I just tried Happy Jalapeño on a whim the first time I passed by. It was breakfast time so My boyfriend and I each ordered a ham and egg taco. There’s an option to add beans which we did. They also offer chorizo, potato, and sausage. The ticket? At $ 2 you can afford to get a few. I’ve since been again and plan to go in the morning for breakfast. The service is friendly and quick. I aim to try lunch in the not so distant future. Skip the near by Jack in the box and hit Happy Jalapeño.

Great flavor, but at $ 5 for 3 tacos, you get what you pay for, food-quality-wise. The beef tacos come with onions, cilantro, and avocado. The beef was fatty and tough but the spices and salsa verde were legit. This block fills up with taco trucks and street vendors every so often due to its proximity to the Mexican consulate and is a fun atmosphere. The lady who helped me spoke no English and I struggled with my order, but the owner was able to help me. There’s a nice group of picnic tables under a canopy out front.

There are too many great purely Mexican restaurants in Houston for this to be considered one of the best. My friend and I had tacos, a torta and a quesadilla. Places I would rather have each of these: torta: Taqueria Arandas tacos: 100% Taquito quesadilla: my moms house. I think this place takes the gold medal for cheesiest real mexican food restaurant name. second goes to 100% Taquito.

wow kinda shocked that i didnt get the FTR, but ill take 2nd. delicious tacos al pastor, for crazy cheap. the review below is spot on; i got really strange looks walking up to that place, from inside and out of the taco stand, but its worth it. i also had an horchata, but it wasnt that great. it was a powder mix from the fiesta across the street: i know this, not because im an horchata connoisseur, but because i saw the fiesta powdered horchata mix box on a shelf… go figure. as previously stated, they only take cash, and they dont speak english neither of which bother me. this is a must try for all tacophiles.

Dear Happy Jalapeño, I’m very sorry I’ve been working 2 blocks away from you for 6 months and never came by. I’ll try to make up for it in the next week by visiting 6 more times. Love, Mandy So Happy Jalapeño isn’t quite a a taco truck, more of a taco stand. I’ve heard many at Caroline Collective talk about it but just never got the guts to walk over there. So it might not be in the best part of the neighborhood and it might be next to/part of the Legalization de Vehicularas [forgive my spanish]; read: white girl no habla espanol gets seriously stared at. But, seriously, yo, this is some good tacos. I got 2 tacos al pastor [spicy pork] = $ 3. It was a bit of a challenge because, again, I don’t speak Spanish and they don’t speak English but I made it thru unscathed. Cash only. They couldn’t break my $ 20 even — so I fess’d up my laundry dollars. They have gorditas, tacos, tortas, tostadas and hamburgers [quite the spluge at $ 3.50 though]. My colleague tried papaya juice — its not very sweet at all and didn’t give it the thumbs up. No seating — well, 1 picnic table but you’re amongst a slew of bystanders waiting to legalize their vehicle so its a bit cramped. So if you do stop by I suggest anticipating a nice picnic either down the street at Caroline Collective or maybe Hermann Park just down the street a few more blocks. Definite suggestion if you’re in the area to swing by or on a Taco Truck tour de Houston [oh, you know you want to].
