Amazing authentic Caribbean food! Try everything you will not be disappointed! And the owners and staff are so friendly and accommodating. I had no idea what to get and they served us this veggie Patty thing that was delicious.

Yes, yes, yes!!! This is the place to get your grub on. When you ask for spice, they give you SPICE! Got chicken, rice, curry chick peas and salt fish. Dynamite! Great job, will be back

Tons of bones in the roti curried chicken… I understand bones in a plate of chicken, but wrapped up in a roti? So disappointing

The service and food was amazing. Everything is made fresh and is super delicious. I was skeptical at first because I’ve only had authentic trini food, and can’t be bothered with imitation. All I can say is eating this food and driving almost cause me an accident. The damn food was so good I couldn’t wait to get back to the hotel. I started off with my double, and channa started flying everywhere in my car and on my clothes because I was trying to eat it so fast. Then I said if the double was that good the bake and saltfish has to be incredible. When I started eating it I was saying out loud this ish is so freakin good. That’s when things got dangerous. Trying to eat bake and saltfish, drive and GPS at the same damn time is hazardous to your health. If I was only able to put the food down or wait none of this would’ve happen. This is what happens with food this damn good. I won’t even talk about my diet. Lord have mercy!

I live in Roxbury area and a week ago me my pops and cousins started demoing this old house on Hyde Park. We discovered D Coal Pot, this small(and I mean«small») Trinidadian place. so we pick up lunch from there. The rice chicken and peas are good, but today I’ve just tried their roti because I love me some roti! However, the roti had chicken bones all in it. Like the cooks chop up the fowls and them didn’t remove none of the bones and just stuff the damn roti. That’s the last time I ever eat from that restaurant. Pass!

My father is a Trinidadian native, so I know a good Trini meal when I taste one! Most authentic Trini restaurant in Boston! Obviously, as a Trini, you probably favor your recipes better, but for takeout, this is the best you’re going to get. The owner, Dave is very kind and cordial! I’ve been going here since they opened and haven’t had a bad experience yet. A lot of my meals are made fresh or have just come out. I’ve introduced friends and some of my American family to D Coal Pot and they were given samples of dishes and apps. My mother and I often take a drive for a bite, mostly on the weekends and we’re always welcomed with open arms! Dave always introduces myself and whomever I bring in to his family(the staff). I always lime(hang out) for a bit. We’ve had some food catered for family parties and received great feedback. LOVELOVELOVE D COALPOT!

Both of my parents are from Trinidad — so I never had a shortage of good trini food. Dave and his establishment are so welcoming. Truly great people. I always have a good meal, definitely the best Caribbean food in Boston. Unfortunately, my Boston standards are not the same as my Florida and Trinidad standards — but this is good for Boston. While their doubles and«street-food» staples are good, I actually love their traditional meals even more. The soups, crab and dumpling, desserts(pone/karuma) really hit the spot for me. So try it all! We love this place and the atmosphere, food and company.

This is the first Unilocal review I’ve been compelled to write, due to the quality of food and service I experienced when visiting D Coal Pot, and my personal hope that a 5-star review like this can help a great new spot succeed. I’ve driven 30+ miles on four occasions now and I’ve never been disappointed. My fiancée, who is Trini, wholeheartedly approves so I know it really is good. To start with the service, the manager is super friendly and a real fun guy — he’s recognized us each time we have come back(sometimes a few months in between visits) and is always very personable. The rest of the staff was cool, too. Love the Soca they play as well. They seem to be very active with the Caribbean community in the greater Boston area, which is always nice. As for the food, definitely the best Trini food in New England. I’ve been to other restaurants in the area(Ali’s Roti, Singh’s) but this is definitely quite a few notches above. The only superior Trini cuisine I’ve had in America was down in Lauderhill, Florida at Joy’s. The doubles have great flavor, and when you ask for plenty pepper you get the right amount of heat. I found these much better than Singh’s and a little bit better than Ali’s. The goat roti and pumpkin is phenomenal as well. The owner let me try some desserts as well(which I had never seen/heard of before). Not to mention the pahlourie is a great snack! All goes down nice with a cold Ting or Solo soda to drink. Overall, best Trini cuisine in New England. Great, great service. Highly recommend. If you have never tried Trini food, you will LOVE the taste(just brace yourself for the spice!) Can’t beat the low prices, either, for a meal that will certainly fill you up. Also, bonus points for the outdoor décor(you’ll see what I mean when you visit). Please go try this place, you won’t be disappointed!

I went here with my husband today and absolutely loved it. We both had the stewed chicken, with buss up shot and dhalpoori. The meals came with a hearty serving of sides — curry channa, pumpkin, potatoes, and cabbage. It was so tasty and hit the spot. I am Trinidadian, and Indian, so I am a bit picky when it comes to these items, but they were definitely perfect in my book. The pepper sauce was also very tasty — not too sweet and definitely packed a punch. The lady who made the roti knew what she was doing. The roti skins were soft and flaky and were rolled to the proper thickness. At Singh’s and Ali’s, the roti was too thick and hard for my liking. This place is far better for roti. Also, the people there were really nice and friendly. They even gave us samples of drinks at the end. We will definitely be going back here. Next time we will call ahead to make sure they have goat.

The food is good but as a Trinidadian it is not the best that I have had. If you are longing for a taste of Trinidad after a vacation there then this is a good place to get that. If you are Trini an longing for doubles and phoulorie like you had round the Savannah, you will be disappointed.

Big fan. Went in for the first time today and was not sure what to order. Everyone that works there is very friendly and they are happy to let you taste the different stews and dishes. I got the stewed chicken with a spicy sauce, poured over rice with beans and a avocado side salad. The flavors were excellent and the texture and juiciness of the chicken was perfect. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and a nice outdoor area with colorful tables and tropical plants. I definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a unique lunch option.

This place is great. Opened one year ago. Tasty Trinidadian food, including doubles and pholourie, which are made from the same batter as doubles but don’t don’t have anything inside. Like a Trinidadian doughnut hole. Lots of other substantial food as well — goat stew, two kinds of fish — and a menu that changes all the time. No real place to sit, this is for take-out. Very nice people, totally worth trying out and a wonderful addition to the scene in JP/Rozzie/Hyde Square.
