This is better than Teahouse. I find that any tapioca place is better than Teahouse, actually. Anywho, I used to go here back in the day(had no idea it was one of the first tapioca places in Houston?) about 7 years ago. I used to order their avocado smoothie, hazelnut coffee and french vanilla coffee. It used to be so good! Then for some reason, I stopped going and found other places to get boba. Today, I went with my boyfriend to check it out and decided to get the milk tea and avocado smoothie. The milk tea wasn’t that great, it was actually kinda chocolate-y. I believe that’s due to putting too much milk tea powder in. The avocado smoothie wasn’t as sweet as I remember, but I think she put less sugar this time, so I’m sure if I asked for another scoop of sugar, it’d taste just fine. It was very fluffy and creamy. The boba itself is chewy, but not as sweet or flavored as I like. Still, the texture is better than other places where I find it to be too hard or too soft. All in all, it’s just«OK». If I were to choose between this place and Teahouse, I’d rather go here. Plus, the prices are about $ 2 – 3 per drink, which is VERY reasonable! Is it the best place to get boba? No. But it’s cheap.

*Looks both ways nervously* Having discovered that Houston is the land of boba tea(and Washaterias, and strip mauls), I had to try the shop that Unilocal told me is the original. Jim was of the same mindset as we wandered in. After looking around he changed his mind, but I bravely ventured forth and ordered a Jasmine milk tea. The space looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned since it opened– a thin layer of grime seemed to cover many of the items behind the counter, which were piled haphazardly every which way. And loooordy it was hot in there. The woman behind the counter puttered around, trying to find the ingredients for my beverage. 15 minutes later, after yelling at someone in Mandarin over the phone(unrelated), she apologetically produced my beverage. And it was as good as anywhere else, not better, but not worse. Hence the 3 stars, rather than 2. The ambiance was definitely a 2. I feel like you can tell a lot about a business in C-town by how clean they keep their feng shui items, and theirs were fairly dirty and unkempt. Dust makes bad chi! Ye gads I’m a nerd… Anyway, we hopefully ventured that perhaps they were doing a massive cleaning and reorganizing and that the clutter and grime were only temporary. Still, I don’t think I’ll be back here again without coaxing.

The only thing I have actually tried from this place was the Vanilla Latte with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and tapioca. The first time I tried it, I fell in love with it! Since I’m from California and was in Houston visiting my bf at the time, I was eager to try it and I was not disappointed. Actually, that was the only drink he recommended because that was all he drank there. Good choice! I would come back if I come back in town.

This is the first Tapioca Tea House in Houston!!! The owner sold it to a friend and she runs it now. They have the best recipes with fresh fruits and vegetables. It is a very small place. Not a place I recommend hanging out but they do have free wifi. If you want to try the best in Milk Tea and fresh fruit smoothies goto Suzhi! I recommend the Taro Milk Tea or the Avocado Milk Tea. They are made from real avocado or taro! It is definitely a place to try when you want good Tapioca or Milk Tea.

Suzhi’s was once my favorite bubble tea in Houston, then I thought it sucked, now I think it is good again… at least it was good the last time I visited. Mostly, I appreciate the ease of conversation I enjoy with the people that work there. Sure, their English is often broken but that is way better than something like Teahouse(Kirby & Shepherd) that has annoying white kids trying to be cool taking my order. The tapioca itself was indeed the best I have had in a long while. Too many places are tough and extra chewy. These guys were firm yet easily breakable once you bit in. They were really the perfect compliment to my peppermint black tea(no milk). I don’t know what Connie is talking about, though, as the ambiance is lovely. I call it post-modern decorative disorder(pomo dedi for hipsters out there). It looks like your crazy senile aunt Betty decided to open a business and then proceeded to collect boxes, fans, newspapers, and cats and then make some mean tapioca. Suzhi’s is still not my favorite, but at least they did not fall off of the cliff like so many of my other established places have.

The bubble tea is quite good at Suzhi’s; I think the tapioca is perfect and I normally don’t like the large tapioca. Soft, but not mushy, and firm but not chewy. I favor the red bean and taro milk teas at all times. In terms of ambiance, I think this is more of a get your bubble tea and run kinda place. I was really put off by the stacks of jugs, jars and bowls piled up in the sink. I think they were all clean, but they were stacked up in such disarray. if the food preparation area is going to be in plain sight, I want it to be immaculate. For this reason, I would really give Suzhi’s 3.5 stars, but since the tapioca texture is perfect, I’ll round up.

Suzhi was, I believe, the first bubble tea in all of Houston. I started going here around 2000, so I wasn’t yet accustomed to the 200+ item menu of other area teahouses. The quality is consistently pretty high. The flavors aren’t as all-encompassing as other locations, but they have all the fruit and bean flavors plus taro, chocolate, etc. The tapioca is usually perfect, though sometimes they’re a bit al dente for my taste. I still come back, partially for nostalgia, and partially because the lines aren’t crazy long like other area teahouses. It’s definitely worth a visit.

Not a bad milk tea place. Not as good as the best, but certainly not bad. Pretty standard fare.
