I used to love Huntington Beach because it was a typical California Beach town. Now it’s a very commercialized beer town. There are some good eateries, but downtown is all lights and beer specials.

I have mixed feeling about writing a review on downtown HB. Being a resident for several years, I have seen the changes. During the week, it’s fun to walk Main St. You can caught a nice meal, and then walk it off in the pier. During the summer, and special events-turns into mayhem. It would be much nicer if they closed vehicle traffic on Main Street, and let it be open to foot traffic-no sense cruising on this small stretch of street. On Tuesday nights, they close the street off for a Farmers Market. I usually like to sit at Starbucks, and people watch with a cup of java. Police presence is very evident.

Huntington Beach’s Downtown is what makes this city so special! HBDT has the perfect combo of shopping, restaurants, bars, and hangout space. The streets are always buzzing, no matter the time of day. And even though HB feels very residential and a bit suburban, the DT keeps the city fun & the weekends busy. The collection of businesses are awesome, and my personal faves are YogaWorks, North Shore Poke Co, Zimzala, & Diane’s Swimwear. There’s a pretty decent day & night bar scene too, with several of the popular spots perched on the 2nd level patios of the DT buildings. Lastly what’s better than a DT just steps from one of the best stretches of SoCal beach??? Cross PCH and dig your toes in some of that beautiful HB sand & watch those big blue waves roll in!
