Had a great birthday breakfast here! A truly unique casual café. You order at the counter and then pick a place to sit. The Huevos Rustika was cooked perfectly and the Chicken Crepes were light and fluffy and the chicken had a great grill flavor.

DONOTGIVETHESEGUYSYOURBUSINESS… THEYAREBADPEOPLEANDWILLSCREWYOU! My wife ordered a cake for my daughter’s birthday 3 weeks before the Birthday Party. I arrived to pick up the cake and they said they had no record of the order even though I had a receipt and they had charged my credit card. After I told the guy that they need to figure and put him on the phone with my wife HETOLDHERETOSHUTUP because she was upset at him! We almost got into a fistfight over this issue. These guys have always overcharged for their cakes, but I paid it because of the ease of dealing with them even though their cakes are mediocre. Now I WILLNEVERUSETHEMAGAIN. If you are reading this, I beg you to take your business somewhere else. These people do not deserve your business and should not be rewarded for abusing clients.

I got my wedding cakes from rustika and it was a pretty good experience. The owner is great. they made the wedding cake exactly how I wanted it. The grooms cake could have been slightly better but that was no problem. The problem was that my wedding ceremony began at 6pm. They said the would have the cake there at 4:45ish. The cake didn’t arrive until 6pm!!! They also didn’t answer any of my calls or bother calling me to let me know that they were running late. I haven’t heard from them at all. It was a close call. They cakes did arrive though and they looked great!

Stopped by for Brunch to do an interview here and I have to say I was happy I stopped by. Ordered the breakfast taco and it was pretty big. Everything tasted fresh and definitely made to order. The eating area was roomy and the décor was warming and inviting. They had pastries and a few cakes on display which my wife and I will definitely have to try when we come back. They also make specialty cakes for all occasion so that was good to know. From the reviews their cakes are amazing apparently!

Love this place! Breakfast was awesome. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. I had a croissant sandwich with eggs, turkey, spinach & cheese and a caramel cappuccino. My friend tried the Bella frittata and a coffee. We both were impressed and plan to visit again soon!!!

Cute, simple bakery and café for a light lunch! I met a former supervisor of mine here for lunch yesterday, and it was nice, calm, quiet place for a meal like that! They have a simple menu — soups, salads, sandwiches, empanadas. I had the lunch combo #2 — small bowl of soup and half sandwich. The sandwiches are HUGE. HUGE. Half of a sandwich was a full meal! I tried the mushroom onion soup(light broth with mushroom and onions — very good) and tuna salad sandwich(not bad, very simple, very plain). I also had a cappuccino, which was quite good. Only a few tables, but very quiet, cute place to grab a bite to eat.

I have come to this location 4 times already. I have made this location part of my Sunday routine after going to Lakewood. It’s right across from it and it gives me an opportunity to have the best brunch and meal after receiving the word of God. Every visit has been exceptional and the food is phenomenal. I don’t know all their secrets to this awesome hash brown recipe but I give glory to God because someone came up with the standard of hash browns! Their hash brown is so very much delicious and can be eaten now and later. I prefer to eat now and buy some for later preferably two. They are always professional and courteous to everyone. You will not be disappointed by anything you order to include meals, bread and desserts made fresh daily. I have brought my family here and friends here anytime they come into town. This place is the best kept brunch location! Instead of siting in traffic come and enjoy a heavenly meal with great customer service! LOVETHISPLACE!

Rustika made both our wedding cakes. They have a huge variety of cakes and flavors to choose from and all of them are DELICIOUS! We just showed them a picture of something we liked and they made it happen! I highly recommend working with Rustika’s Bakery!!!

Not bad! I dropped in while waiting for other shops to open in the strip. Place looked nice n casual. Lotsa pastries n sweets to try. Settled on an iced mochaccino with a double espresso shot layered over vanilla. Oh and an oatmeal raisin cookie! The doubleshot was a bit sour and not bitter at the end. The more I sipped it the more I realized there was no vanilla layered at the bottom. If it was there I sure didn’t taste it, lol! I like espresso by itself but the acidic sour punch just threw me off. Not what I was expecting but a caffeine kick is all I cared about. It wired me up pretty fast! Then tried the mochaccino and I was expecting a bold tasting coffee beverage with hints of chocolate. But it was more like a Yoo-hoo with coffee notes. Very weak. Tasted more like something I’d order for a kid. Not bad, but again not what I was expecting. Refreshing nonetheless… I still enjoyed it. The best part was their oatmeal raisin cookies. Wow! Nice n soft, perfect balance of sweet and salt hints to bring out all the flavors blended with a perfect buttery finish. Tasted like a healthy homemade cookie from scratch. It was so big I couldn’t finish it! Overall it was ok. If anyone can recommend a favorite iced beverage to order with a bolder coffee kick that’s not too sweet please holler at me! I’d like to try this place again. Service was kind and courteous as well. I’ll try it again soon. EDIT: I had written up this review while I was there in the shop and I hadn’t submitted it, but I want to make a note about how the gentleman working the counter made it a point to ask how everything was. I told him it was all ok. I expressed how I had expected something with a bit more boldness to it, and he said«Oh well in that case you should have said something. I could have recommended the Cuban Roast instead of the regular. It was almost as if he knew what I was getting at and we talked a bit more about the espresso and how they can prepare it. My advice is to tell them what you like in a style of coffee and see what they can serve you. I didn’t ask, and I wanted to see what they had to offer from the get go but at least now I know for next time. I thought it was a great exchange of words and opinions and he said he would remember me the next time I go back. Now I can’t wait! Bumping it up to 4 stars from 3. Communication and genuine interest in the experience goes a very long way in my book.

The three stars is based on their french-toast. I couldn’t say it’s bad but it’s not good either. But I think no one goes to Rustika for french toast anyway. I did, however, like the hot chocolate made with their home-made milk. I would go back if I have a chance and I will be sure to give their empanadas a try. Service is just OK.

Nice little café tucked on the outskirts of Kirby, right before Rice Village. Their is an emphasis on Argentinian style pastries, such as the empanadas, alfajores, and dulce de leche coffee. Although i’d say this place is more of an international café. Their are desserts to please anyone here, ranging from muffins, scones, crepes, etc. I tried the coffee here. and it was stellar. Warm with a roasted taste and wholesome. Had an apple empanada which I asked to be toasted. It was fresh, soft and doughy. I believe I spoke to the manager who was friendly and welcoming. He mentioned that all of the empanadas are baked and not fried. The flavor of the apple empanada reminded me of apple pie, with small chunks of apples clinging to a spiced and fragrant sauce. I give three stars because some of the items are pricey and you’ll need a credit card for purchases lower than $ 10. I’ll be visiting soon again to try other items off the menu such as the alfajores(shortbread cookies sandwiched between a layer of dulce de leche [milk caramel]) and the savory items off the menu. Their werent too many people inside when I visited on a Saturday afternoon. Nice and cozy café when passing through the inner loop.

This place… Is fantastic. If anyone wants to criticize one item or another, that’s just personal preference. The service is friendly and attentive, the menu is varied and reasonably priced, the desserts are mouth watering. Soups, sandwiches, empanadas, tacos, salads, chips and salsa, teas, sodas, coffee, cakes, cookies, muffins, sticky buns, scones, pastries, croissants, fresh baked breads to go… I am in heaven. Definitely will be back, as often as I can.

I’m so disappointed, I’ve been customer for 7 years, using them exclusively for corporate and personal functions. But while ordering a cake on January 21 for my daughters bday on Feb 14, I requested a ¼ sheet cake with a Minnie character, the cake was $ 59 plus décor charges. 10 min after we hung up my card was charges $ 265, not even close to the amount we discussed. I immediately called to talk, the owner Leo was rude and acted as if it was completely normal… I asked him to cancel my order and asked for a refund. He said he would cancel and refund, I have even recorded on my phone bc he was acting very rude. It’s been two weeks and after 5 or six attempts to resolve this by calling them to follow up, I’ve received no refund, also went in to the store and was told I had to resolve with merchant services, because they refuse to offer the refund I was promised by their owner, noting also that their system isn’t set up for refunds. The entire experience was so negative, they continued to say that they did nothing wrong. I feel so taken advantage of, my loyalty has been completely misplaced. Doing business should be mutually beneficial!

When I ordered a very expensive custom cake from Rustika for my husbands SURPRISE birthday party I was told they could deliver it. I gave them the address for the party venue when I ordered the cake and then also emailed the address just to be sure all the bases were covered. I called two days before the SURPRISE party to be sure they had the address and they pulled up my email while on the phone verifying the delivery address. They delivered the cake an hour late to my home(billing address) without so much as a box to cover it, rang the doorbell and handed it over the gate to my husband!!! The cake missed the party and ruined the surprise. It was beyond disappointing. It made me sick to have spent almost 400.00 for a cake only to have it spoil the day. The worst part, they wouldn’t return my calls to apologize for completely blowing an expensive surprise party. I will never set foot in the place again and would advise if you order a cake there anyway, do not trust them to deliver it to the right place. PS. I only gave a single star because this will not post without highlighting at least one star

I stopped by today on my way home from work because I was craving a slice of GOOD cake. Fortunately I was able to get in right before closing. I asked the guy at the register what cake slices were available and he told me double chocolate. He could tell that wasn’t my favorite so he offered to cut the white chocolate raspberry. Even though I’d not tried that before, I’m glad I took his suggestion. It was absolutely delicious! The slice was huge and worth every cent of the $ 6.25 price. It was rich, luscious, and decadent. Can you tell I liked it? LOL. They definitely don’t skimp on the ingredients. The only reason I’m giving 4⁄5 is because the floor was very sticky. Although it didn’t look dirty, I could here and feel my soles sticking with each step. Hopefully, this will not happen next time.

I went here for brunch this past Saturday after making a mental note to stop by a while ago. I’m a fan! I asked my dining companion what he usually got when he ordered, and he recommended the 3 tacos. They are soft tacos, and you can get two ingredients, with some bearing a higher price tag(i.e. specialty meats). He ordered his with bacon and cheddar, and I had mine with queso fresco and spinach.(I’m more adventurous when it comes to choose-your-own ingredients, and I’ve never had queso fresco in tacos before.) Both orders came out piping hot, while we were sipping our coffees — they had 4 flavors when I was there, one of them being Texas Pecan with Vanilla, which was delicious — but don’t let the medium size of the tacos fool you! It was hard for me to finish off that last one, and I had to stop eating the tortillas halfway through the second one. The fillings are generous. The spinach, queso fresco, and eggs was a delicious combination, especially with the green tomatillo-type salsa. I would come back to try the other breakfast taco combinations! And of course, the free refills on coffee.

We purchased a custom birthday cake for our daughter’s 15th birthday and when I picked the cake up yesterday I was in amazement of how wonderful the cake looked. I will admit the cake was a little pricey but well worth it because it tasted delicious. The best cake I’ve ever had(besides the ones my great-grandmother use to make); it was moist, not overly sweet and the ingredients they used tasted fresh. We got the strawberry cake and there were pieces of real strawberries throughout. My daughter was very pleased with the cake. We would definitely use them again for my Grandmother’s 80th birthday cake. Please note the pricing wasn’t disclosed well and when I received the total I was surprised because the menu said one thing but the total was way more. The customer service is okay but I gave three stars because of the quality of the cake. If they had better customer service and conspicuous pricing then they would have received five stars, but the overall experience was worth three. I will still use them for purchasing custom cakes because now I know what to ask to avoid any pricing confusion.

Just had a hot chocolate and beef empanada for breakfast. Quick stop before heading to black Friday sales. Also took a few bites of the monster egg and spinach sandwich he ordered. The hot chocolate is not sweet, made just right. It does take a few minutes for your hot chocolate since it is not instant, slightly higher price tag and it is definitely worth it. They always ask if I would like the empanada warmed up. It is stuffed with corn also, makes a good combination. His sandwich also had pieces of sausage and was Texas toasted. You could easily split for two for light breakfast. Only thing to mindful is make sure to bring cash if you are buying I believe under$ 10. If it’s over that amount you can use your card.

Such a sneaky place hidden right off 59 near Party City. I would not have even thought to stop if I wasn’t told about it by someone else. It’s a bakery with more Mexican-style sweets and baked goods. Came on a Saturday afternoon just for some coffee+sweets with a friend. It was the perfect afternoon tea kind of place! Had an almond cookie, lemon bar, chocolate alfajor, and a mexican wedding cookie. the combination of the 4 satisfied the tart, sweet, chocolate-y, fruit-y, crumbly, smooth textures and flavors we wanted! The alfajor was probably my favorite; the almond cookie had a nice crumble to it that was refreshing and light. The lemon bar wasn’t quite as tart as expected, and it had a smoother texture than normal, not to mention a different height than the usual bar. I still appreciated it though. Mexican wedding cookie was the bottom of the four, but it wasn’t too bad. I’d come back to pick up some cookies for an afternoon tea day.

A simple, local bakery. I picked up a sticky bun this morning, and it was just fine – it could have used a bit more stickiness, though. I wanted to order one more item but couldn’t because I didn’t have enough cash, and they only take credit cards for orders of $ 10 or more.

I tried to go here for breakfast yesterday and was unable to get anyone to acknowledge my presence at the counter. Maybe I’m wrong but it looked like the employees were doing their best to avoid eye contact. The place only had a few customers in it so I’m not sure what’s going on. My friend and I ended up leaving without ordering. I’ve eaten there several times before and generally the food and service has been pretty good(though it’s been a couple of years). I’m giving 2 stars as the average of my experiences.

We were in the area looking for a breakfast place. The Rustika Café was perfect. I had the Ike omelet served with black beans and salsa. It was a large portion and served with toast for $ 10. My husband had the Texan omelette equally tasty and filling. The ambience is quaint with a rustic European feel. The man who took our order was polite and friendly, not overly warm but kind. I noticed some reviews stating the service was terrible — we found it prompt. The coffee was flavorful. I would return if back in West Houston.

I agree with other reviewers that the service was horrible here and the old male’s English was hard to understand. I came here 3 times and every single time I waited for a long time to be served. I was just standing by the counter. I either didn’t see anyone or those who saw me didn’t speak to me at all. It was very frustrating!!! Won’t come back! I ordered a big sheet cake with top selling flavors: strawberry cream(I preferred this one) and triple chocolate. The cake itself was delicious. My husband said their fruits are very yummy and fresh.

I came to this bakery one day afternoon; I wasn’t sure if they can make me a cake for a dinner party in just a couple of hours. After a short discussion of what I wanted my cake to look like, they took the order and informed me that my cake should be ready for pick up at 6:00pm. They are nice people. Cannot describe how happy I was when I saw the cake! It was beautiful! And it was delicious!

**Let me preface this by saying that I used to be in the wedding industry and I can understand making mistakes; however, repeated offenses are just unacceptable!** Being new to Houston, I looked to Unilocal for bakeries that specialized in cakes/wedding cakes. On my first trip, I went into Rustika in-person to place a bday cake order. ordered and paid. smooth transaction. I went in a week later to pick up the cake but they couldn’t find my order when I gave them my name. I couldn’t remember the size that I ordered(left receipt at home) and the manager proceeded to make fun of me for not knowing. Rude but whatever. They ended up giving me someone elses cake and wrote a birthday message last minute(with name of person misspelled). I decided that I’d give Rustika a second chance for my sister’s bday cake. But, this time, I ordered and paid online thinking that there would be no way they would«lose» my cake order. I went in a couple weeks later to pick the cake up. Lo and behold. my cake wasn’t even made! The employee stated that my online order was sent to their spam folder but they could have it ready in an hour. REALLY?! No apologies, nothing. The cake itself was decent. nothing spectacular. This place really isn’t worth the hassle. Whatever happened to customer service and professionalism? Anyways, I apologize for the rant. DON’T WASTEYOURTIME!

Came here for a work lunch-the place was chosen by my boss, who is a big fan. I can see why! I got the Tacos Mexicanos. It came with a side salad-they bring a tasty home dressing to you at the table so you can put on the amount you want. The tacos were fantastic! Two huge tacos with fresh & tasty chicken and veggies, and roasted jalapenos that packed a spice punch. The salsa that came with it was also good. I didn’t try any of the baked goods, but can definitely recommend it for lunch!

The service here is AWFUL. I’ve made three separate orders here on three different occasions and they always manage to make a mistake. Their lack of customer service is saddening since their cakes are pretty delicious. But, for the price you pay and the service that you get you can get an equally delicious cake, if not better, from somewhere else such as Dessert Gallery or Empire Café. T It’s a shame your service sucks, Rustika.
