I was an adult client of Magness Orthodontics in the late 80s. Marla Magness-Myers had not yet made the scene, so this review addresses only Robert Magness. Everything was fine until I questioned the progress of my treatment. I asked Dr. Magness about it in person and was given what seemed to be a generic answer. Unsatisfied, I wrote him a letter outlining my concerns. I didn’t receive a reply by mail, but when I reported for my next appointment, I was ushered into a private room with only one chair. This was unusual, since up to that time I had always been seated in the multi-chair treatment gallery. I soon found out why. Dr. Magness came into the room and began with«I got your letter. It was a jerky letter.» From this I inferred that he didn’t like my letter. Apparently he had arranged for me to be in a private room for the sole purpose of chewing me out for daring to write him a private letter expressing my concerns with the progress of my treatment. After that incident I observed that Dr. Magness was noticeably rough, almost to the point of pain when he probed in my mouth to examine my teeth. I don’t claim any connection to the letter incident, just an observation. Dr. Magness was(and I assume still is) very highly regarded from a technical, skill perspective. However, I was very dissatisfied with his attitude toward my satisfaction with his work. I got the impression it didn’t matter whether I was satisfied or not.
