Fall Creek Trail

Fall Creek trail has more nature to see than the Monon, so take a side trip & check it out. It connects to the mighty Monon just south of the State Fairgrounds, running SW down to Meridian Street or NE up to Fort Harrison State Park. Watch for fish, birds, deer, & other critters along the creek. Mostly shady & fairly flat, but tree roots can make for a bumpy ride in some areas. The trail crosses 38^th Street in a zigzag, watch for trash & broken glass. This is a nice, relaxing, interesting trail to take at a slower pace.

Once upon a time I walked this trail almost every weekend, but I feel this trail sadly is not as safe as it once was. Narrow and stray dogs roam are some of my cons and the area is not as nice as years before. I will miss this trail, the beauty of it and the sound of the creek but I have moved on to the monon trail now and that is where I will be

Fall Creek Trail /​Greenway now goes all the way to Boy Scout Rd, and then it’s only 150 yards on the road or the sidewalk to the Fort Harrison State Park west-​side entrance. Pedestrians and bicycles only at this entrance. Get your annual pedestrian/​bike pass to use this entrance. It is NOT a car entrance. There are no parking spaces here. This part of Boy Scout rd is called «Schafter Rd» on some maps.

Fall Creek Trail and Greenway is beautiful! I was able to run along this 12 mile planned trail and the scenery is fantastic. There is plenty of shade along the trail so in the summer or during very sunny days the heat isn’t overwhelming. I must say that between miles 10 – 11 the trail is especially beautiful. You can hear the creek’s water rushing and see the water between the trees. It was enough to make me think of moving to Portland so I can be in awe of my surroundings all of the time. The trail does follow along the road and sits between the road and the creek for the majority of the length. That said, NO WATER. But, on the up side the trail is uninterrupted. You don’t have to stop for street lights, traffic. There are places where the trail can be rather narrow so be aware of your surroundings and listen for the fellow trailblazers «to the left».
