I have many food options and people are always attentive to you. Typically when you go in the daytime it’s not busy. Pretty clean. I always see people cleaning which is always a good sign

I was so excited that I was going to be able to eat at Luby’s during our Houston trip. When I was younger, my family were regulars of Luby’s here in the Valley of the Sun, until they all closed. After eating at Luby’s in Houston I now know why they all closed. I had to eat crow after hyping up Luby’s to my wife. I told her that it was one of the best places that I ate when I was younger. Sadly, the same things don’t seem to be the same when you get older. I settled on the Chopped Turkey; I wanted carved Turkey, but I guess they don’t do that anymore. The chopped turkey was like eating a salt lick. Wow. I think that I got a months worth of my RDA allowance of sodium in the two bites I took. I did not finish, instead I asked our«server» if I could get something else. My wife got the grilled chicken, it was terrible. She took two bites and was done with that. My something else was blackened tilapia. Half way into it I stopped eating because I did not think that it was cooked all the way. I felt like stomping back up to the serving line and yelling«It’s raw» Gordon Ramsey style, but I refrained. The sides were your typical Luby’s sides. Mashed potatoes, canned green beans, mac n cheese. Nothing at all spectacular. We both got salads. I should have gotten my dressing on the side like my wife did, because the salad maker drenched my salad with too much ranch. The ONLY redeeming item about this place was the service. The«server» was very nice and did not even ask questions when I asked for something else. Very sad to say that this was the worst place that we ate during our trip. Next time I’ll think twice before traveling down memory lane.

Texas chain — a cafeteria style restaurant that groups of people eat at after church and graduations. I remember the lines out the doors growing up that we’d wait in for what seemed like hours after church. I loved the kid’s plate with a fried chicken leg, mashed potatoes and gravy, and macaroni and cheese. They have the best macaroni — so cheesy. And the fruit salad, red jello(sometimes I’d eat green or blue), and the pumpkin pie! oh the bliss of the pumpkin pie. And the kids plates come with these super soft, doughy, yummy big rolls. Dip it in your tators and gravy mixed with awesome southern fried chicken — oh yeah. And if your parents are feeling generous they’ll let you grab a chocolate milk too. My little sister used to mix her mac and jello in her glass of ice water when she was a wee babe — ah the memories. They have the Andes mints at the check out for ten cents that are irresistible. Great southern eating. Can’t seem to find anything like it up North.

A Texas chain of cafeterias that’s been around since the old days. This location has undergone a renovation and it’s much nicer these days, my brother says. My family used to spend every Friday here for quite some time; it’s pretty much the only place we ever went out to eat. It’s still so cheap. Love the almondine fish and mac ‘n cheese and refrigerator pie/Boston cream pie. It sends one huge wave of nostalgia right through me. When my brother was a toddler, there was an older Asian woman pushing around a cart that would give us «a hot towel for the little one». I miss her. I miss Luby’s.
