So it’s sunday afternoon and I’m drafting this review as I speak. This restaurant has a handful of people littered about. An extremely loud karaōke singer is making things horribly difficult to talk to the person next to me. I mean… you should just have music playing over head and be done with it… this is actually making the dining experience terrible and agonizing. The food is oddly good. They have plenty of crab legs. The problem though? I just see flies landing on everything. So yeah, drink beer while here to kill the fly germs all over your food.

Ordered the Botana Mariscos. Seafood platter with shrimp and octopus. Food came out quick and was good. Tasted great and price was right for the amount of food that they gave. Fed 2 – 3 people.

The«ENVUELTODEMARISCOS,» was just as Mateo advertised(Read Review below). What he failed to mention though, is that the whole thing is HELDTOGETHERWITH10ORSOTOOTHPICKS(a few toothpicks on the exterior and a bunch more inside). Another thing he did not mention is that the Envuelto is ALSOSTUFFEDWITHCHEESE. This is how my order came out, anyway. Pros: THEENVUELTO was my favorite dish of the meal. My plate came out piping hot and all the seafood was [surprisingly] COOKEDTOPERFECTION. The exterior was crispy and golden brown. The interior was MOIST and GOOEYFROMTHE CHEESE. The cheese had no flavor to speak of and that was probably a good thing(think blue cheese and fish — yuck!). The cheese served more as a binder and textural component than anything else. I really could have done without the presentation though. I mean, C’mon! «Eyeballs?(See picture)» Anyhow, the complimentary CHIPS&SALSA were good too. The salsa wasn’t weak or too strong. Not thick or too thin.
Cons: The WATERYSIDESALAD — Why do Mexican eateries always serve this stuff? Iceberg lettuce and tomatoes dressed in water. Really? That’s just an egregious error, yet many places do this! WHY? Shit, even my dad does this! Ice cubes in a salad? Really? Minus 2 stars for that alone. RICEANDBREADEDSHRIMP — The rice was overcooked and flavorless(probably because the water from my stupid salad seeped into it). As nice a job as they did cooking my Envuelto, they fried the breaded shrimp to death. The breading was dark brown(almost burnt) and the interior was dry and rubbery. Indifferences — Entertainment — This could easily be on the«Con» side of things. The band was extremely loud and bad. The only reason that I did not make the entertainment a «CON» was because I had read a review beforehand but did not heed the warning. My bad for forgetting about this little tidbit of information. Will I return? For the Envuleto, yes. To dine here again, no. I’ll try a few more dishes that require no cooking next time. Ceviche and Campechanas are usually safe bets and delicious ones at that. I’ll give those a chance as they did look good and portions appeared large.

Mariscos Linda in Huntington Park is a little-known gem. The fact that I am only the second reviewer is testament to that fact. The place doesn’t have any real ambiance or anything to indicate fine dining. There are plastic lobsters attached to the walls! What it does have is good food! The envuelto de mariscos is a whitefish with the bones removed, butterflied and then filled with shrimp, octopus, squid, etc, then lightly battered and fried. It is my favorite dish! They also have a botana de jaiba, which is a heaping plate of hot flavorful crabs with really long legs. It comes with a dipping sauce that is also very tasty. The shrimp burrito is bursting with shrimp and is very tasty as well. They have a traditional Mexican food menu: carne asada, tacos, burritos(not really traditional, but omni-present in SoCal). But their specialty, of course, is seafood. They have a very nice Siete Mares(7 Seas Soup) as well. Also, the shrimp cocktail is perfect when it arrives at your table. No need to add ANYTHING. This is unusual. You can just dig in right away! On Friday and Saturday nights they have live music. It can range from pleasant to ear-shattering. I recommend going earlier, unlike you like loud music. Four stars for great food, good service, ample parking. I just wish they’d invest a little money on the interiors. It’s kind of kitschy and utilitarian, not where I’d take a date.

It’s the lords day, and Alma wants some fish. Not just any fish. Fish from her favorite Mexican Seafood Spot, Linda’s. I new this place was kind located downtown-ish. Alma had also brought us some ceviche from this place before – which was my first experience to the«Mexican style» of ceviche. There was parking-a-plenty here in this what seemed to be a newly redeveloped area,(I give it three years) and the place was not entirely packed. After being seated by a waitress, another waitress came and took our drink orders as she brought a giant basket full of chips. The brownish-green salsa was addictive! Too bad that my tamarindo drink tasted like it was made with bar towel water! I had to order a soda. We ordered the giant appetizer fish ceviche which was more than enough for three people. It came with tostadas and crackers on the side. The ceviche was delicious and tasty. Roughly minced pieces of fish with onion and cilantro. Place it on a tostada and top it off with a little Tapatio, and you got a tasty little snack. I was then wondering what happened to the aguachile de camarrones that I ordered. Our main courses came out, well at least for Alma, and I – Chris had to wait for his bistek picado burrito – as did my agua chile. The agua chile was a beautifully arranged assortment of butterflied and flattened shrimp, red onion, and a green chile lime mixture adorned with cucumber and orange slices. Absolutely delicious. The shrimp was extremely fresh tasting and my brother commented that this was possibly the best shrimp he had ever tasted. My huachinango(red snapper) was lightly battered and perfectly fried. I thought the fish lacked a little flavor, but with a bit of lime and some of that salsa, it went down pretty good. The seafood dishes came with white rice, salad, and potato wedges. My brothers bistek picante burrito came with a salad. He did not think the burrito was anything special. Alma ordered some kind of fish filet. It kinda looked like flounder. It was lightly battered as well and looked pan fried. Looks like the main attraction here is the lime cooked seafood combinations. The ambiance was very family orientated. Lots of room for big groups. Plenty of tvs to watch your favorite sporting events or Mexican caught on tape catastrophe shows. Beer and wine are served here. I didn’t look at the wine selections because I knew I was in Huntington Park, come on, who are we fooling, right? I recommend the agua chile. Not a big fan of Mexican ceviche. Peruvian is better in my opinion.
