This place is probably the best Japanese restaurant in Houston. I personally recommend the Hot Rock Beef. Their edamame is super as well. Another item is the fried calamari. The sauce that comes with it is what makes it fantastic. You should defiantly go here.

I miss Houston, so much! I can’t wait to get back to Sushi King. The food is excellent, fresh and never rushed! Yummy! If you have a taste for rolls, this is the perfect place! I like my sushi raw, so I may venture here(when in town) and a few other spots! Also the staff is very nice, service is wonderful and the establishment is comfortable!

Nooooooo thank you! Came here just bc the friend wanted to have some sushi but he’s a veg head, so we just swung by instead of going to some ritzy place with actual fish(I’m fine with that, I didn’t want to be too picky — mistake). He had the vegetarian special and didn’t like any of it. The hand roll of tempura wasn’t to his fancy and the tofu skin roll was dry, according to him. I had a Hawaiian roll and it was fine. It had imitation crab in it and actually rolled in rice paper, instead of soy paper that it noted on the menu. The fish was alright and there was too much sauce for my liking. No rice in the roll, which is fine, but it wasn’t tightly rolled so almost all of the pieces fell apart before getting to my mouth. The agendashi tofu wasn’t bad, probably the best part of the meal, but it compelled me to walk next door to fat bao… Overall, not worth it. Always be skeptical with places with the name«King» in it.

I haven’t been here in a while, but the sushi is delectable. The service is always fast and the staff has always been friendly. I love the atmosphere –the dim lights make it perfect for a dinner date!

We had to wait almost 20min for the waiter to bring the menu and 20min more for food. The miso soup that I ordered was extremely salty and it barely came with 2 or 3 pcs of tofu. I definitely won’t come back to this place.

I ordered a roll that had lobster tempura and there were only 6 pieces. I understand that it has lobster but if I was paying $ 19.00 I would expect a bit more. The roll came with mango pico de gallo but, it was not on the roll in a little bowl next to it. I felt like it was a little side dish instead of being part of the roll. The roll overall was alright but, could have been way better since we are on Kirby and the high price. Our waiter didn’t even know what type of nigiris my boyfriend ordered. We had to help him and say it for him which was prettyyyyyy funny.

The first time I came the food was amazing and so fresh. I definitely would’ve given 4 stars, but the last time I came, it didn’t live up to the first experience. We were seated in the booths near the windows and there was this horrible stench. It smelt like old dirty carpet or some over expired dairy products. I asked the server to move us and we sat at the bar. The service was not bad, we just ordered our sushi from the sushi chef and our server was attentive. GYOZA– pan fried pork dumplings served with citrus soy These were your average gyozas that you can get at any asian restaurant. There was nothing special about these dumplings that made them stand out. They were nicely seasoned, but not so much so that it would’ve tasted salty or overwhelming when dipped into the sauce. NEMOROLL– spicy tuna and avocado inside, topped with fresh salmon, nemo sauce, and green onion I ordered this roll the first time I came around and it was pretty simple, nothing too exotic or made me feel like, «wow!» but it tasted fresh and I liked the heat with the tuna, the buttery salmon, and creamy avocado. HAWAIIROLL– tuna, white fish, kani, tamago, avocado, cucumber, and masago rolled in rice paper with eel sauce, creamy mayo, and sriracha The first time I ordered this. it was the perfect sushi roll. It was fresh, light, and so flavorful. It didn’t have any rice and was just packed with ingredients. I loved the different types of fish that was combined and the crunchy cucumber and masago, and the savory tamago. The second time around, it didn’t taste the same at all. I was so disappointed. The fish had a fishy odor and it wasn’t as flavorful. It was lackluster and the quality wasn’t there. YAKIUDON– noodles stir fried with beef, napa cabbage, onions, scallions, carrots and shiitake mushrooms This dish of udon was okay. The noodles were cooked perfectly, but the beef was a bit chewy and tough. The vegetables soaked up the flavor and tasted very good and savory. I loved the different textures of the noodles and the vegetables and the different flavors that they bring to the dish overall. REDBEANICECREAM The ice cream had a rich red bean flavor. It wasn’t too sweet and it tasted well with the chocolate drizzle. If my 2nd visit was as great as my first visit then I would’ve kept coming back, but the 2nd visit was just horrible; so I’m going to have to pass on this place from now.

Great service I have never had a problem here. The phở use to be better now it’s warped towards American phở with corn and over boiled egg but they serve great drinks. I recumbent going with a group right before sunset. This place has a great outside coy pond seating area.

I’ve always thought Sushi King was a cheap sushi spot. The name kind of made me think of Smoothie King, so I instantly thought«grocery store sushi.» But this place wasn’t bad at all. It’s located kind of, but not quite on the corner of Richmond Ave and Kirby Dr. in the shopping center behind the Pappacitos, which is actually on the corner. There is plenty of parking available in the parking lot. We went at lunchtime, which is also their happy hour. I don’t know! But anywhere I’m getting a special I don’t ask questions. I base my rating on quality for the price and overall service. The food was very inexpensive happy hour offers a $ 2,4,6,8,10 menu. It wasn’t confusing to read the menu. I just felt like I was doing a lot of back and fort to see what came in each of the rolls; which was fine. I’m guessing they wanted to make the happy hour menu small and keeping the descriptions off was their way of doing so. #Shrugs Our server’s name was Pedro. He gave us very good service and suggested that we ordered certain things off each menu in order to get a better value. I love a server that does that. It was a decent restaurant with decent prices. Also on your first check in on Unilocal. You get a free appetizer. It was a shrimp shumai. It was free so I can’t complain. I’ll come back again I’m sure.

Rare that I give high ratings, but this place sushi king is legitimately some of the best service I’ve had in town. Not necessarily the most amazing dumplings lol But the rock n roll is actually good for the happy hour time. I paid about 12 bucks and ate good and drank good. Just saying. It was a good experience.

Just an average sushi joint in Houston. The fish isn’t especially fresh and your best bets will be the cooked fish rolls. However, the service was decent and the ambiance was nice. There is even a live piano player during the evenings on weekends. However, I won’t be back when there are plenty of other sushi options in town.

I used to come here all the time and never had a bad experience — I’m not sure what happened, but Sushi King shouldn’t have«king» in their title anymore. Kind of tastes like Sushi Peasant. I came here for lunch and the place was pretty much empty. Maybe 1 – 2 other tables, but perhaps they were just eating the side of cantellope or drinking soy sauce. Upon walking in, I was turned off by the smell. It was a combination of toilet water and tar. We sat and ordered our meals, and it just went downhill from there. I am the least picky person on the planet. Seriously. I’ll eat pretty much anything, and I almost finished my meal here because I was so dang hungry and didn’t want to waste my money. A girl’s gotta eat lunch. I ordered the teriyaki chicken bento box with one piece of Tuna on the side — The miso soup came first and it wasn’t bad. A little too salty, but still pretty good. When my meal came, it just looked gross. It’s disappointing enough when your food looks good and tastes bad, but when it comes to the table looking like plastic and tasting worse, it’s a total dud. Chicken was chewy, weirdly cooked, rice wasn’t good, and I never like when my food comes with a weird, cheap side of fruit out of nowhere. Tempura wasn’t good, and everything just grossed me out. I can put it down at lunch, and I couldn’t even get through this meal. It also came with these weird chicken tender looking things, and again, just gross. Tried to drench everything in soy sauce to add some decent flavor and that didn’t work either. The tuna wasn’t bad at all, but the waitor did forget to bring it and I had to remind him. No big deal, but when the place is empty, it shouldn’t happen in the first place. My friend got the bento box with sashimi, and she said it wasn’t bad. Maybe their sushi is half decent, but I still wouldn’t recommend it compared to other places. Take a clue from the emptiness of the restaurant at 1PM when everyone in the Upper Kirby area is heading to lunch. There’s too many other great sushi/Japanese restaurants in the area to settle for Sushi King. Aka’s my #1 and Kata Robata is great as well. I’ll never cheat on Aka again.

Haven’t been here in over 5+ years. The sushi here is average. They didn’t have a lot of special fishes but we were able to order Toro, Kanpachi, Tai, Suzuki, Scallops, and tea pot soup. Service was decent.

While I was originally a little skeptical about a place called«Sushi King,» this place did not disappoint. A friend and I came here after hearing Aka had a 45 minute wait… we called Sushi King and they had a very short wait so we headed right over. The restaurant has a very classy ambience. The night we went they even had someone playing a cello. We were seated at a corner table and got a good view of the restaurant. It is pretty large and has nice décor throughout. Our waitress was so sweet and helped us decide on a few of our plates. We chose the Cowboy, Poseidon, Ferris Wheel and New Age Jalapeño roll. All were so delicious we finished every single bite. I took a look at their happy hour pricing and you cannot beat it! I will be coming back soon!

We came because it was listed on the Rapid Rewards Dining site(honestly) — we were surprised that it was really good. We had 3 rolls — California, Crawfish and the Tiger Eye — the Tiger Eye was by far the best — such a unique and great taste. The crawfish was 2nd — the California was — well just a California Roll — can’t complain. The only thought is that the service was a bit slow for sushi… but we were fine just chatting — however, it did take a LONG time for 3 rolls.

Went on Sunday afternoon with a friend, which is all day happy hour, and it was pretty slow(the food coming out) but it was delicious. Garlic edamame, the catepillar roll, Houston roll and Philadelphia roll with a large sake came out to be about $ 40. Not awful for 2 people. The restaurant is classier looking and becomes a more intimate setting in the evening, when they start placing out the candles. Everything was good and I’ll most definitely return! On the way out, I noticed how extensive their full bar is. Definitely worth checking out next time!
