I’m officially a fan. Just went to another unnamed poke place in the area last night and was unimpressed. So I’m glad I found Poke Island. The salmon was very fresh, and the staff seemed organized and accomodating to my custom order. With this new wave of Poke joints where you can mix and match bases, fish, add ons and sauces, I can appreciate the staff’s competence. They get 5 stars from me and this is officially my new spot!

This is my second favorite poke spot in the HB/Westminster area. Their servings of fish are generous but their choice of protein is a little smaller than some other poke places on the area. The price is right on point with other spots and they are friendly and getting faster every time I go in

Plenty of parking in the Walmart Plaza. Great Poke Bowls. The way you order is just like at a Subways or Panda Express(i.e choose your salad or rice or a mix –choose a fish — choose toppings — done!) There’s a big, easy to read menu behind the counter, and remember to speak loudly! a Poke Bowl with 3 scoops of fish is ~$ 9.85, makes for a great healthy lunch(and leftovers for that afternoon snack). The fish is always fresh(and especially their avocados too), and their sauces are great. I would come back again.

Good! Just be conscious that the prices are a little bit on the high end, but it’s worth it for some pretty fresh seafood. Love their collection of sauces and options to mix them. Plus, service is great.

My first time ever coming here and my mind is blown! I’m a die hard sushi lover and these bowls are waayy better value for the money! One specialty roll at any sushi restaurant is the same price. I LOVE that they give you a choice of a «base» being either rice, greens, or chips. I chose spring mix I thought that would be a more refreshing choice(and lower carbs!). They’re fish quanity is perfect, and you can even add extra scoops for $ 2.50 more. I already can’t wait to go back and try more

My first time having a poke bowl and it was delicious! I had the spring mix, brown rice, ahi tuna, salmon, spicy tuna, seaweed, onions, cucumber, ginger, green onions, pineapple with HB sauce! OMG! My new favorite place!

This place is absolutely delicious and the price is perfect. For about $ 10 you can get a monstrous sized salad with rice and 3 fairly hefty scoops of fish. I always do the ahi Poké and the spicy tuna. That combined with the HB and Volcano sauce, I am obsessed. My girlfriend and I will share a salad bowl and pay for an extra scoop of fish. With avocado and extra fish it comes out to less than $ 14 and we leave absolutely stuft. It’s our favorite Sunday late lunch spot to hold us over until dinner. I wish I could eat here every day. Fish = insanely fresh Portions = more than you ever see at Poké spots Price = Very very fair for the amount of fresh food you get Service = always friendly Location = easy to park and access Overall quality = as good as I’d ever want

AMAZINGPOKEBOWLS!!! Can’t help but worry about the worlds depleting tuna supply tho :/and all the Dolphins and turtles that die in the tuna nets. Makes me feel guilty about loving poke so much. Being from Hawaii Ive loved raw fish since I was a little child eating it with Poi, Kalua pig, lomi salmon and pipikaula So I adore this place

Best poke experience I’ve had so far! Excellent fish portion and portions of everything overall. I got 4 scoops of salmon and everything on it over a base of spring mix.

This place is pretty tasty. It’s a chipotle-ish style poke place. I like the flavors. Fish is fresh and doesn’t taste fishy. I wish there was more fish for the price. For the regular, you get 3 «scoops» of fish. The scoop is the size of a medium cookie scoop so… I would say 1.5 tablespoons of fish x3. Which isn’t enough for the mountain of rice they serve you. I love all the mixes and toppings but there wasn’t enough fish. The pineapple adds a sweet note which I loved. My only complaint about this place is that there’s not enough fish. You can mix the sauces which is great. I got the big surf and the volcano. They don’t have anything majorly spicy. Which is fine, there’s sriracha. The staff is very nice and they work quickly. I feel like I’m on a set of a Hawaiian TV show. That cheesy type Hawaiian décor. I dig it. I’m all about that cheese.

This was my first Poke experience and it was a very yummy one! For those uncertain of what this is. it’s basically a sushi bowl and you put your bowl together like you would an order at Chipotle. Pick your base, fish, filling, sauce and add-ons It helped that I followed a couple in, so I was able to watch them and learn that way too. but they have boards to help you and the staff at this place VERYVERYNICE!

There seems to be a poke place these days on every block. And it can be very difficult to tell which places are really good vs really not good aka food poisoning likely! After all, poke is raw and often masked by heavy sauces or flavors like spicy tuna or spicy mayo so it can be hard to detect if it isn’t super fresh. This place was actually decent! I am not familiar with the area but was taking a CPR class at Huntington Hospital next door and needed to grab a quick delicious lunch. The poke and flavor combinations were standard. At first I felt like the scoops of fish were small, but then I realized the bowl was just very large. The lady who helped me was either the manager or owner and was very informative. She made great suggestions on best flavors to try and sauces etc. Afterwards, I was eating in the restaurant and I heard her training some of the new staff. I liked that she emphasized quality and authenticity of her products, and she was really taking the time to train her employees to provide great service to customers. It was quite refreshing to overhear this. Overall, 3 stars for standard poke but + 1 star for great service and heart! One suggestion I have is to increase the drink selection to include the Hawaiian drinks like the canned guava ones :)

Saw these guys across from Walmart a few times and finally decided to give it a shot. I’m from Hawaii(born and raised), so it probably takes a lot to wow me in the poke department. This was my first poke bowl experience. It’s kind of like chipotle, picking your contents in an assembly line. Being from Hawaii I feel I need to comment on the quantity because as you know Hawaiians are big eaters. The quantity is a bit lacking, I could probably put away about 5 of these and still find room for some dessert but with a bowl costing 12 bucks or so I’d pass. I don’t know how much fresh fresh is costing now days so it may not be entirely them, as I have noticed the price of fish soaring since back in the day. It’s a good pupu/starter though. The quality though I have no complaints about. Imo it’s hard to mess up poke unless the fish is super old. I’d probably eat here again.

poke island deserves 5 stars. Its clean, employees are friendly & quick. Food is fresh. Heck, even a free drink with Unilocal check in. Order the regular poke bowl, you can mix and match the bases & fish(spring mix & white rice) fishes salmon, tuna & spicy tuna are my faves. If you mix the salads with the rice they put it in a bigger bowl. The hb & kona sauce are delicious mixed and they top it off nicely with masago, crab meat, green onions, sesame seeds, seaweed, wasabi, ginger. Careful not to confuse the greens for wasabi or else you’ll cry :) crab meat is included. I didn’t want mine so the employee added the scoop onto my mom’s bowl without me suggesting it. avocado portions are huge, only a difference of a dollar. They dont accept tips cause they are happy to serve us. I’m a regular!

Ok, so I’m a little late jumping onto the build-your-own poke bowl bandwagon. I’ll admit that when I hear poke, all that comes to mind is cheap sashimi. Really, they pile on all the sauces and stuff to mask the fact that the fish isn’t super fresh enough to be sashimi as you’d get at a premier sushi restaurant. That being said, same goes for sushi rolls, which I like from time to time. See, I’m not a total sushi snob. Anyway, getting back to this place … Huge portions, even the regular size is pretty big, bigger than one other place I’ve been to! Love that they have kale as a selection. A lot of flavorful mixes and sauces. The guys are super friendly! Super reasonable! Ya, you might get 6 super fresh pieces of salmon sashimi for $ 10 but here for the same amount, you’ll get 3 scoops of chopped up raw fish of your choice with fresh veggies, rice and stuff that’s super filling. Pretty good, if ya ask me. Cool that they’re on my way home from work! Cheap, yummy, healthy takeout!

I kept trying to give this place a try because this is the closest poke place next to my job that’s quick and easy to grab during my lunch break. But every chance I give, it fails in some way. They don’t shove white onions down my throat anymore! HURRAYYY!!!(See previous post on that rant) +1 Star Quality of fish is getting worst by the visit. Do they not train people how to cut fish? Do they also not train employees how to scoop? He scooped one fish at a time with the scooper then when he felt like that was too much fish he scooped one fish back out. Back to where the rating was once again. –1 Star I swear I always encounter a bad experience with this owner to the point I check to see if she’s present or not before I walk into the restaurant. I gotta prepare myself when she is there though. I thought I was the only person who thought she’s super condescending and stingy like when she questioned my choice of not wanting white onions. She went from being generous and pushy about white onions to cheap and still pushy about everything else. She should be grateful she’s in HB instead of little saigon where there’s a ton of poke places cause she’ll be closed ASAP. I don’t hate this place… if I did I wouldn’t even come back at all. But I honestly would rather be 5 – 10 minutes late to work heading to other poke places closer to the beach. Sadly, I don’t have the time to spare for that and have to suffer just to satisfy cravings. :(

HB has another entry in the now crowded custom Poke bowl field in the all new Poke Island. It seems every week I cross a new contender in Poke, a trend I don’t see going anywhere soon thanks to the average bowl costing ½ of the same portion of actual Sushi. Most of these made to order experiences are Pokenometry copy cats and Poke Island is no exception so their format will feel plenty familiar. The staff is plenty friendly and kudos to management for not allowing a all-too-often-seen jar with a «witty» statement pandering for tips. What do you pay to play? Roughly $ 12.00 for a bowl and a soda, genre median. You know the drill — Pick your carb, proteins, vegtables, sauce and toppings in an assembly line a la Chipotle. Poke Island’s sauces didn’t really offer any standouts but nothing offended the palette either and the vegetable game was all on point. The portions of protein were rather meager compared to the competition but the freshness was above league average so perhaps that is a trade off on the sport of the Poke bowl. Again — Poke Island basically sets a par in their category of faux sushi. I was happy enough with my lunch and would return to see if I could reach for a 4 star at Poke Island with little hesitation. In the meantime I would say they are A-Okay.

The novelty of fancy poke strikes again. Seems like Hawaii is sending another fish salad wave to OC’s food scene. Is this a good one to ride on? Interiorwise, the color selection and 808 themed décor kinda set you in the mood for vacation opposed to prosaic or sober places like PokiNometry or North Shore Poke. It’s pretty spacious and has plenty of seats with many tables easily to move together — perfect for bigger groups. I had a large bowl with 2 scoops of tuna, 2 scoops of salmon and a spring mix base with all toppings. The price is high for the amount of fish you pay compared to abovementioned poke shops. The flavor was average. The salmon had a slight«fishy» smell to it. Even the HB sauce wasn’t able to neutralize that odor. I got 2 additional scoops of tuna after telling them about the salmon. Service was nice, responsive and eager to help with the«fishy» incident. They don’t take tips(might be one of the reasons for their prices). My advice to the restaurant is: — lower your prices or — give more fish quantity or — raise the fish quality or — all of them ;)

Lately there has been a poke craze and literally dozens of these shops have been springing up everywhere. So how does this place come to Pokinometry and Northshore? Once you walk in, it’s pretty spacious. You pick a bowl and you pick what kind of toppings and fish you want. The bowls are decent size and for $ 11 you get 3 fishes. I went with a half salad and half brown rice. Overall, the fish was okay quality; however, the fish portions were pretty small. To be honest, this place is solid but nothing stands out about it. If I want larger portions and cheaper cost, I would go to Pokinometry. If I wanted quality poke, I would go to Northshore. Overall, the service is friendly but the food is just okay to me.
