Great food and atmosphere! Very welcoming. I would request the oxtails and beef patties with cheese inside, so yum!

Recently dined here for the first time and already planning to return soon to have the dishes I didn’t have such as oxtails, chicken curry, brown gravy chicken, etc. Had the jerk chicken dinner and it was delicious and filling. Always looking for a solid meal at a fair price so left her happy. The people working here are very nice and welcoming. This is a very casual place, emphasis on the reallyh good food. Another plus, it’s BYOB so we’re taking a bottle of wine next time.

Food was good. I had the stew chicken. You get a lot for your money! I like the painted walls. Friendly staff. Not in the best area but if we support them and the merchants they can grow! Great deal for your money. I have leftovers for dinner. Nice music and ambiance.

Hands down, the best Jamaican stewed chicken I’ve ever had. The sauce was delicious and the chicken feel off the bone, tender, juicy… yum. The potato salad and veggies and rice we good too. The ginger beer was homemade and yummy. The patties were not the best I’ve ever had but they were quite good. My guy had ox tail stew and said it was amazing. Everything was reasonably priced and the staff were sweet and helpful. I would highly recommend it!

I went to this place because I’ve been hearing about it for years and could never find it. I went in at 4pm on a Thursday. Well they were about to close. And they only had one order of curry chicken left and a half order of Jerk chicken. It may be wrong but when I judge a Caribbean restaurant i judge it off of those two things and meat pies. They were kind to me, the restaurant was very clean and the bar was built up very nice. Since they were closing I took it to go. There was very little meat like 3 cubes of curry chicken and a huge helping of peas n rice with no gravy on it. The taste was tolerable but disappoimting. Those two items and a soda ran me $ 20 something bucks. i won’t be back. I found Tropical Diner in Katy and I’ve been hooked every since. Much better quality food.

In the mood for some Jamaican/Caribbean fare? This place’ll serve it to ya, with a side of ginger beer to boot. We had the goat roti, and it was pretty awesome. I’ve had better, but only in Jamaica itself. Same thing for the the beef pattys, quality stuff. Pretty cool locals vibe going on. I get the feeling that if you come here enough you’ll probably see the same folks.

I always have wanted to try Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine, but just never had the opportunity. So I set out to try Reggae Hut, and I’m glad I did for my first taste of the Caribbean. When you enter the restaurant, you’re greeted by a gregarious man in front of the register with his booming«WELCOMETOREGGAEHUT.» He could tell that it was my first time here, so he allowed me to try everything on the menu except for the seafood. I ended with the curry chicken with red bean rice and potato salad and it was surely a feast. The curry was pungent, heavy and it worked well in tandem with the chicken, tender and falling off the bone. My only thing was that there were only two relatively small pieces of chicken… wish there was more piece to soak up the hearty curry. The rice and potato salad were good, but nothing out of this world — just good material to fill the gaps in your stomach. I also got their home-brewed ginger beer and it was really good. I was expecting more carbonation, but I was thrilled with the kick of the ginger, which was spicier than the curry! I’ll definitely be coming back to try to Oxtail; had a sample of that and was in heaven but didn’t want to drop $ 16 on the dish.

My coworker swears by this place and have introduced so many new customers, she gets discounts now for her referrals! But she finally was able to drag me here and yum! The beef patties are delicious! I can see what the hype is about! Totally authentic Jamaican food! I also ordered the oxtails and they were so tender! I’m not sure what was in the sauce but it was amazing! It came with rice and steamed veggies! I also ordered the cocoa bread but didn’t like it as much as my coworker. Maybe I got a dead loaf but it was sorta chewy and hard. I think she says it’s normally softer but I didn’t taste the cocoa and it tasted like regular bread to me. Overall, food is good and the ambiance has a nice Jamaican feel to it with the décor and music!

Ever since I tried D’Caribbean in Pearland, I’ve been FIENDIN’ for Caribbean food. I don’t even know anything about Caribbean food, all I know is that beef patties are the bomb diggity and jerk chicken is a holy gift from heaven. So when Dak n Bop was closed for gas problems(heh heh) I decided to come here for a mid afternoon fix. First things first — parking sucks. You either have to be lucky and find parking directly on the street, or you have to circle around the neighborhood looking for parking in the back. Next, the place. It looks a little divey, with painting and inspirational words all up on the wall. Which is cool, I can jive with that. Makes for good Snapchat ammo. Next, the menu. I got a beef patty and a «jerk chicken salad sandwich», which sounded dank, mon! It took like 15 minutes to make my order, which I didn’t understand because 1) the beef patties are right there on display and 2) the chicken salad is cold, so WTF were they cooking? Whatever, I just sat on one of their divey sofas and perused the«Houston» ongoing Snapstory.(Shoutout H town.) I couldn’t wait 10 minutes to get home to start eating, because I’m impatient and I want it all. And I want it now. So I took a bite out of the beef patty — and don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad, but I would be shocked if they made these themselves. It looked and tasted exactly like a beef patty I had bought from the frozen aisle in HEB before. The crust wasn’t flaky, and the filling was pretty flat and uniform-looking. But I was hungry, so I didn’t care and scarfed it down. I get home and start eating the jerk chicken salad sandwich, and honestly, I couldn’t even tell I was eating jerk chicken. Why? Everything was mashed so small(like sand) that there might have been zero actual chicken in the sandwich and I wouldn’t have known it. It also wasn’t spicy at all, and the bread was so thick that it suffocated most of the flavor of the chicken salad. The only redeeming thing about the plate was the fried plantains, which were crispy, but also needed some more salt/pepper flavor. If I need to dip it in ketchup… then it don’t taste good ’nuff. Basically, whatever crack pipe fiending I previously had for Caribbean food has turned into a small vape-like itch after trying this place. Which I’m okay with, since it’s hard to find, and it’s not the cheapest food. But for a place that I heard shares an owner with The Breakfast Klub, I expected better.

I’ve come here a handful of times. I like to bring people that have never been because it’s unlikely they’ve had authentic Jamaican food in Houston. Plus, it’s divey and unsuspecting so I’ve found that most people I bring consider it a nice surprise. The first thing to know is that Reggae Hut is owned by Marcus Davis, the same guy who owns and operates the Breakfast Klub. Why is this required information? Because you know you’re going to get quality food(albeit not as good as TBK) and *huge* helpings. I’m usually the only person that finishes my whole plate of food at Reggae Hut. This is a significant point of emphasis because at $ 11-$ 15 an entrée for lunch that might feel expensive to some, but know that most of you will get 2 meals out of it. First step if you’ve never been… Ask to try a few of their meats… the stew, the jerk chicken, the oxtail, the goat. It’s all delicious. One colleague recently said, «Oh my gosh. It’s all good, but I *have* to get the goat. You just can’t find good goat anywhere in Houston.»(She acknowledged that Chris Shepherd’s braised goat dumplings at Underbelly are, obviously, another exception). Step two, pick one. Step three, gorge yourself. [Food]: The first two times I came, I was very impressed. And my wife and I honeymooned in Jamaica so we’ve experience great Jamaican food. Honestly, I feel like it’s slipping a little. The last couple of times, I’ve had more bones in my meat and the veggies have been pretty under cooked and under seasoned. I personally feel like my cabbage shouldn’t crunch like lettuce. [Service]: The staff is friendly, accommodating and helpful — especially if you’ve never been. [OVERALL]: I still feel like this is a hidden gem and a great place to get something different. The staff is friendly, the servings are huge and their selection of Jamaican meats are quite delicious. My first two times were a hard 4 stars, but the last two have been 3’s…I’m giving 3 stars for the recency effect, but I’ll be back to give them another go soon.

If you want food that will burn the taste buds instantly from off your foliate papillae and forcefully make you throw your plate away. Come here. We ordered the Jerk Chicken, Beef patty, and Ting. The Jerk Chicken was too hot and tough to chew. The patty was small and looked like it just was popped in the microwave. The chicken was served with cabbage, rice, and beans. I couldn’t finish it on a count of the meal was way too pungent to consume. Every few seconds I had to chug down water or milk to contain the flames in my mouth. It was unbearable and the veggies didn’t help. On a count of I don’t even like steamed cabbage. The Ting; however, was the only thing that was good. A carbonated grapefruit drink I can get at the store. It partially doused the inferno. The atmosphere was dead. There was no one in the establishment and the owner/cashier was not nice. It was my mother, sister, and my first time here. She could’ve showed a smile at least. The portions are large. But what is large portions going to get you if the food isn’t good. I know what it got me, a wasted plate and money in the trash can. The Reggae Hut isn’t all Reggae in it for me. I will not be back.

The owners weren’t friendly at all when we walked in; the cashiers were acting nonchalant and not speaking to us. On a Friday, there was nobody there just us and the owners. The menu was very expensive. I opted out to actually order food; I just got a beef patty. The beef patty was tiny, it didn’t own up to its high price tag. It didn’t taste fresh either. The jerk chicken my sister ordered was way too spicy, it was very difficult to savor it. It made my eyes and nose running; I hate when that happens. I won’t be back. The parking seemed like a lot of cars, but I guess for other businesses.

I’m starting to realize that people in Houston have no taste buds. I can’t even imagine why this place has 4 stars. The rice taste and looks days old. The meat is so tough I can barely tear it apart. The only thing that was edible was the soggy mixed vegetables and the plantains. EVERYONE recommended the jerk chicken y’all lied and y’all owe my $ 15. Y’all also recommended the«fresh squeezed lemonade» aka artificial lemon juice, water and a shit ton of sugar. I’d like my money back for that as well. Not only does the place smell like a flooded basement it also looks that way. As a West Indian this food is disrespectful! I would never ever eat here again. I’m scared to even touch the carrot cake I bought. This makes me miss NYC even more.

I totally had to give this place another try after my co-worker told me how great her lunch was. I obviously ordered the wrong thing when I visited the first time and now, in hindsight. who goes to a Jamaican Restaurant and orders a chicken salad sandwich. Shame on me! Today’s visit was absolutely fabulous. I order the Jerk Shrimp which came with red beans and rice, cabbage, corn, red peppers. it was DELICIOUS. Be warned. it’s spicy BUT über flavorful. The Sweet plantains are soft and creamy! You must try one of the Jamaican sodas too. you will love them! Glad I came back!

Not the best island food I’ve ever had, but it was passable. I got a stew chicken plate. The veggies were a bit undercooked for my liking, and the chicken pieces were big and meaty almost like it was chicken breast… Didn’t really like that. All in all the food was just OK. Noting extra ordinary about it.

I just had the wonderful goat curry. It was delicious. The meal comes with veggies and red beans in rice. I recommend this dish. One of the best parts was the nice young ladies behind the counter who greeted me as I walked in the door. They showed me the menu and apparently you can order to go also! I’m excited to return to try the ox tail. *Try the scotch bonnet hot sauce, I left with a little bit of a runny nose, haha.

I came here for the first time Tuesday April 14 for a quick lunch. I ordered the curry chicken which came out to be a very generous portion two people could devour. Everything was seasoned very well, lots of flavor, a good amount of spice but not overwhelmingly spicy. I loved how they slice corn on the cob into smaller manageable pieces to eat I felt more lady like. My friends ordered the jerk chicken and the coconut shrimp which happen to be the special of the day. I will definitely be coming back to try more of their menu items!

I had the garlic shrimp with extra vegetables instead of rice. The food was good but nothing spectacular. The atmosphere was great they had live music and very attentive staff. Next time I will have a more authentic like jerk chicken or another real Jamaican dish.

Best Jamaican food in Houston! A great hidden gem by the Breakfast Klub owner, Marcus. The staff is super friendly and welcoming — which is good because not everyone is used to this area of town! They serve huge portions for a resin able price. Quality and flavors can’t be beat. I’ve had the jerk chicken(best I’ve had), goat stew, fried plantains, and many other dishes. The jerk is my favorite. Great spice and flavor, served with cabbage and great rice and beans. Love this place, and love bringing new friends here. It never disappoints.
