Maryan did a good job highlighting my hair, I went to another salon a week before and asked for coloring it, I have a very dark hair and I wanted to change it to light brown but it didn’t change at all, then I decided to change my salon and found lasalon, it is in the village and very close to my home, this time I asked for highlighting my hair, and I’m perfectly happy with the result.

I had a great first-time experience here a few weeks ago. I was in Houston visiting family and had a little downtime. I desperately needed a trim, and saw on Unilocal that this place was super close to my dad’s house and had good reviews. I called and they had an appt open later that day. My stylist, Maryan, was awesome. Very sweet lady who didn’t once try to upsell me(I asked for a haircut only, no styling since it cost extra and I was just going home). Never tried to sell me product or anything else, either. I found that so refreshing! My hair is very curly and can be tricky, but she did a wonderful job giving me a cute, low-maintenance summer cut. Everyone who saw me the next few days raved about it. This was weeks ago, and I’m still receiving compliments. The price was good, she was very kind and professional and fast, and I was thrilled with my haircut. I’m sad that the place was empty when I went – I hope it was just a weird time. Great little find in West U.

I got possibly the best haircut of my life at this salon. I came in with an ugly, curly mess and walked out feeling like a celebrity about to walk onto the carpet. I gave my stylist very little instruction — just that it is our anniversary and I wanted to look nice — and the result is stunning soft, romantic curls. I came in with a Groupon and will happily pay full price for a cut and style for as long as I live in the city. Not to mention the location is very convenient! I will definitely be styling my hair more often with this awesome cut. Bottom line? My hair is cute, professional, feminine, and red carpet worthy. Five stars all the way around.

When I moved to Houston from Austin a few months ago, I left behind more than just my friends & a great city I called home — I left the hair stylist I’d trusted for over 4 years. It had taken me a long time & some horrendous cuts before I found my Camille, so it wasn’t surprising that I was anything but excited to begin my search for a new stylist here in Houston. With a home still for sale in Austin & a budget that doesn’t take much to bust, I set out to look for an «affordable» salon here. I hate to break it to y’all, but it turns out that there simply aren’t any. However, I DID find that Village La Salon in Rice Village offered the option to get JUST a cut, without a style — for under $ 50. Satisfied with my thrifty choice, I booked an appointment — I called on Wednesday and they were able to get me in Friday afternoon like I’d requested. The salon is located right in the middle of Rice Village, which means that parking is a total cluster. It is nestled between some retail shops and the décor reminded me of a family salon I’d frequented while studying abroad in Rome — faux marble columns, mod furniture — a mish mash of all sorts of things that makes the place feel like you could be somewhere in Europe, circa 1993. A man greeted me with an accent and my Euro-vision was complete. Mari, my stylist, was a warm Iranian woman with an obvious sense of style. I was intrigued about what was about to happen. Mari turned out to be the owner of the salon, which had been in business at the same location for 16 years. As I watched her work through my hair, my thoughts drifted back to Rome again and the 50+ year old man who had cut my hair with such deft moves that I couldn’t even keep up with what he was doing. She indicated that she was going to cut off about 1″ — 2″ from my long hair. As she swiftly moved all over my head, I saw chunks up to 4″ coming off. I was starting to get nervous. But I remembered what a masterful cut I’d received in Rome and kept my trap shut. I knew better than to interrupt a master in the midst of their creation. At some point I probably should’ve piped up though — because before I knew it, Mari had the hairdryer out and was whipping up some large waves that reminded me of spun cotton candy. My head was saying, «No, stop her from styling! This is costing you $$!» But by that point I was so caught up in the European fantasy that I let her keep going. Besides, an artist can’t be asked to leave their work incomplete, right? I left the salon with a wallet $ 85 lighter, and a big, bouncy bouffant. My mom would have LOVED it. I’m sure anyone from the baby boomer generation would have loved it. But I was definitely not in love. Not yet anyway. The next day I showered & let my hair air-dry as I normally would on the weekend. And as it dried, I discovered the mastery that had been hidden under my cotton candy swirls. Mari had exposed beautiful waves like I’d never seen before in my hair. She had layered it so expertly that my hair was doing things I’d never though possible without product or irons or a team of hair artists. It feels lighter, healthier, and so much easier to style(or not style, I suppose). The only reason I knock off one star is for the styling that I didn’t really like nor request. Otherwise, this was a 5-star experience.

So, it’s a brisk Saturday morning in Texas and I had hair in need of service. I called the day before and was able to get a 12 o’clock appointment with Bibi for the next day to get my tresses reworked. I cut my hair shorter about a month and a half ago with my other stylist, but just didn’t feel like she interpreted the cut the way I wanted it completely. I let the hair rest and tried to figure out what was wrong and realized it needed to be a bit shorter, so alas here I was at Village La Salon. I got there a bit early so I could check out the other clientele, but to my dismay there was only one other person there besides myself and the hairdresser?!? I got a little worried, because if there are no customers than that means the service must be crap, right? Not so! Bibi shampooed me and then led me to her chair and immediately went to work. I told her what I was looking for and she even suggested a couple things to make the cut have more movement and shape and she was so right! She worked quick and was blow-drying and styling my hair in no time. She did a once over with the scissors afterwards to catch any strays(which honestly there really weren’t any). I was in and out in probably about 30 minutes which I love because my other stylist is usually so over booked that I’m there a minimum of an hour even for just a cut. Total cost was $ 65(minus the tip), but well worth it when you compare what some of the other area salons charge for just a cut without styling. P. S. I later found out the rest of the staff just didn’t have appointments booked for the day due to the cold weather I guess, and the owner was out of town for a family emergency… so that helped calm my nerves. ;-)
