I recently took five pair of pants to have altered or «tailored» whatever you prefer. I was promptly greeted and asked«would you like something to drink» and I replied yes, I had a coffee. I was very impressed with the hospitality, store layout and décor, I said to myself I’ve found«the place». I sat up front and my coffee arrived shortly after. Before I could finish drinking my coffee I was asked to go back and try on the dress slacks I wanted altered«tailored» so the process began the measuring, making and the question asking in tailor talk for all five pair Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, Express and two Hilfiger one belong to a three piece suit. I explained to him I was looking for a slimmer, British Mod look, I’m still thinking I’ve found«the place». Afterward I meet the gentleman who greeted me and took my measurements at the cash register for pricing and payment. I was a little shocked when he told me it would be $ 230.00 but I’m like ok that’s cool I’m getting them hemmed at the bottom, the legs slimmed out and the sets let out, so ok fine good quality alterations«Tailoring» isn’t cheap, I didn’t mind paying the premium price. This was December 28 I was told they would be ready by January 17. So about three weeks later I returned to pick up my slacks certain they would be perfect. Much to my disappointment they did not achieve the look i was going for, I wanted British mod I got more zoot suit pant look ;-[ I was only pleased with one of the Hilfiger’s that was already a skinny fit so all they had to do was lengthen the legs. So the original gentleman who waited on me was there and immediately begin to help and insisted that I leave them so they could fix he also noticed that some of them that had been marked to be let out wasn’t even touched. They finished them right away the second time so I went back a week later and the gentleman who waited on me this time convinced me that’s what I wanted and I surrendered and left with my pants. So I tried them on for my wife who works with a lot of British guy from their UK office and asked«so do I look like the British guys at you job and before I could get it all out she said NO! which by the way she hates the look. Soooo back they went and making a long story short after three attempts to give me the British Mod look they failed. I don’t believe it’s the guys who were waited on me I think it’s the guys on the sewing machines I just don’t think they get it!!! Because I’m sure if I took them back still they would try to accommodate me but at this point I don’t think I want them stitching on my pants a fourth time. Anyone got any suggestions?

Incredible store, unique shirts and shoes, esoteric items like watches and turntables– the answer to Billy Reid and Ralph Lauren– A plus

Great clothier super cool vibe. Great layout of casual ready to wear to custom made shirts and suits. Nice touch for music instead of pandora or xm they have cool record player playing some cool tunes. I Bought a nice Barbour jacket from the man himself(thanks Sid). Definitely worth your time to stop by.

Solid four stars overall, with five for service. I was helped by a couple of different salesmen, and both were excellent – they were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable without being unctuous or aggressive. As Shohei I. points out in his review, the exterior of the store is rather unassuming, which is perhaps surprising given the tony part of Houston it’s located in. I echo this not as a ding against the store but rather as a heads-up that it doesn’t necessarily stand out physically, so keep your eyes open when en route. The clothing, accessories, and footwear I saw were impeccable and expertly selected and arrayed(because of its unwarranted overuse, I’m usually loath to use the term«curated,» but it’s fully justified in Sid Mashburn’s case). I’d describe their look as «New American” – American classics coupled with a continental(Italian) fit and emphasis on color. These last two are treated earnestly. One final item worth calling out: while in their dressing room, I noticed a small split in the seam near the pocket of the pants I came in wearing(not theirs!). The salesman graciously offered to have it fixed, which their tailor did promptly, giving my pants a fresh pressing to boot.

This store’s been open for two months. Very surprised that no one has written a review. The store is located right across from Lamar High School in the shopping plaza that houses the UPS store and Baskin and Robbins. The store has a very unassuming exterior. I would have totally missed it if I had not been to the original Sid Mashburn in the Westside district of Atlanta. It is an upscale niche-ish menswear /lifestyle store. It mostly caters to those who read GQ religiously. Now that I think about it, I think the store has grown because of the constant exposure it gets in #menswear blogs and magazines. For the lack of better term, I’d say the style of the store is a trendier /less conservative version of Brooks Brothers with better attention to fit. The premise of the store is that you shouldn’t expect clothes to fit perfectly off the rack and are meant to be altered. That’s why they have an in-house tailor that can alter the items to fit you in exactly the way you want. As far as the prices go, it’s not cheap. A good looking suit here costs about 4 grand. Shirts are 150+. They also do bespoke and made-to-measure orders with Kiton and other high-end companies. They mostly focus on their house label but they do carry an assortment of upscale brands that I haven’t seen much in Houston yet. –Alden, Edward Green, Filson, Diptyque(well, this one not so much), Levi’s I think the quality of the house-label, especially the shirts, is a little disappointing. Sure, the fabric may be a little better but it just doesn’t warrant the over-the-top price tag. I feel like you can get decent suits made with Loro Piana or Cerruti for much less if you look in the right place. With that said, the service here is impeccable and that’s reflected in the price. I’d recommend this place if you got that River Oak$ money and are looking to add a little flare to your office attire or to «outfashion» your co-workers perhaps.
