This was seriously some of the best BBQ we’ve had in Houston. The brisket was so tender and had an amazing smoky flavor. My wife and I shared a chopped beef po-boy with their regular sausage on the side. The sausage wasn’t greasy at all, and was cut perfectly. My wife had their heart attack potatoes, that she loved. We also got some fries to share that we couldn’t finish because the portions of everything were so large. All of this was under 20 bucks. We have no complaints about stockyard and will definitely be back!

Food is okay, nothing great. Even mac n cheese n their heart attack potatoes weren’t that big of deal. Not sure what the hype is about. The décor of the building and interior is nice though!

The meat was tender and good but it had a lighter fluid aftertaste. That’s a big no no for me with BBQ. It was so bad that my fingers smelled like lighter fluid after eating the ribs. The sides were just ok… not bad but I’ve had better. Would’ve loved to give them more stars but just didn’t satisfy my craving for good Texas BBQ.

Stock Yard rocks. I love everything they have. Food is always fresh, hot and ready as soon as you get there. No waiting!!! Make sure you try their banana pudding. It is the best I’ve ever had.

First time in Houston from NY. This place had decent reviews and close to my hotel. I ordered the three meat combo(brisket, and 2 types of ribs). Mac n cheese and heart attack potatoes. The meat all just tasted like smoke. Burnt smoke wood flavor is all you can taste and it was real disappointing. Mac and cheese was just okay a bit dry. But the heart attack potatoes were definitely good. I will not come back here again

The meat and sides were good but the sauce here ruins it. It’s watery and tastes like sweet ketchup. It ruined my meal, I should have tasted it before I poured it onto my brisket. Will not be back unless they change their sauce.

I have been here on 3 occasions now and I must say this isn’t a bad place. Not great, but not bad. My first visit I had the brisket sandwich and I really enjoyed it. Meat was juicy and cooked perfectly. The portion was pretty big. On my 2nd visit I ordered the brisket nachos and it was yummy. A must try. 3rd visit the brisket spud. Those potatoes are huge and did not disappoint. We did however order fries and recieved them almost as our meal was completed. The service isn’t that great and you get v the feeling they want you to hurry, order and move on. The portions are pretty big, food is tasty and it’s priced just right.

The brisket is terrible. How does a barbecue place in Texas screw up brisket? No idea, but I can tell you that their beef was not seasoned at all. No salt, no pepper. Every bite I took required smothering of barbecue sauce and even that couldn’t save it. If I could give it zero stars I would, but I can’t. What a shame. Save your money and your time. If you’re craving barbecue drive for an extra 6 minutes down to Woodway and go to The Brisket House. That is where you can find GOOD brisket.

This places has gotten mixed reviews from bbq experts as well as Unilocal’s self-proclaimed bbq experts. I’ve passed by this bbq spot probably 100 times but I finally decided on my day off to try it. I showed up at a very slow time, 3pm on a Tuesday, so I was expecting something great. This counter service place exceeded my expectations. I easily picked out my meal from the screens, a brisket po-boy and homemade fries. I requested brisket from the fatty end and the man behind the counter ended up giving me some excellent Q. I added spicy sauce to the side, but somehow that didn’t translate and it ended up on the sandwich. The fries came out a few minutes later after I had stopped by the fixins bar for pickles onions and jalapenos. For around $ 11, this was an excellent meal and I will definitely be back to try other menu items

Very clean restaurant with decent parking. It may be tough to find parking during peak times. The kitchen looked clean(at 9pm) and there werent too many people in the dining area. I ordered my usual at BBQ joints: two meat plate(double brisket). For the sides I highly recommend the fried okra(only down part is that it is fried from frozen) and the coleslaw. The brisket is tender with a good smokey flavor. A good balance between fat/meat(I prefer a little more fat on my brisket). As always, I use the bread to make a sandwich and the coleslaw inside the sandwich adds a great flavor and tecture dimension. The fried okra is good for previously being frozen and the service is pretty quick. I would highly recommend this place ver Goode.

This wasn’t my original destination but while in the area early evening I thought I’d do a search for dinner before heading back to my hotel. The reviews and photos got me here the BBQ will get me back. Although the parking lot was scary empty when I first arrived there was a steady flow of traffic once I got my food and found a seat in the mostly vacant dining room. This almost cafeteria style BBQ joint didn’t really surprise me or affect my decision to eat here once I walked inside, its apparent that this is a popular style used by a lot of BBQ restaurants in Houston. Since there weren’t many customer I was able to read the menu boards mounted above the serving counter without being hurried and finally settled on a three meat dinner although I expected it to be more food than I wanted to eat, this provided a great opportunity to try a wide selection of their BBQ. My assumptions come to find out was correct the portions are huge as were the selection of those smoked infused meats. Three meats, two sides and a 10 oz glass bottle of cane sugar Coca-cola will run you about $ 21.50. Smoked Turkey — Hand sliced, dry rubbed, moist and tender sliced turkey breast with a almost herb like mild seasoning rub, blends well with the throughly smoked flavor profile you can only get from low and slow cooking. Pork /Beef Mix/Jalapeño Smoked Sausage — A very lean to fat ratio cased smoked sausage that was perfectly smoked to maintain a good moisture content but yet yielded a casing that snaps, also hand sliced to order. Not overly spicy but not for those that prefer milder flavors. Dry Rubbed Smoked Pork Ribs — Don’t expect fall off the bone tender that’s not what makes a great BBQ rib, it was tender enough with a defined smoke ring, a slight outer bark that maintains the slight chewiness St. Louis cut pork rib lovers demand. The dry rub seasoning wasn’t overbearing but provided a distinct flavor that really brings out the accents of the pork. Deviled Eggs —(3) halves flush filled with a semi-moist mayonnaise based filling served chilled with a light dusting of paprika. I only tasted one half of one half it wasn’t bad just the meat portion was so large I really didn’t need any sides. Green Bean — A fairly large helping cooked tender, slightly seasoned, again my focus was on the meat I only tasted these they were just okay in my opinion. The restaurant appeared clean and organized the staff was very friendly and accommodating, I really liked the portions and that all the meats were hand sliced with a knife verse a slicer. I’d definitely return if in the area.

I’m going to skip all my normal review crap and just get right to the food. After all, no one really cares about how a BBQ place looks, if the food tastes great and they have great service. What To Skip: — cornbread(reheated and flavorless) — jalapeño pork & beef smoked sausage(dry and pre-cut into tiny little circles; can I cut my own sausage please? I’m sure that was done for quality control purposes.) What To Try: — I wasn’t a huge fan of the brisket. I know a lot of people said that it was really good and has a nice smokey flavor(smoke ring), but I actually thought the meat had TOO much smoke and not enough seasoning(I found myself reaching for the saltshaker). It wasn’t dry, but it wasn’t very fatty.(Fatty brisket is awesome brisket). I can say that it was very, very tender. A plus. — The heart attack potatoes were on-point. They don’t look like much in the serving warmer, but they were rich, creamy, cheesy, bacony … just everything. Don’t miss those. — The green beans were well-seasoned and actually quite salty. Maybe they could put a little bit of that salt on the brisket instead. Serve and a lot of the cooking liquid, and I actually got a spoon to eat like a soup. — I also really like the sauce, which was quite rich and somewhat sweet. If you’re not into sweet barbecue sauce, you may wish to skip it. Side Note: Portions are huge. But after paying $ 18 for a two-meat, two-side lunch with the bottled tamarind Jarritos soda, there may be better options. I get the impression that this is a weekday lunch crowd type of place. It’s on busy Westheimer just west of Hillcroft and probably does tremendous lunchtime service during the week, where the food changes over quite rapidly and never really has a chance to sit on the serving line for long. I happened to come on a weekend and it seems as if a lot of things were either sitting in a warmer for a bit, or microwaved. I didn’t see them microwave the meat so that’s actually a very good sign. All-in-all will I come back? No. Houston has too many other great restaurants for me to explore, and even though I gave this a three star review, it’s only because there’s not a 2−½ or two or 2−¾ review system.

I tried this place for dinner tonight and it was good. I came in person and ordered the stuffed potato with cheese, chives, bacon, sour cream, and chopped beef brisket. I am used to a BBQ restaurant in Pearland where they literally use an ice cream scoop to pile all the condiments on the spud. I was a little disappointed when I saw how tiny their scooper was. I kept asking for more and more toppings. On the other hand, the staff was great. They could not have been friendlier if they tried. They even let me sample the macaroni and banana pudding to see if I wanted to take a side home. Both were really good, but I knew a potato was more than enough for me.

Don’t forget to grab their Unilocal deal while you can! Makes for a great priced meal! Food: Their sides were amazing! Heart attack potatoes: omg, amazingly delicious! Heart attack worthy! Mac and cheese: delicious! The cheese had a thick sauce Fried okra: small okra balls. Hot and right out the fryer. Literally! Yum! Beef ribs: large ribs with lots of meat! The rub that was on it was a little salty for me, which was a huge bummer, but it was tasty overall. Brisket: was tender but salty also. Décor: Wooden table BBQ joint that had alot of character Service: GREAT! Ever person I encountered was helpful and patient with explaining the group packages and what would go great with the order. Everyone was hands on and helpful Cost: With the Unilocal coupon I was able to feed 4 adults twice! Amazing! $ 40 for 8 meals? Doesn’t get better than that! Overall: I would definitely go back again!

Don’t bother. Not going to waste any significant amount of time describing the mediocrity, rather I’ll tell you what we had. Just skip this place & go see Lepoleon @ the Jackson Street BBQ downtown where they take your BBQ seriously & treat you like you are important — see my review posted. Side note: I haven’t had red meat(anything other than poultry or vegetarian food) for over 20 years & was expecting this to be a shock(in a good way) to my tastebuds. A real let down. 2-way combo, plus additional sides. Smoked pork ribs, smoked boneless skinless chicken breast, macaroni & cheese, heart attack potatoes, potato salad & fried okra. Certainly looked like it would be good, nothing was absolutely disgusting, but it certainly wasn’t memorable in any way, except for the cashier being completely aloof.

I’ll admit that I judged this place when I drove up to the building. For me, the best barbecue has always been at mom and pop small shops and never at big, commercial looking places. Luckily, Stockyard BBQ proved me wrong! I wound up here after visiting another barbecue place who was nearly out of food at dinner time. Since they didn’t have what we wanted, we decided to try stockyard. The first impressive thing was that they had every kind of meat available even at 6pm. My guests loved it because they were able to order any and every thing from the incredible selection– ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage, etc! The food was excellently prepared and the flavor was tasty even without sauce. Portions are unbelievably generous with a plate of 2 meats, 2 sides for $ 15. Sauce comes in mild and spicy– both are delicious. Sides include Mac and cheese, green beans, potatoes, and many more. My guests absolutely loved the food and even went back to compliment the chef and learn his secrets(the brisket takes 20 hours to make!) it was a great experience and i highly recommend for anyone in the Houston area looking for good Texas barbecue!
