I attended my first ILKB class over the weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have a few friends that go to ILKB at other locations and they’re major fans. Seeing a metro accessible location plus an enticing trial offer(3 classes + free gloves for $ 19.99) definitely got me to at least check it out. The atmosphere is great. They encourage first-timers to come in 30 minutes before their scheduled class to get a brief tour and consultation with an instructor. I really appreciated that and the interest in trying to help members achieve their fitness goals. The class itself was an awesome workout. I liked that there was an instructor dedicated to making sure first timers got the fundamentals rather than just throwing you into the mix with everyone else. Even though we weren’t doing all of the same things as the rest of the class, we still got a good work out and I feel confident about going into another class. I’ll echo some of the other reviews that the membership options were a drawback for me. I’m the type of person that needs diversity in my workout, so strictly kickboxing is not something I could commit to, and monthly unlimited plans are their only membership options. I’d definitely be more inclined to come back after my trial period if they had a drop-in rate or class packages, but I also understand that those options to some degree take away from the familial atmosphere that they’re trying to create. I don’t think the overall membership cost is outrageous if you can regularly commit, so I’d still encourage people to try it out!

I give ILKB more than a 5star, because the instructors really care. They are well motivating individuals and everyone has their own unique way of teaching. I love them. This is one of the best thing I ever commited myself to do for my body. I noticed changes right away specially my worse area which is my arms, I started to see a sexier toner arm arm and I am def motivated to force myself to go harder. Hot or Cold Snow or no snow I will make it to class. I am sad to say that I will be moving to VA and this really make me sad, I wish another franchise opens up soon. It is def worth it. This place is clean and has enthusiastic, friendly instructors. It’s a great workout. But it’s important to be clear about what you are and aren’t getting for your money. If you haven’t worked out or had a gym membership before, you might not know what you should expect to pay per month. And I think this gym charges way too much for what they offer. The number one thing that I think people should know is what this costs compared to other options out there. This costs anywhere from $ 120-$ 170/month — the former is the discounted price; the latter is the un-discounted price. There is no shower, and you can do one kind of thing: take kickboxing classes at set times. I think it’s important to understand how that compares to other options. You can go across the street to LA fitness and get unlimited gym access and all the classes you want(including non-heavy bag kickboxing) for $ 30/month, if all you want is a workout. Not to mention that at LA Fitness you could take a shower after. If you want luxury gym services, you can join Results or Vida or a high end gym, get included classes and access to shower, etc. for $ 100/month(last time I checked). If you really want to learn MMA-style kickboxing, you can go to a genuine MMA gym and take Muay-Thai lessons for about what this gym costs. Or, you can buy a heavy bag for $ 75 at walmart and watch U-Tube. For this gym to be worth the money, you’d have to either be getting kickboxing instruction that’s worth the(very high) cost of $ 120-$ 170/month or gym services that are worth the same kind of cost. You just aren’t getting the latter. And while the instructors are friendly and enthusiastic and fun, you just aren’t getting the former either. In fact, the classes are very crowded, often with two people to a bag, and(though, again, the instructors do try to help everyone who wants help) there ends up being very little instruction at all. I had to go home and watch U-Tube videos to figure out what I was supposed to be doing. But even beyond that, I don’t think the instructors actually have any kind of certification. Again, this is nothing against them, but I’m skeptical whether any of them have significant training in kickboxing. If I’m going to pay this kind of money, I want to be sure I’m doing it right. On google and other sites you will see tons of 5 star reviews. This is probably partly because of genuine enthusiasm, but it’s also partly because they give away free gloves for writing reviews on all the sites on their list. They *don’t* insist on vetting the reviews before giving the gloves. They do ask for evidence that you reviewed them, though, and it’d be pretty awkward to show them«evidence» consisting of sub-par reviews. So I think this policy inflates the ratings.

I’ve attended four classes so far at ILKB and I LOVE it! I’ve been wanting to try out kickboxing for some time now and when I saw this one opening up close to me I had to sign up! The class is definitely a GREAT total body workout, you will sweat, and you will feel it! There’s a warmup, stretch, bag rounds, then partner drills. I deducted a star only because there’s currently only two membership options and they’re both unlimited. I know people who can’t afford those options but would love to be able to either drop in or buy a class number package. Hopefully after they’re no longer considered new, more options will become available!
