Mattress Firm Crossing at Fry Road

I really liked the sales person at Mattress Firm, but I really dislike the financing (Wells Fargo) and the delivery service had a few problems, so I rounded the whole shebang out to a 3-​star experience.
We knew we wanted some kind of memory foam mattress so of course they tried to sell the Tempurpedic. We had done our research, and after lying on them for a while and decided to get one. Their return policy appears to be great (better than ordering directly from Tempurpedic). They ask you to sleep on the new bed for 30 days before you ask for a return, and after that you have up to another 90 days to request a return totaling 120-​day trial. I think all you had to pay was a delivery fee or something — i.e. no restocking fee.
The delivery was supposed to happen around 5:30p but they called around 3:50p to say they were on their way! I had to rush home from work to meet them and disassemble our current bed so I wasn’t too happy about that. They also dropped a large, incredibly sticky sticker on my wood floor and didn’t remove it before they left. When I removed it, the thing left a bunch of gunk :[
On to the financing… I really don’t like financing if I have the cash available, but it was 0% interest for a year so I said what the heck, you know? Well I get the first bill from WF, try to set up automatic payments — got a confirmation number and everything — and I think everything is hunky-dory…but then I look at my bank statement and realize money had not been withdrawn for the payment! Sure enough I log in to Wells Fargo and the payments had not been set up. I pay manually this time, set up the automatic payments AGAIN, and guess what? They still have not been set up. I decide to just pay off the balance because I think they’re trying to make auto-​payment difficult so the due date can pass and they can collect their late fee. I also think there is a fee associated with what they call «Transfers» which just means you’re paying your account with another checking account outside of WF. I think it was like $ 3/​month. Just beware, y’all.

After a terrible experience with Sears home delivery we went to this store and were able to buy the same bed and have it delivered that night. Friendly, helpful people and a great price. Will definitely return if our new bed ever expires.

People here know the art of sales. They know that people walking into a mattress store have the intent of purchase (why else would you browse mattresses) and are very patient and kind.
And for that reason, we’ve been buying mattresses here for years. Simmons, Tempurpedic, and most recently the $ 3700 Stearns and Foster that you would think would come with wings and a pilot at that price.
Thankfully, we got a good deal, because Rolly is awesome. Joe sold us our mattresses in the past and he wasn’t there this time but Rolly was also very helpful. Not only was he very respectful, he was informative in explaining the science of mattress coils, and was able to get on the phone and get us the price we were willing to pay.
There is always a price that makes both sides happy — making a good sales is a matter of finding it quickly without hitting nerves on either side. Many salespeople selling furniture don’t get this (e.g. Star Furniture near Highway 6 and Ethan Allen near Wilcrest off I-​10, which is why my family will never buy from them anymore). Even though my mom won’t buy a new mattress or furniture every month, she does and will buy it from the same people throughout the course of her lifetime — as will my 3 aunts, and their children, and THEIR children, and I, and my friends. And we do remodel and get new furniture at least every few years, so finding respectful salespeople that we like is important to us.
Anyway, I digress. If you want a pleasant purchasing experience, this Mattress Firm is the one to find (my family didn’t have the same experience at the Bunker Hill location, so we went back to Katy even though the Bunker Hill one is now closer to us). Ask for Rolly. Or Joe. And once you get that mattress you want — happy floating.
