I absolutely love the steak nights here! I’ve been twice, and I have to say this is one of the best steak nights in Houston. They’ve got a tender, moist steak with a chimichurri sauce on top. I’m not sure what it is, but the steak has a great sweetness to it. It’s garnished with some mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and pineapple, which complements everything perfectly. Only down-side I’d say is it’s kind of dark and small — too dark for my tastes at least. If you’re not at the bar, it’s kind of hard to see the person right in front of you if you’re there to sit and talk.

I went here with a group, we wanted a relaxed spot. Well, it was definitely relaxed. It was very dim, we had to use our cell phones to read the menu. I tried the food because of all the reviews. It was Saturday, that have limited items depending on the day. I was able to try the spring rolls and dumplings. I loved the dumplings, wasn’t much of a fan of all the goat cheese in the rolls. I do have to compliment them on their drinks. The cherry limeade drink they had was delish. I think it could be a nice spot for a date. This spot is way too tiny for a group.

I wouldn’t call this place a gastropub. I dive bar at best. Went here on a Tuesday — steak night — cool thing as I thought. The steak was meh, at best, good portion but it was dripping wet from whatever sauce they used. The sides were okay, until I saw a piece of hair in the corn … check please. The female bartender got my beer quickly, but spent a lot of time chatting with others to notice that my glass was empty. I finally got my second glass of brew, but I will not be returning here anytime soon. I work suggest you check out other joints in the area.

Here from Out of town and read the high reviews of Tuesday night steak night. It’s all they serve and it was honestly amazing. It was very juicy with great sides. The bartenders were very friendly too, definitely coming back. Highly recommend!

A group of us came in near midnight, starving after a day at a convention. Lucky for us, it was $ 2 taco Wedneaday. I couldn’t have imagined that the tacos would be as freaking delicious as they were. Between our group, we tried every flavor and everybody was incredibly happy. Plus, they’ve got beer and cocktails and no credit card minimum. Total A in my book.

This is what I was looking for tonight, a relaxed bar, a glass of wine, outdoor seating, a cool breeze, good company and… TACONIGHT! Wednesday is the night to enjoy 2 dollar tacos! Black bean, spinach with sautéed onion… Deelish! I will absolutely be back!

Very empty early on a Saturday night — apparently it’s more of an industry place so doesn’t get hopping til late. Drinks were great, nachos the perfect accompaniment and the bartender was sweet and friendly.

So when arriving i really can’t say anything bad because bartender was quick, funny and made a kickass drink. Not only was the alcohol on point, but the food was killer. Omgeezy! This place is a definite spot to return too.

My friend took me here for their Burger night. Pretty freakin’ amazing. We ordered two of their famous drinks, I forgot what they were called, but one was made using Vodka and their own Ginger Beer, the other was made using Rum and their own Ginger Beer. My friend highly recommended that I try just their Ginger Beer by itself, so the bartender poured us both a shot of the brew… I was blown away. Burgers themselves, very very solid. The patties were thick, and the ingredients were fresh to the taste, and it was awesome that they mix sweet potato fries with regular fries. You get the best of both worlds. Add the fried egg and you won’t be disappointed. I’m going back for steak night, too excited to get their drinks again.

Wait wait. What? I never reviewed Community Bar? That place is my jam. Tuesday steak night offers one of the best in town. A ribeye on the grill — sometimes bone-in ribeye — with a side of Merlot mushrooms, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, jalapeño pineapple … And the Community Nachos are a must. And the funnel cake with Blue Bell ice cream. Music playlist is good. Barkeep friendly. Chill patio. If you find street parking, watch out. I have a few friends that’ve gotten their cars broken into. NOT the bar’s fault, obvi, but just a warning.

Rating for steak only would be 5 stars. It’s a GREAT Steak Night. You get a perfectly cooked rib eye with a flavorful chimichuri, amazingly carbolicious mashed potatoes and heavenly creamed corn. There is even a bit of sweet grilled pineapple. TDF. The service and drinks? Womp womp womp. At the advice of other Unilocalers, I did not get my favorite Moscow Mule, but instead got the Dark and Stormy. Don’t. Just. Don’t. The drinks are horrible. I went to tell the bartender that I would like to simply order a glass of wine to go with my steak and she immediately snaps, «I can’t take that back!» referring to the abysmal drink. I told her that’s fine, I’m a big girl and I can deal. However, I was so taken aback by her lack of customer service.

This place gets 5 stars for the price during happy hour(2 $ domestics) but didn’t blow me away overall. I love a good dive bar and can’t remember the last happy hour that I enjoyed the deal so much… I can’t remember the last time I had a 2 $ beer PERIOD. No food/appetizer happy hour and the nachos I ordered left much to be desired(one big dry pale pile of very sad chips) for the 10 $ range. I would go back again for beers during happy hour — and I think the patio is dog friendly . Why not 4 stars? I wouldn’t go back unless it was specifically happy hour and was not blown away… more indifferent… Still searching for that steals a place in your heart dive bar here in Houston(Montrose/midtown area)

My mom and I went here Wednesday night and really loved it! They have their own parking which is a plus because parking can be a pricey nightmare. The bar wasn’t crowded at all and the restaurant itself is small and cozy. We ordered the skinny margarita and a Moscow mule, both were great! We shared the heated situation drink which has a pretty big kick to it, if you’re not into spicy I do not recommend. The goat cheese spring rolls are BOMB! Friend to perfection. We each had some tacos because of 2 $ taco night and they were pretty good– not amazing but hey they’re cheap! Overall really liked the place, staff is friendly and the atmosphere. Will be returning soon!

My friend wanted to come here for steak night, so I agreed. I had never heard of this place before and he said the steak was good, so I agreed. For $ 16, the steak was a decent size and cooked just right — medium rare — and came with mashed potatoes, corn, pineapple, mushrooms, and some chimichurri sauce. Steak wasn’t bad for the price and the mashed potatoes weren’t bad either. The other sides were just a miss. It wasn’t that great and they gave 2 small pineapple pieces. Why even put it on the plate? We sat outside and if you wanted something, you’d have to get up and ask for it yourself. You won’t find anyone outside giving you service. So if that’s what you’re looking for, just sit at the bar. They don’t have a food menu either, so I don’t know what else they offer.

Old School Sundays! Amazing! The bartender was rocking the best playlist while we were there on Sunday. He had all 90’s hip hop playing the entire time we were there. He said it was his normal music for Sundays. We came in late hoping they were still serving food and had some great selections that were amazing when they came out. We found out the kitchen is open until 1:30am every day they are open. Drinks were good! We all had the Moscow Mule and I had the spicy margarita which both were delicious! We will be back for sure!

Came on steak night on tuesday twice now. The steaks are big and good. You get mash potatoes and corn. Its worth it. The place is small but it also has outdoor seating. Easy place to eat, relax, and have a few drinks.

True hole in the wall establishment on Smith street. Very casual place to hang out. there is some parking around it but the rest is street parking. Went yesterday for Tuesday steak night, not sure what the compliments in previous reviews were for. We walked in and we were hit with a wave of cigarette smoke. Bar door left open and smokers might as well smoke inside. Walked up to the bar and was looking for a menu. Bartender said order here, no menu. No price list. So I predict that cost of alcohol can vary from one day to another & one person to another. Did I mention this place was casual? We ordered the steak and it comes with fixed sides, we saw the grill near the back and two guys were running around to cook & serve people. We wanted a seat inside but it was so dark we probably not able to see the food. We sat out and no one comes and asks if you need anything. This is a leanly loose run operation. The money they can make with a few touches of improved service and efficiency. but why use brain power. Anyhow. We got our steaks and they were both cooked medium rare. It was ok for the price, mine was greasy & salty. I didn’t care much for the cheesy mash. I won’t come back again. But now I can cross this one off my list :) This a 2.5 star hole in the wall, poorly lit place to smoke & eat greasy salty steaks on tuesday night. Thumbs down.

I was scrolling through my check in’s and just realized i’ve never written a review for Community! For shame. I love so many things about this place. The bartender is awesome. He can make you anything your little heart desires. They do have beer but not a huge selection. They lean more towards cocktails made with fresh ingredients and fruit infused vodka’s. Their cheeseburgers are stupid good. Like don’t even go anywhere else y’all. Now, let’s talk about what made me fall in love with this place: Goat. Cheese. Eggrolls. Shut. UP. The first time I experienced them I was with Rachel B. and Mike W. drunker than shit. I needed fried food and that is what I ordered. I woke up the next morning thinking about these egg rolls, but i didn’t know if I was just super wasted or if they were really just that good… I’m happy to report that I have ordered them 3 – 4 times since then and wasted or not, they are gooooooood. If you like goat cheese and unconventional ingredients, order them. I swear to christ you will not regret it.

Their Tuesday steak night ISTHEBOMB. $ 17 for a HUGE ribeye(I think it’s like 12+ oz) with creamy corn and taters as well as chimichurri sauce on the side. You have to order your drinks from the bar, and the beer selection is small and limited to bottles, but at least they offer more than your typical lite beers. The seating areas are pretty small — well, the bar in general is small, so if you have a big group, go a little early. The seating areas, particularly inside, are not very efficient as far as how they use the space, but whatever. They do have TVs inside over the bar, and they do show quite a bit of hockey(y’know, if you’re into that: P).
