Houston B-Cycle is SO fun, easy and inexpensive. My wife and I enjoyed 24 hour access to bikes across the downtown area for only $ 5(all tax and fees included) The catch is you only get a 60 minute session at a time, before having to return it to a location. But the plus side is you can literally return it to any of their locations for 1 second and then rent them again(as long as not all the bikes are rented at that location, and someone isn’t waiting for a bike). If you go over the 60 minute session, I believe it’s a couple more bucks for an extra 30 minutes. Such a great addition to the area, and so much fun. Check them out next time you’re in the area!

The first time I came across these bike rental self service stations was in Chicago two years ago and was amazed with the convenience and ease of it. So when I found out that Houston launched theirs the same time as Chicago I couldn’t wait to get back and try it out here. Well, finally two years later I made my way out to get it done. Houston B cycle does it smoother and way easier though! Stations are situated at great locations and you use your credit card to rental a bike. 24 hour rentals are only $ 5 and you have 60 minutes between dockings to avoid the $ 2 fee vs $ 7 and 30 mins in the Chi. Once you dock the bike for a break or whatever all you have to do is use your card to undock it at the docking station, real simple instead of using a code. It’s a 3 speed bike and it has a basket and a chain to secure the bike when you park it on a bike rack. Definitely will be riding these more often and awesome for a perfect day in Houston.

I’m glad there are places like this in Houston. We should be aiming for more if these and other congestion a reducing measures in our fair city. This station is situated perfectly for residents or tourists to take advantage of the beautiful bayou there by downtown. Be warned though, there are some killer hills. My bike’s seat kept wiggling and lowering itself at the worst times, but I am probably heavier than the average rider. I can’t wait to use these again to discover downtown.
