Sunday Eve, past 11, and the Tacos El Gato trailer isn’t there(due to Mother’s Day, perhaps), so I’m here at La Tapatia trying the ‘street tacos’– High hopes. OK, 8 for $ 16+tax – good price! Few(well, 2) choices(beef or pork, traditional Mexican ‘BBQ’-style, basically), with cilantro(yum!) and onions(yawn). All-in-all, worth it – especially after-hours.

Do not order take out from this place, your order will not be correct. And if you call to let the manager know, he is completely useless, although very polite l.

Amazing tasty large portioned guacamole… Tampiquena combo and shredded chicken enchiladas are off the chain! Service is always quick and attentive.

We used to live by the location on Richmond and it was a staple for a long time. So when we moved to Westchase, I mourned. Husband and I were pleasantly surprised to see this was practically across the street again. This one is a little nicer. The staff are super sweet, service is great, and the margaritas could knock you over. They aren’t overly sugary – which is a HUGE plus(order the top shelf). I usually get nachos and a side of mole with grilled jalapeños. The green salsa is great, though the red has a bit too much oregano. I do recommend the pickled carrots to munch on.

Service was fairly good, albeit a bit slow. Menu has quite a few items on it, and although it was fairly good food, not a lot of spices or flavor. Drinks were good, but had to ask a lot of questions as there wasn’t a full drink menu.

I frequent this La Tapatia, because they have the BEST Coronaritas. It’s typically happy hour where I always order the exact same thing Coronarita and the botana chilanga plate which is an appetizer plate with stuffed mushrooms, stuffed bacon wrapped jalapenos, flautas and taquitos. This is not all for me and is shared of course! It’s a lot of food and it is good! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is because the restrooms always have a weird stinky smell. It’s not dirty… just stinky. Eitherway I still return because I am a fan. Just as well their staff is always very friendly and attentive.

We only had margaritas here and I will tell you they will knock you on your ass if you are not careful. That is all. ;)

Came here for lunch — The place looked pretty neat and fancy compared to other Tapatia restaurants. The staff were tentative and professional. Chips were pretty good but the salsa needed work.(Plain and no taste) I ordered the Horchata and it was on point — wished they added some cinnamon powder but it was good. For the entrée I got the beef fajitas for 1 — This fajita dish does NOT come with cheese, guacamole nor sour cream.(only burnt onion) The pico de gallo was placed on the hot skillet and it made the pico warm yucky — Side dishes was rice and beans. The fajita meat was cut very thin without any seasoning and over cooked — This made it very dry and bland so again, it would have been nice if it came with some guacamole or sour cream. For the price, I would have definitely went down the street of Walnut Bend and Westheimer(El Palenque) I must say — This restaurant is just for looks — I much rather go to the regular Tapatias!

Wait is too long for appetizer, food AND check. Ordered a combination plate(one with skirt steak, enchilada and taco) and it was very disappointing. It was pretty obvious that they left my plate on the window for a long ass time bc the cheese was extra hard and the enchilada meat sauce was burned into the plate. It was bland and I would’ve rather had velveeta than the cheese I got. Everyone was disappointed with their meal. The only thing I’m feeling is the margarita.

Prices are not too expensive and pretty decent. Chips, salsa, and quac were good! The mexican combo plate El Musico was pretty great! Enchiladas were different than what Im used to but were worth the 9 bucks. Chicken floutas were lacking a bit of flavor but nothing some salsa and sour cream couldnt fix. Their rice and beans are on point! My boyfriend had the nachos and he loved em! Had this to go and was ready super fast! Definitely will be back to try more of the menu!

It was good, but it isn’t THE Place. Service was a bit slow, but the Carne Asada was great. I raised my eyebrows when I read meat gravy and chili con quest, but it really worked. I’d go back again for sure, but I think there has to be a better place out there somewhere. Still looking for it. If anyone knows where I can get pork green chili, let me know.

Upon entering this establishment, I noticed that there were relatively few customers. Regardless, I was seated immediately after requesting a table for a friend and I. While waiting for my friend, I ordered a margarita on the rocks and a glass of water. Both were delivered quickly(within 5 minutes). Chips and salsa accompanied my beverages(warm chips, and two nicely spiced salsas). This gave me time to observe the lovely décor of the Restuarant, and see who the Rockets were playing. I decided to order the La Musica plate when my friend arrived. It arrived in a great amount of time, with plenty of food in the plate. The beans and rice were only okay in my opinion, but the enchiladas were decent, and the flauta was nicely crisped. I honestly think that my higher review is because of the tasty margaritas. The margaritas on the rocks are inherently fresh, and were only $ 3.75 each during happy hour! My friends and I will almost definitely visit again.

This place made pretty good Mexican food. I had the Enchilada plate except with Chili Con Queso instead of meat sauce. The beans and tortillas were awesome, and the rice was good. The enchiladas were pretty good, roughly the same as you would expect. Salsa and chips went well together. Prices were reasonable $ 8 – 10 per plate. Service was good though she spoke mostly Spanish, so that might be a problem for some. Place seemed clean and cozy. I’ll go back if I am in the area. Trying the one on Bellaire next.

I’ve only been for drinks in the bar area so I can’t say anything about the food. They have good drink specials and the salsa is pretty good. There are TV’s and an outside patio area. The service was great, never had an empty glass and they were very friendly.

We went here for the first time last night, around 10 pm post work out. The lights were dimmed both in the dinning and at the bar. It felt cozy and comfy, but at the same time some what modern. They also have patio seating. First they bring out the chips with the 2 types of salsa. Pretty good. I ordered the tilapia $ 11.95 had it with a side of veggies and charro beans, but you could get rice. It was pretty good, i enjoyed the seasoning/flavor of the tilapia. The bf ordered the chicken tacos with the corn tortillas, which he claimed was pretty standard. The price though was pretty good. I think they may have had reverse happy hour bc his tacos(3) were only $ 2.95! Service was pretty quick and efficent.

Can La Tapatia break the curse for this nice corner restaurant location? After all, before La Tapatia took over this spot, the previous tenant was also a Tex Mex restaurant. In my opinion, there’s a slight chance but they do need to do some more improvements to do so. First of all, Rioja is right next door to this spot. Yes, I understand one is Tex-Mex and the other is Spanish tapas, but I’ll be honest, to average going out to eat consumers, they’re all the same in a way. For one thing, they are trying to distinguish itself from all other Tex Mex in Houston. For example, on their menu, their fajita platter called as de la parrilla, or from the grill. We came here for a weekday dinner and there wasn’t too many customers that night. The hostess let us choose either table or booth and we choose the booth. After we sat down, the server came and took our drink order and we were looking over the menu while we wait for the drink and the chips + salsa. Now as for the food, I did order the One Parrillada Mixta for 2 since I felt like beef and chicken, but it also comes with shrimp which is good as my dining mate like shrimp the most. The food came out in good time along with all the sides to make the fajitas. The food is good but nothing really special that makes this place stand out from any other Tex Mex in the area. But the plus side about this place is that it is really close to where I live and the next Tex Mex restaurant is a few more blocks down from this place. With the price of the food and the service, I would definitely come back again when I crave for more fajitas or any other Tex Mex food.
