The bartender was drunk and rude. The service was terrible. We had a glass of red wine that was warmer than room temperature. We were warned about the service from friends but thought we could handle it. We will never be back here again.

Love that Sweet Berry Wine! The Corkscrew is such a cool spot. Whether you go for happy hour, for dinner, or just to hear some great live music, you’re pretty much guaranteed to have a good time… and probably a glass of five of some really delicious wine. Atmosphere: casually charming & relaxed, w/plenty of indoor & outdoor seating, and a room specifically equipped for live music nights. Note — when deciding just how casual to dress, err on the side of «nice casual» — shorts are great, but maybe not the same pair you’ve worn everyday since High School. Service: It can be hard to flag down servers during busy times(especially on nights when there is live music), and they may forget a drink or two, but overall they are friendly and polite, so no major issues. Drinks: Excellent wine list offered by the bottle and by the glass(perfect for large groups that drink different varietals or a group that really only wants a glass or two), as well as a pretty solid beer list & menu of specialty cocktails. Food: Pizza is the item to order — thin crust, creative topping combinations, and they are definitely big enough for two adults to share as a «light» meal. Parking is easy & free(private lot), just one more reason to check out The Corkscrew if you love wine & if you love a good time! Cheers!

Sexist and racist bar. I walked in with a sleeveless shirt. Both bartenders three other guests as well as another member of my party were all in sleeveless shirts. I was told ’ this is a white bar and you have to have at least at shirt on. At check out they charged me $ 40 for the $ 30 bottle of wine purchased. I’m a white male and will never return to this bar. I recommend you don’t support them either. There are plenty other good wine bars!

Cute wine bar with friendly staff. The power was out while we were there but they made the best of it. We were served and they offered what they could from the kitchen. I’ll definitely have to try it again when the power is back on. =)

Ick. First clue should have been almost empty on a Thursday night of nice weather. Everywhere else was packed so we thought might as well try. Pizza only passable, wine cheap and tasted so. We will stick to Plonk, Shepherd Park, and Southern Goods. Don’t waste your time.

I went here on a Saturday night a couple of weekends ago to catch up with two friends, and we had a wonderful time! I was not hungry, but my friends each ordered a pizza and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a glass of wine and just enjoyed the ambience and being able to catch up with my friends. It was so nice to be able to walk in there with no reservation on a Saturday night because those are rare places to find in the Heights!

Love this place. If you’re looking for great wine, atmosphere, food, and live music then this place needs to be on your short list of establishments. Great staff as well!

I’m not sure whey I haven’t been here before in all my years in Houston, but I thought I would give it a whirl. We popped in on Friday around 630, just in time for one happy hour drink. They have a good sized happy hour menu with decent prices, not anything crazy cheap, but reasonable. We also were starving so we got a pesto pizza, hummus place and cheese plate. The cheese plate was excellent, the hummus was hummus, and the pizza was good. Service started off strong, then our bartender disappeared(we were seated at the bar) and the other two didn’t really check on us until it was obvious we were done. Not the end of the world, since I didn’t want another glass of wine. All in all, I would def. stop in for a glass of wine or happy hour.

Meh. There’s so many other awesome places in the heights, why go to this overpriced strip mall wine bar? I just don’t get the appeal…

I’ve always loved coming to the corkscrew, it was the first place I had ever seen wine on tap. Their selections are of a wide variety and I’ve had the owner, Andy, personally help and recommend the perfect bottle/glass any time he’s been asked by my crew or myself. Great for girls night or date night, we’ve split the cheese plates and pizzas and they’re delicious every time. Awesome live music but I do advise sitting either by the bar or outside if trying to converse, if there to chill and take in the tunes — definitely sit by the band/performer. Writing this review makes me miss this place and am absolutely planning on going back ASAP.

Fantastic food, fantastic wine selection, reasonable prices and an unpretentious hang. What could be better except, wait for it… Live jazz bands on Friday and Saturday nights in their piano lounge with no cover!!! If you’ve been to Cezanne, you’re hip to the quality of music that will be on rotation here starting in August. Listening room/jazz club environment with a focus on piano & vocals. Swanky and super fabulous for a date night. Dinner, live music and spectacular wine all in one place! A great way to make an evening sparkle. ;) their jazz calendar is online at

I’ll give this place another shot. There was no piano player, instead it was 80s dj night. The service was slow, and at 9 pm the tables were too dark to see the menu. Don’t get the Cru Pinot noir if you like dark and bold red wines. Slingshot Cabernet was AMAZE. I’ll come back bc I’ve heard it’s awesome regularly. So 3 out of five — ps arugula and cranberry pizza is BOMB

The Corkscrew always offers a good time. Group happy hours, weekend patio/day drinking, date night — especially on weekends when they offer live music in the piano lounge. Actually, that’s the best thing about The Corkscrew, is piano man Nick Greer and the backup band of rotating musicians. If you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary or just wanting to hear live tunes, def check ‘em out on a weekend. And some of the best news yet, Chef Bob — formerly from Community Bar — is in the kitchen, so you know the grub is good. There aren’t any amazing happy hour specials, but the mix of good wines by the glass, parking, patio and food, it’s a great little watering hole.

Such a cute, cozy and romantic spot! I love the quotes on the wall. They have great wine, beer, and cocktails. Their peachy keen is very good. I love their cheese and salami platter and I love their pizzas. The prosciutto and cranraisins is a great salty and sweet combo. Never thought I’d like it on a pizza! On Fridays they have live music but if you sit on the side with the bar, it isn’t too loud for great conversation!

I met up with some girlfriends a few weeks ago. Corkscrew is a quaint wine bar with live music. On this particular night, Matt was playing piano. He was good and was playing cover songs, but because of the small size of the place, it was incredibly loud. It was hard to have a conversation with some of the people at my table. I didn’t order any food, but it did look good(pricey though). I had a cucumber mint cocktail which was $ 11. It was good, but again a little pricey. This place is easy to find and has it’s own parking lot which is nice. I’m not sure if it’s a place that I would visit often because the menu is limited and pricey, but my visit was fine.

Great wine selection. Great Napoli style pizza. Live piano lounge music. Be sure to check out there steak night every Tuesday. Best steak night in town. $ 17 gets you a giant ribeye top with shrimp and chimichurry. Side of mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms. Magnifique!!!

Bar food — it’s ok. Service is super slow. Appetizer came out with meal. Sent appetizer back. Staff is ok. Kind of stuck up but what else is new. Probably won’t be back. Nothing stands out enough to make me remember this place.

Fun live music, delicious think crust pizzas, good wine, friendly regulars — this place has much to offer. Corkscrew has had some identity issues over the years — at first it was a cool wine bar, then it added liquor, and now it’s more like a live music venue. But what it has not lost at any point is its casual and laid-back atmosphere which attracts cool and loyal regulars. Generally, the drinks rail against the current trend in both wine and liquor. For liquor, don’t expect burnt orange peel and maple bacon infused vodkas. They have a large selection of scotch, and they’re happy to serve it to you straight up or with some ice. You probably won’t get a crazy funky Chinon in your glass, nor someone who will wax poetic about a french farmer’s detailed plowing technique to create it, but you’re bound to find a generous pour of a big, tasty California chardonnay or zin to wet your whistle. Some things to note — the crowd here runs a bit on the baby boomer generation side of things on the weeknights, which is nice when you are looking for a quiet evening out. I think things get a bit rowdier during the weekends, but I can’t speak from experience. Fun place. Fun times.
