Tokyo Deli

It is a hit and miss place. Good enough to satisfy cravings. This is not a typical sit down sushi restaurant with a server or anything. It is more like a sushi fast food place where you order at the counter and find a seat. The women that works here sort of irritates me. They do not seem to have many customers at once so she is always taking personal phone calls. It gets annoying when you are trying to place an order. I have been here several times, but i think i will skip this place all together from now on. Some food is good, but it is extremely awkward here.

One star is actually very generous for this review.
I grew up eating real Japanese food. I’m mid sixties.
When I first found «Tokyo Deli» (when they first opened) I was surprised at how good this fast food restaurant actually was. I don’t come often but I do come. The last few times that I have come I was slightly disappointed. But today makes me want to jump ship. I ordered Tempura Udon, the batter on the tempura was very heavy/​dense and more bland than ever. The udon broth was not as good as I remember the way they make it.
I read in another review that they will be closing and I can see why.
Save your $$$ and eat somewhere else.

Come here often the food and service is usually good until today. Called in for a poke salad (the same thing i always get) and the girl on the phone says 25 mins. I come in to pick it up nd she claims i ordered a poke bowl and gave me attitude and starting arguing with me saying thats not what i said. After she fixes my order i asked her for the extra sauce on the side that i ordered on the phone and she tells me shes going to charge me for it and continues to say that she doesnt have to charge me but she feels like it. I told her about the review i was going to write and she says it doesnt matter because they are closing in a month. I wonder why. I forgot her name but i know she has frizzy orangish blonde hair and she was a young asian girl. Good luck finding another job

I looked up the Unilocal reviews about their poke and seafood in general. But I was really persistent on getting poke. The lady was nice but it was just disgusting and over priced. The fish tasted like it was left outside for awhile I couldn’t even finish it. Now I’m waiting for the stomach ache I’m about to have. ALSO IT WAS 85% RICE NOT EVEN SUSHI RICE

Tokyo deli gets my first ever Unilocal review, the food is delicious and the woman (who is ALWAYS working) is always pleasant. My go-​to order is crunch shrimp rolls and my boyfriend loves their chicken teriyaki bowl.

Nice place to quickly grab lunch. Been here 15 – 20 times and the food is consistently delicious! I always get the spicy chicken bowl or the curry chicken bowl with soda lunch special.
A coworker told me he got food poisoning here from one of their poke bowls, so you might wanna stay away from the sushi. I haven’t done sushi here so I can’t personally vouch.

This place is near by my job. Had the Katsu Bowl for lunch and it was alright. Probably just pass on by next time when I’m going out for lunch. Nowhere near the best Katsu that I ever had. Kinda sucks. The egg made the Katsu soggy.

Okay, I LOVE this place. For quick and easy sushi, there is no better. I can say that I’ve been going there for years at this point, even when I moved over to the Costa Mesa/​Newport area. When I get a craving for sushi, but want to stay in this place is my go-​to even over the places that deliver.
So why the dock in 2 stars? Because in the past year I have had a handful of times where I call in an order during their normal hours of operation and it just rings and rings and rings before being disconnected. There is no message explaining the hours, being busy or a special closure. I’ll try calling over the course of 20 minutes and nothing. Anytime I ask them about it, they say the phones work. I’m truly stumped.

This is a hidden gem of outstanding Japanese food. The teriyaki and tempura are cooked to perfection. The sushi is always fresh and prepared perfectly. Everything on the menu is great! The prices are very reasonable too!

This place is a hidden gem. It doesn’t look like much from the street but the food is super fresh and delicious. I love the poke salad and the teriyaki no rice bowls!

Good food! Good price! Good people! They changed out the menu. The poke ramen no longer available, but the front person managed to ask their chef to make it for me priced from the old menu! This place is great!

Trust me, I’ve tried many poke bowls and salads from various places, but I keep coming back here for more!
Tokyo Deli is definitely the place to go for cheap, but good quality, meals. Prices are pretty average for a sushi place and the fish is, for the most part, fresh. (Some days they’ll have an off day and you can tell it isn’t fresh, but most of the time, it’s fresh. Don’t worry). The portions are worth what you’re paying for.
Service is very friendly and quick. If you order to-​go, they’ll come from behind the counter and hand you the food themselves. It’s a little detail that I really appreciate!
Overall, this is a very quaint and affordable place. One of my favorite places to stop for a quick lunch or dinner! :)

I tried this place once but I don’t know if I’ll come back. Maybe if I feel like trying their poke bowl or something.
I got the heart attack, it wasn’t that great. it tasted really dry. their philly roll wasn’t anything great either. Their prices are pretty high up their compared to regular sushi restaurants so it want worth it. Maybe if you like the bento boxes it’s more worth it but if you’re like me and like special rolls, you might as well go to a real sushi restaurant.

You get what you pay for. It’s more of a to-​go place. Very mediocre place. Warning: Ramen doesn’t taste that great nor does the broth have much taste at all. Most likely not what you’re expecting. Cheap though!
I think the thing most worth ordering is the poki bowl :)

Came here to pick up a to go lunch order. I got a spicy tuna salad and a poke bowl. The tuna in the spicy tuna salad was completely mushy and did not have chunks of tuna like most spicy tuna I’ve had. The fish in both of my items were bland an tasted like old fish. I was quite disappointed with the food here and did not even finish it all. Not only that, I ended up with food poisoning. I will NEVER come back here and waste my money again.

Very inconsistent quality restaurant. I always order the same thing and with my last visit I doubt I’ll be back, it gives me chills down my spine.
The poke salad here is my go to item. Big styrofoam container filled with different types of fish, avocado, onion, burdock root, roe, lettuce, and a mayo based poke sauce which you can get spicy. It’s delicious when it’s fresh and worth the money. My last visit though was horrid. I arrived right when they opened and most of the fish was frozen in the middle. It was like chewing on raw fish ice cubes. It gave me goosebumps and made me want to puke. Some of the pieces tasted past their prime too. It’s a shame since it was such a delicious meal before.
My wife had the philly roll and was rolled so poorly it would fall apart when picking up the pieces with chopsticks. Flavor wise though she liked it.
Place is outdoor only with a really high price tag. You’ll be paying restaurant prices to eat off of styrofoam plates. Not sure if I’ll go back. Even though I had a good experience the previous time I don’t think I can get the memory of frozen old fish out of my mind.
It was also a real joy to eat raw fish outdoors when the trash truck came at the same time and dumped the trash cans… Nothing like dumpster stench and truck exhaust while eating.

Sonny boy wanted a popcorn lobster roll so I went to Tokyo Deli for some take out. The restaurant is a casual order at the counter place with an outside patio seating area.
My to go order included the following:
(1) Popcorn Lobster CA Roll
My «To Go» order was prepared as if I was going to eat it there … I like my to go orders to have the sauces on the side. Plus, there were sliced raw onions on top of the roll? Sonny boy did not like the onions. I tried the roll & I know I would had enjoyed it more if I ate it in their patio when it was hot!
(2) Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box
My son’s bento box included teriyaki chicken slices, rice, 2 gyozas, 3 pieces of fried chicken, 4 pieces of CA roll, salad, & miso soup. Sonny boy enjoyed his Gyoza & said his chicken was «OK».
(3). Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box
My salmon was overcooked, my salad was just «sad», I gave my son my gyozas & fried chicken. So, my meal was just meh.
My to go lunch order was just «OK». However, I would return to have lunch in their patio. 3 Stars!

This sushi place isn’t too bad. I order poki salad but I wasn’t quite that satisfied with it. Just seem like they threw everything together. I think I should’ve order what my friends ordered which was the bento box.
I wasn’t too impressed but maybe I ordered wrong? Service was ok. The place is kinda of small and hard to find. Parking is decent. I wouldn’t recommend for a big group.
