Found this place near my hotel and thought I’d try it out. The ambiance is 1980’s Denny’s but the food is pretty good. The service and price were also excellent, if you’re in need of some grub it’s a good spot.

A small diner restaurant that is a short walk from several hotels and a large industrial park. Sure, the Hilton has a breakfast but I thought I might step outside of my comfort zone and also pad my review count. :-) Coffee as I sat down — it was extremely hot. Like McDonald’s temperatures. Wow. The breakfast buffet looked good, so I went with that. Scrambled eggs with onions and peppers, sausages, bacon, pancakes, waffles, French toast, syrup and strawberry compote and a bunch of other stuff that doesn’t come to mind at the moment. A decent variety and even better that I could serve myself and not have to wait for it to be cooked. It was all quite good. No wi-fi and no power outlets that I could see. Also, no newspaper vending machines in the front, so I had to make do with Soduku on my iPhone to entertain myself while I ate. :-) I was more than pleased. A good deal!

I came here at 1 on a Sunday afternoon. The place wasn’t very crowded at all but the service was wonderful and the food was great. I got The Southerner which consisted of chicken fried steak, eggs, grits, and toast. It was a ton of tasty food at a good price. Plus the waitress kept my coffee cup full.

What more can be said about a diner chain that’s been around forever? Well, I’m definitely grateful this restaurant was conveniently located across the street from our hotel because the coffee at the hotel was ATROCIOUS! So, we ventured to the Kettle for breakfasts while we were in Houston for a week. Yes, the coffee at the Kettle is hot and consistently good. I can’t say enough good things about the waitress we had either. She was always smiling, friendly and ever attentive. Now, about the food. Let’s just say, if you’re in a rush, need to catch a plane and a quick bite, running late for work, yes, then get the buffet. There are plenty of choices for both the health-concious and those who don’t-give-a-@#$% about their cholesterol, blood pressure or their waist line. Yes, plently of choices on the buffet but the positive notes of that review ends there. The quality of the food on the buffet degrades my opinion significantly, but what would you expect? The eggs are kept soupy so they don’t dry out. Unless you’re going to slather those rock-hard biscuits in gravy to soften them up, go for the pancakes. Everything else is either lukewarm or lackluster. Yeah, it’ll fill you up and send you on your way, but that’s it. If you’ve got a few minutes to wait, I HIGHLY recommend ordering off the menu. There’s all the usual breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices and it comes to you hot and fresh(er). You’ll enjoy it a LOT more than the food on the buffet.

I wouldn’t make a special trip out to eat at the kettle. It is average diner fare but that being said I’ve had much worse. I ended up ordering a BLT with fries. The bacon was nice and thick as was the slathering of mayo. I was tempted to get the salad bar but since I was the only one in there I was a bit skeptical about the freshness of the ingredients. While I was eating the waitress checked the salad bar. On my way out I looked it over, the ingredients actually looked fairly fresh.

It’s 4am on the east coast and all I can think about is the chicken fried chicken sandwich on Texas toast I had around 3pm central time yesterday. I’m a bit suspicious as to how fresh my food actually was since it only took about three minutes for it to get to my table… but I don’t care. It was SO delicious. I’ve been to this Kettle twice on two different occasions for rushed lunches before catching afternoon flights at IAH. It never fails. I always leave satisfied and it makes leaving Texas just that much harder. I would trade all the diners in New Jersey for a Kettle.

4AM. 3 more hours till we get the hell out of here. 10 more glasses of orange juice to go. During our layover, we decided to grab an early morning bite at this 24 hour diner joint. Not only do they have a buffet, but a large menu of all day breakfast items. Perhaps a little too big of a menu for us to comprehend in the wee hours of the day. The benedict was exactly what I needed, though it was the first time I was ever given the option of not having my eggs poached. Also, a homestyle gravy smothered the sweet biscuits and eggs instead of a hollandaise sauce. I don’t know how they do things here in the south, but I’m down with that! +excellent service

One of the better burgers I’ve had in awhile. After being confused by the clusterf*** of roads around Houston, I decided to settle on this place around the corner from my hotel. Turned out to be good and I would actually come back if I could.

Before I begin this review, let’s just start with the fact that there aren’t many places by IAH that are open after 11:30pm. Another fact — EVERYTHING is big in Texas. Especially the portions at restaurants! My brother-in-law and I shared an order of chicken fried steak(about the size of a racquetball racket head) and a side of onion rings. Good thing he can eat more than me, because I was stuffed after eating only about a 1⁄3 of the chicken fried steak! Not fine dining, but the waitress was friendly and attentive… I’d go back for some good eats. :)
