After being ignored by the slick back hair bros behind the bar for 10 minutes I was finally able to get someone’s attention Me–«is it martini night still» Him«um we have martini glassware?» EXTREMELY rude tone as if I was a complete idiot for asking that. I said okay last time I had awesome olives in my martini do you still have those? He then proceeded to laugh in my face and say«um this isn’t a RESTAURANT» «we are a LOUNGE» *smile smile smile* Apparently they are under new management in the last two weeks… When I asked him if he thought it was appropriate to laugh at customers requests he proceeded to tell me «IVEBEENDOINGTHISFOR15 years!!» Cool bro… Made no attempt to smooth things over or get us to stay… So we up and walked out. As you can tell from my profile I barely EVER leave 1 star reviews. This is the absolute worst I’ve ever been treated at any houston establishment and I will NEVER return or allow any of my friends to either.

I tried several cocktails here but didn’t care for any of them. The bartender seemed to be in training. My friend had one with deep eddys grapefruit she really enjoyed. We ordered a flatbread and quesadilla and both were great. There was no seating! I think they were getting ready for a party because the tables seemed to have been moved and there was a DJ but it was only 530. We had to love some bar stools to have a place to sit. We would of left had it not been pouring down rain. The music was on point though.

I really do hope this place makes it. I came here on a Friday night and it was EMPTY. It’s just too far from all of the other midtown clubs. Over on this side you only have Proof and the karaōke bars. So unless you’ve made it a point to try to go the proof, which if you did you would want to go in there. Or you get the overflow/denied people. Beyond that it’s a place that you really have to seek out and wouldn’t accidentally come into. I feel it’s a bar/lounge that would have fit much better in the Montrose area. They have great offers as far as whiskey. The bar tender on the night we visited was very well informed. We sampled a bunch of the whiskeys they had available. He went into a lot of detail about the process of each one, but it was supposed to be a crazy night in midtown, so the details are a bit of a blur. We stayed for about 30 minutes, and went back to the craziness near red door and the bunch. I definitely, will be coming back during the weekday nights when you just want a single drink and a chilled atmosphere to chat. Great concept, bad location.

I walked by GAGE by coincidence. First I thought it was a part of Reef that is located just right next to it, and I just hadn’t noticed it before. I decided to go inside and have a drink while waiting for my friend. I was there during happy hour so the prices were not bad at all. I liked that the it was not too loud and too crowded so you could actually talk to each. The bartender was very nice and very attentive. Oh– and the toilets were very clean and very stylish :) I will definitely come back again.

Swung into Gage on a weekday after having dinner at Reef nearby. I am totally glad I stumbled in! I think this bar has been several things already, but I honestly, and truly, liked Gage. Walking in the door guy was super nice and very friendly. The décor and atmosphere is well done. It has a little bit of a different feel to it than the other surrounding midtown bars. The music was a good volume and was kind of a pop-high energy mix. I liked it! There are plenty of TVS here to– so a decent spot to catch the game. The bartender was awesome! He came up right away, was friendly, and got our drinks fast. I always like to introduce myself and ask their name, and he remembered mine throughout the night. That is just good customer service! I did not get a chance to try the food but the menu seemed decent. Definitely a step above bar food!

A girlfriend and I visited GAGE lounge on Tuesday night. The weather was nice so we decided to walk to grab a drink while catching up. As we walked into GAGE, we sat at the bar and were quickly greeted by a friendly bartender. Let me say, this place is AWESOME! They have great music, a nice patio, friendly staff, clean bathrooms, and purse hooks at the bar with USBPLUGS to charge your phone! More bars should def have these! I’m one of those people that freaks out when my phones below 50% haha. i knoooowww… :-P Anywho, while sitting at the bar we find out… THEYSERVEFOOD too!!! So as the great Unilocaler that I am(wink.wink.) I checked in and TADAAA a free appetizer popped up! We ordered the Chicken & Goat Cheese Quesadillas. What can I say… DELISH! Great for sharing or perfect as a meal for yourself. If you haven’t checked this place out — what are you waiting for?

This place is like most others in midtown: a young crowd, over paying for weak drinks. Happy hour is still fairly expensive, but OK. This place is terrible; I just didn’t feel like their was anything special or unique about this place. I will give them credit for having decent music videos rolling which was kind of cool, but that is the only stand out part of this place. The staff is fine, not overly friendly but not rude. I would give this place 2.5 stars if given the option. At the time of posting they did have a Unilocal check-in promotion but we did not take advantage of it.

This review is based on the 10 minutes I spent here– it’s a great looking bar, nice location, spacious with an outdoor patio, but there were hardly any people. I came in on a Tuesday at 8 pm and there were about 6 other people there. My friend and I left, opting to go to a more happening bar. I was worried about this when I made the plan to go here based on other reviews. I was hopeful because I am rooting for this place. Maybe other nights are busier? The menu looks good and the patio is great, so maybe will try again on a weekend night.

My husband and I came here for a quick cocktail after work and before our dinner date. What I should have done is immediately re-scheduled our dinner date for this place. What a gem! The seating is fun, you can choose high or low tables, the bar, several neat-o couches, or the patio outside. Drinks are tongue-tantalizingly delicious and the food is drool-inducing. We had the goat cheese and chicken quesadilla and the Thai chicken flatbread. I would suggest both. I can’t wait to go back! The bathroom wallpaper(especially in the men’s room) is a kick! Check it out! They have live music on Thursdays 8 — 11 pm, and a DJ on the weekends.

Not sure why this place doesn’t have more people in it. Is it because Proof is right above them so everybody just goes there? Gage has all the recipes for success: classy, good music, great drinks, good location, no lines, no cover, pretty cool bouncer(he remembered my friend’s last name when we came), nice décor, nice bartenders. However, every time I come here, Gage is always about half full. I personally enjoy coming here to start the night off before going somewhere else to go wild. They have a nice patio to just kind of chill with your friends outside. The inside has couches, plenty of tables. When the music is playing, you can even dance but unfortunately I’m never buzzed enough to dance here. And plus, nobody else is dancing. The few times I’ve been here, I’ve always had a great experience. I’ll be coming here plenty more in the future. You should check it out also! Bring your friends.

My fiancé and I love it here. It’s right outside our apartment which makes it awesome and it’s always got great music. Plus, music videos, which is super awesome especially when the older stuff comes on. The bartenders and staff are super friendly and make an effort to know their customers. The food is also fantastic, my favorite is the salmon plate. Delicious. The drinks are some of the beat crafted cocktails I’ve ever had, and the bartenders really know their stuff. I haven’t ordered a drink yet that they didn’t know how to make. The seating is really comfy and there’s a ton of it. The décor itself is great, it’s hard to describe but I’d be completely happy if my house looked like Gage on the inside. Added bonus, bathrooms are always clean and the bar counter is never sticky. So, cleanliness A+

I live in Midtown so this place had a lot to live up to. Needless to say I’m a regular there now. I love 80’s rock and they always have good music and the actual music videos playing. I also love classic drinks. Godfathers, manhattans, sidecars, old fashioneds, etc. and their bar manager Brett is the man. Plain and simple he is one of the better bartenders in Houston and won’t lead you wrong. Their waitresses are cute and friendly, and their food is addicting. My fiancée literally has to have the salmon plate every time we go there. And if anything goes wrong(spilled drink or you don’t like something) they replace it free of charge, so great service. Awesome bathrooms because the place is brand new. Needless to say I recommend, so drink on and tip well.

The drinks are fabulous! Just wish they had sweet and sour for the long island iced teas! Great atmosphere. Will be bringing a group when I come back!
