This was our favorite sports bar in the neighborhood. Was is the key word. Went to watch game 6GS vs Cavs. Went early, ordered food and multiple rounds to have our tv changed by the bartender, even when our server asked him not to. «First come first serve» only counts at the bar and not tables. Burnt food and over priced drinks to crane your neck to watch the game is not what is advertised by the name«sports bar.» We won’t be back.

Due to recent issues in Broad Ripple I have been hesitant in visiting establishments on the main strip. However, it was National Running Day and my friends and I were all going to be on the Monon and it was only convenient for everyone to meet at a restaurant in Broad Ripple. Since it was my birthday I had a hankering for some wings! After scouring the internet for reviews and good deals I stumbled upon Average Joe’s. The reviews looked promising. I would have to say… this place exceeded my expectations. Like any Broad Ripple bar it is dark and you are required to have ID. It doesn’t have outdoor seating, but it does have big windows that open up so you can people watch while you eat and drink. My party of 20 women were seated in the back so we could have optimal seating together. It happened to be Wednesday which meant we were able to take advantage of 50cent wings! I was very much impressed with the wings! First they were grilled NOTFRIED… YAY…that made me feel so much better because it was well within my meal plan. They also had a great variety of sauces. Our waitress Brittney was sweet and worked quickly to fill both our drink orders and food orders… she was great and had awesome tats! I did say the chicken was awesome right… ok…#respecktthechicken! The drinks were on point… I had vodka and cranberry and a Blue MF and they were both very strong. As the night started to wind down, the manager came by and asked what was the occasion and my party of friends explained it was my birthday. Within 15 minutes he returned with two bottles of champagne… how awesome is that! I really thank this manager because it really changed my perspective on Broad Ripple. Thank you to my awesome waitress and the even better manager… your hard work and generosity made for new Average Joe fans!

Came here Wednesday after work with two friends for the half priced wings. First time I’ve been here for food, but I have heard good things do my expectations were high. The wings exceeded my expectations. So why 3 stars? It was for the service. The system at average joes is weird. It was the first time I was there but when you walk in it’s hard to tell whether or not it’s self seating. We self sat, and on a nice day they have big roll up doors they open allowing the breeze to come through. Perhaps we were out of the way or they were short handed but it took about 25 minutes before we were able to get our order in. However, our waiter was very friendly and gave me a free beer for forgetting to bring me one. Average Joe’s has some of the best wings I’ve ever eaten. They have two dry rubs Blackened and Cajun. Both rubs were outstanding. The wings were meaty and on Wednesday nights with 12 wings for $ 6 dollars and $ 3 domestic pints it blows nearby Buffalo Wild Wings out of the water. But it took waaaaaay too long from sit down to exit. The friendliness of our waiter about the issue and the quality of wings will make me give Average Joe’s benefit of the doubt and I’ll be back again

The good: Everyday they have great deals on food and drinks. Tuesday/Thursday FREEPOOL! every other day is 50 cents. The service is great! Smiles, friendly, like you all are friends! The bad: they don’t have a variety of music, the most they’ll play is Taylor swift, don’t even have Chris brown. majority country so if you don’t like that type of music this isn’t the bar for you.

I’m within walking distance of this place and went to meet a friend to watch a hockey game on a Wed night. Got off to a bad start when I was stopped at the door by a 20 something doorman/bouncer. I brought my credit card and cash… but no ID. Well young cocky door guy had to make a stand and not let me in… I must look like I’m on the bubble of 21. You know… I’m only a 51 yr old chubby bald guy!!! Must have been a tough call. I wasted 30 minutes going back to my condo to get the ID. The place has plenty of TV’s and a pretty good atmosphere. Our server was friendly… the two times I saw her in 2.5 hours. Dreadfully slow. Bad first impression.

Not sure what the criteria would be for receiving good service(at least) but this place totally missed the mark Wednesday night($ 2 wings night). First, I waited about 5 minutes to get any kind of service & have my order was taken. It wasn’t very busy so I thought that was pretty odd… no biggie, right? So maybe 5 – 15 minutes after I sat down, the bartender comes, takes my order and I chill. At this time new people had came in, greeted instantly once they sat down & had their order taken. Mind you, this is after my order was placed. However, they seem to get their order before me. On top of that, I had to wait another 10 – 15 minutes b/c the bartender said the kitchen gave my order to someone else which I didn’t know about until I flagged the bartender down for more info. Overall, the service was a hot mess. I’m not sure if they all were having an off night bad or they were just wanted to be selective of which customer seen their exceptional service however, my experience was horrible and I don’t think I’ll go back. Regardless if its $ 2 wings Wednesday.

Free pool! Seriously. how can you go wrong with that? This is a great chill bar in Broadripple. I have been here a bunch of times while visiting Indy. Its usually my go-to start or end of the night place if I am out around here. They have great drink specials and some pretty solid music on the jukebox. There really isnt much else to say. its no frills and gets the job done!

Can’t beat the price on wing night. The wings can be hit or miss, but when they are on they are some of the best, if not the best in town. Service is usually good.

This sports pub has plenty of TV’s to watch the game and reasonable drink prices. The food was your run of the mill bar grub. Not the best I’ve ever had, but far from the worst. The service is also good. I will be going back.

I tend to come here for the wings on Wednesdays… 6 wings for $ 2 you cant beat that. Stick to the Cajun or blackened wings. they are the dry rub. Not a fan of the wet soggy sauce. Not many great things i can really say because it is your typical broad ripple bar.

Been here a few times — mostly after sporting events — and each time its disappointment. The bar itself is fine, the food is decent, but the wait staff is overall quite poor. One female waitress in particular was rude and inattentive. She had dark hair and was/is? short. I was here a few months back after a flag football game(CCA) and I ordered a few bucks of Coors Lite. After quite sometime she delivered the buckets but they were Bud Lite. Now I hate Bud Lite and never order it but at the end of the day its all the same. Nonetheless I told the waitress we wanted Coors Lite but we’d drink these buckets but wanted Coors Lite next time. She responded, «Well I heard Bud Lite» and walked off. After we finished the buckets we ordered another round, but I specified Coors Lite. After the playful long delay of receiving our next round, she again dropped off Bud Lite. Our table looked around, somewhat puzzled. I again informed the waitress that we wanted Coors Lite. Much to my surprise she responded again by saying, «Well I heard Bud Lite». End scene. We were all bewildered and amused by this point when we were ready to order another round. She came by and asked if we would like another round and the entire table yelled«COORSLITE!». The table burst into laughter. Taking plenty of time to ponder this seemingly impossible order, and a little more time after that she finally dropped off the buckets of beer… this time Coors Lite. I’m never going back. CCA offers free vouchers for pitchers after each game during your playing season but I just pass it along to the next unsuspecting victim.

Pretty cool place when you walk in, but the blonde chick behind the bar with the truck driver mouth could be the biggest bitch I ever crossed paths with. She poors a shitty drink too. I will never go back. What a bitch!

As with most posters, I will say that the food and atmosphere live up to the name of the bar. You have to put a card on hold or pay cash as you go, but you can switch cards or split the bill at the end if you need to. Service was a bit slow, but then again we were there during a Colt’s playoff game. I could have done without the waitress’ apology/plea for a tip at the end though. In all, would likely try another of the nearby bars next time.

Average joes lives up perfectly to it’s name. The bar is very average, which is not always a bad quality. At Joes, you get wait staff that remember you, actually visit your table to get you new drinks, and you get prices that are extremely reasonable. There are dart boards and pool tables, but no dance floor. Most is the time there is music playing from jukebox selections, but on rare nights they have a DJ. If you’re looking for a dance club, walk next door to one of the sister establishments. Mineshaft saloon is a low key dance club, while rock lobster is much higher energy and packed with people. If you happen to get hungry at joes, they had really cheap bar food. Depending on the night, you might find $ 1 tacos or a wing special, etc. the food is not amazing quality by any means, but it meets the typical bar standard at below average prices. Bottom line, joes is a great place to start your night or just casually hangout with friends.

Not many bars in Broad Ripple actually hold up to their name. You won’t find any rock or lobster at Rock Lobster, no felines at the Alley Cat, there isn’t any blasting going on at Mineshaft, and at Wild Beaver there aren’t any… well, I take that back, but you can be sure that Average Joe’s is actually full of average Joes. They have managed to put together an average sports bar that seems to attract the average person out looking to catch the game with a few cheap beers and some bar food. It’s very chill, and is a nice change of pace from a lot of other places. If you want to meet a large group somewhere that you can all stand around and talk without having to yell over the music or be too crowded together, this is the place. As far as the décor, the place is covered from wall to wall(including some fixtures on the ceiling) with awesome sports memorabilia spanning quite a few generation. A lot of it is local, and it makes for a fun time checking out what they have acquired throughout the years. There is seating at booths, tables, and a bar, along with room to stand around if that is your preference. The wall facing Broad Ripple Ave has a large section that opens up so you can enjoy some fresh air and do some people watching while there. There are a few pool tables that they make free to play a couple nights a week. While Average Joe’s is one of my favorite places to hang out, it doesn’t seem to be too high on other peoples radar, so if you are looking for a place to catch a big game and everything else seems full, I recommend checking out Average Joe’s because they usually have seats left after anyone else. The beer choices are nothing to write home about, but they do have all of the usual stuff along with a couple popular craft varieties. The draw here is that their specials, mostly food, are awesomely cheap and they have a different one most nights of the week. If you can deal with eating standard unhealthy bar food, $ 5 will fill you up no problem. It seems to be a trend in most of these reviews already, but I have also found that the service isn’t quite up to par with other places. I don’t know if they prefer you to just go up and order at the bar, but that’s usually what I end up doing just so that I don’t have to wait as long as it usually takes to get drinks refilled. Overall, I think they have put together the kind of place they were shooting for. It isn’t loud or crowded, and people are there to genuinely have a good time with friends enjoying some beer instead of all the guys trying to out-bro each other and every girl working too hard for free drinks. A little better service would go a long way though.

I really hate to give this place two stars. However, this review is based upon my experience there tonight ONLY. I have been many other times and had decent service and food. Tonight me + 2 friends got there around 6:45 and found a booth right away. It was nice to snag a booth with plenty of TV’s around to watch the IU game. However, after waiting 10 minutes for a waitress to come around, we started to get a bit annoyed. However, with the big game coming up, nothing was going to sink our spirits… We ordered a pitcher to share amongst us and after a couple minutes were served our beer… and then nothing. We were not asked if we wanted to place a food order. After waiting for another 30 minutes, we tracked down another waitress and asked if she knew who our server was. She did not, but promptly found her and sent her our way. «So you want to order food?». Why, yes, yes I would like to order food! We each placed an order for 2 flavors of wings and I decided to order a basket of waffle fries for the table to share. After waiting for our food(not a big deal, it was busy)…a guy brings out my two friends’ food. After they have their food for about 10 minutes, the waitress finally comes over to ask how the food is. Well, I am not sure, because I still DONOT have mine. She promptly goes back to the kitchen, and then goes back to her post at the end of the bar and continues to stand there. NO update on what is happening. Finally, the guy who brought out our wings goes to her and they seem to have a very deep conversation about what I assume to be my food order. After that a few minutes pass by, and finally she comes by to update me that«the girl couldn’t decipher my handwriting and your order got put on another ticket»… I am sorry. What? Typically, one would think… Hmmm maybe I should find the waitress and see what this order is about. Nope. Don’t worry, you got curly fries(NO, waffle fries), buffalo and what… Okay it will be another 5 minutes. Finally, my food makes its way out. 2 flavors of wings, check. Order of ranch + celery? No go. Waffle fries? No go. I was exasperated at this point, so my friend pointed out that I had ordered not curly fries but waffle fries. The waitress’ response was…“well that’s why I said curly fries when I came over.” I am sorry. No. The 2nd time I tried to order waffle fries you should have explained(as you did when the curly fries came out) that you were out of waffle fries… SORRY. Maybe I didn’t want the curly fries? On to a more positive subject… Food was good, the fries that finally made it to the table were very hot and fresh, and the beer was cold. It sucks that this trip was so bad… we didn’t even stay to watch the game. :(

Average Joes is really just that… average. Yesterday, boyfriend and I went to get the half off pizza special. You have to search out the servers. The service is almost always bad. They forgot to put bacon on our pizza. I told my server and she said that it’s chopped up small. I am pretty sure that I can tell/taste bacon on my pizza or not. I enjoy shooting pool. Don’t go to this place unless you know that it won’t be crowded.

This place was never that great, but I had a couple friends that loved it because they had free pool and they loved playing. Now that they’ve got rid of that, it has absolutely nothing going for it. The service is consistently the worst service I have ever experienced anywhere. I seriously cannot express how awful it is. On top of that, it’s a sports bar yet they offer only 4 or 5 beers on tap. If you’re into light beer, the pitcher specials are usually good. The only good thing about this place is the pizza, which is delicious and also half price on Sundays. Even then, the terrible service of this place has killed the temptation to go there on pizza day. Unquestionably one of the worst bars in the area. Scale of 0 – 10 Service: –10 Drinks: 3 Food: 7 on Sundays, 3 every other day

The name says it all, perfect for the Average Joe! It is much better with the new smoking ban though and I have been back and it was pleasing again. The nachos were good, and a good value. The beer specials were decent. One of the guys I was with didn’t like his mixed drink, but that can happen anywhere and for the price he paid, it was still a great deal even though it was slightly missing the tasty factor. The windows that open to the street are nice, the pool tables seem well placed and in good shape, the staff were helpful and reasonable, and they were prompt with refilling waters. For all the options in B-rip, this is a pretty solid place.

When I first arrived at Average Joe’s it would’ve been difficult to describe my excitement. I might as well have arrived with a «Frank the Tank» name tag, because I came with my game face! The scene for an epic night had been perfectly laid out. It was the night of the NFL Draft, I was among great company, Average Joe’s had great drink/food specials, and it was fairly early so we basically had the place to ourselves. However, after my initial excitement, my experience at Average Joe’s went downhill faster than Lindsay Lohan’s career. When I say bad customer service, it is an understatement. I waited about 20 minutes before realizing that a waitress wouldn’t come to take my order, and to make matters worse, we had to remind her several times to even come back to our table! Maybe they were understaffed, which is totally understandable, no, actually I lied, it isn’t. It’s the night of the NFL Draft, and the Colts are about to make one it’s biggest selections in team history. As a restaurant owner, I feel that you need to be prepared for those types of special occurrences. You weren’t understaffed for the Final Four, were you? Even the food was underwhelming(although it was only $ 5 for a bacon cheeseburger – YESPLEASE!) If you can’t judge a book by it’s cover maybe you can judge it by it’s name, because Average Joe’s is just that – Average.

I’ve recently been introduced to this bar by a number of different people and I’m quite impressed with it. The atmosphere is great; low key, a large, comfortable amount of people, and the music isn’t overbearing. Compared to the other bars surrounding it, the music is of all varieties and doesn’t just cater to the people who want to dance. There is a jukebox, which gives you the option of paying for and playing your choice of music. This bar has free pool all the time and I feel like that is very hard to come by these days. With that being said, the pool tables are often occupied. The drinks are very reasonable. $ 2 for a PBR, which is what I tend to stick to while I’m there, but I’ve tasted their mixed drinks, and I can’t complain about those, or their price. They serve food late so if you’re drunk and need some nourishment, the kitchen’s open until about 1am. There is plenty of seating, both booths and tables, so if you’re looking for a calmed bar to talk and drink more intimately with your cohorts, I’d definitely give Average Joe’s a try.

This is one of the most«chill» bars in Broad Ripple. The drinks are reasonably priced and they have great good specials every night of the week for the late night munchies. Plus the kitchen is open until about 1am I believe, which is fairly rare for a bar in BRip. The tap selection is rather limited, but the mixed drinks are a fairly strong. My two favorite parts about this bar is the free pool and the music selection. That’s right. They always have free pool. They have 4 pool tables and it is always free. Most of the time everyone playing pool is fairly friendly, so it is easy to walk up to a table and ask if they want to play a few games. The music played there really goes with the whole laid back theme of the bar. They play music from the 60’s to now. This is a place you will not hear the Top 50 on repeat. Come to think of it, I even remember hearing«today’s hits» when there. Average Joe’s does allow smoking inside, which is getting to be rarer these days. Don’t worry, the place is well ventilated and they have the garage doors in the front they open up for some great people watching. Overall great place. My favorite late night spot in Broad Ripple simple due to the atmosphere, drinks and free pool!
