I’ve since moved away to Seattle and only recently started leaving Unilocal reviews due to a bad haircut but… I HAD to use this account to leave a review for the Indy restaurant I miss most. It’s not the cheapest but everyday [that it was open] was like Christmas morning. This place would offer the craziest specials. The best salmon I’ve ever had was to H2O’s credit. We also never left without their trademark cookie dessert and whipped cream. I miss this place :(

Excellent sushi. Small menu but good variety of sushi and non sushi items. We love the appetizers especially the pork belly roll. Dessert cookie is the best I’ve had. Call ahead to make sure they are open. The hours are a little strange. I can’t tell you how many times we have craved sushi, driven there and been disappointed.

When I saw the outside, I was a little worried. When I think Broad Ripple sushi place, a white stucco building attached to an alterations shop was definitely not what I was picturing, but the inside was very eclectic and cozy. We started with a chili flavored edamame that was delicious! The Two Brothers roll is a must try! A little spicy with a nice citrusy finish. We also had the Buttery Nipple. I thought it was going to be a little spicier considering it had Siracha on it, but it was pretty mild. Tasty though! Their beer selection is great. Several good beers on tap and in the bottle. Attentive service and a good atmosphere. If I’m in the mood for sushi again, will definitely go back.

Best or second best veggie sushi we ever had — and creative appetizers — they don’t have many/any veggie rolls but our server informed us she often asks the chef to just make some and was there anything we didn’t like and they were AMAZING. And friendly owners. And baby friendly. Try it.

This place has some unique sushi rolls to offer, and although some are better than others, we didn’t dislike any of them. Their dessert was simple, yet delicious. One thing to note is that they pour the beer – probably to prevent people from doing saki bombs. With this being our first sushi experience in Indy, we were satisfied on all fronts, although we do hope to find a place that far exceeds our sushi expectations.

the décor was eclectic and trying to be something… but i couldn’t figure out what. the food on the menu was named crazy things like«buttery nipple» and«something? ho». the sushi had mayo and sriracha in a nipple shape. SERIOUSLY? did a frat boy design this place? even though I try to be nice and accepting, I just can’t. I’m sorry. I’m not easily offended, but this place was confusing. maybe just not for me. the food was really disappointing. i will not return.

Arguably some of the freshest, tastiest, prettiest sushi in town. I’ve been going there for several years and the quality of the food has remained consistently high. Occasionally the service has been slow, but I keep going back because I love the sushi. I also give them high marks for the visual appeal of the interior design, although some sound-deadening materials would be appreciated as it can get so loud it’s challenging to hear your dinner date speak.

I dont ever want to hurt a business by the reviews I leave… so I will start with the positives. From the art on the wall, to the unique metal chopsticks, all the way to the seasonings on the food– its all creative! And I truly enjoy when businesses think outside of the box. However, I am sorry it just didnt work for me. A swing and a miss. If you want to experience a twist on sushi, then dine here. My seaweed salad was peppered(I think). And I ordered some roll with cilantro on it. Long story short, some people love it here. You might too. But if you want traditional sushi-skip H2O and come back on a different night when you are feeling adventurous!

Decent sushi but SLOW service. The slowest of any sushi bar I’ve had in Indy. Just not the best choice if you’re in a hurry.

We were here with a fairly large group to celebrate a birthday, and everything went very well start to finish. The edamame comes with a choice of seasonings which made for fun variety in the classic sushi appetizer! We had a few different varieties to pass around the table. The suzi, which includes jalapeños and cilantro, was great. The cocktails are great as well. I had one with mint and ginger(can’t recall the name) that was just delicious! We had a mix of sushi lovers and those who had never had sushi before in the group. The staff were all very knowledgeable about the menu and very patient with those who had a lot of questions. This would seriously be a great place for someone who has never tried sushi, and is feeling a little intimidated; no pretentiousness here! They had excellent recommendations for the newbies and veterans alike. The menu features some unique and delicious combinations I haven’t seen elsewhere; the instant bliss roll which included tuna, avocado, cucumber and fresh orange peel grated on top was amazing! Dessert was great as well; as others have noted the cookies are fresh and delicious! The in-house made ice cream is wonderful as well! We really appreciated not being rushed; I think we stayed almost 4 hours(we did keep ordering things and the place was full, but no one was waiting on a table, so that probably helped!). Honestly though, we were not pressured to move rapidly through courses, and were really able to have a nice celebration. I definitely will be back!

My visit to H2O from appetizer to dessert was quality. Reservations for 5:45 on a Wed to meet up with friend and catch up. We knew we would want a few hours without being rushed and love sushi. H20 fit the bill. Beautiful inside and sushi is outstanding. Our server was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable offering suggestions which turned out to be the best advice I’ve taken in a long time. Started off with edamama and tuna tartar. Both were excellent. Highly recommend the Blend Treana which was a perfect compliment for our dinner. Ordered 2 rolls. Both were excellent. Posted pics but forgot the name(sorry) Really wish I had written them down bc were worthy of a recommendation. Dessert was chipotle ice cream and the oatmeal cookie that has been the rave of several reviews. Topped off with French press coffee. Hopefully, my pics will convey how much time and effort goes into the presentation and preparation of each dish. We left dinner feeling sated and spoiled!

My favorite sushi place! Love the big chunks and the cut of the fish! Now the wait staff looked rough and noticed them smoking outside the door however the food is so fantastic it didn’t matter all that much.

Excellent sushi, ranked in order of tastiness: #1 Two Brothers Roll #2 Lottery Roll #3 The Crazy Ho Roll Waiter was excellent, recommended the hot-out-of-the-oven oatmeal cookie w/coffee whipped cream for dessert. Heavenly!

We read reviews on Unilocal and decided to try it. It was ok. The waitress had a hole in her sweater right in the middle of her belly. It looked bad. The service was ok, nothing special. The décor was modern with abstract painting hanging around, wooden tables, and metal & wood chairs that were not very comfortable. They offer the traditional starters of miso soup and edamame, but also offer these with optional flavors and spices, your choice. Downer: they didn’t have Gyoza. We tried the Black Edamame. I don’t remember the spices, but on our opinion it wasn’t as good as the traditional garlic salt. Next we tried the miso soup with added rice, seaweed, and avocado, along with tofu. It was only ok. Loved the avocado slices, but the seaweed was too much for me. Sushi rolls: Two Brothers, Cuban Cigar, and …(?) Ho. All of these were Very Good!!! Desert!!! Not to be missed!!! Nothing like it out there. Warm Oatmeal cookies with this yummy Expresso whipped crème. We drove across town to try it… but we like the sushi restaurant by us much better. Oishi Sushi at 10th& Shadeland. Comfortable chairs/booths, traditional oriental décor, a lot more variety of rolls, gyoza, miso soup, it’s just better.

Since we moved from San Francisco to Indy, the only place that makes us feel that we are eating real sushi is at H2O. Nick remembers us, makes us special rolls based on our preference, and certainly makes us feel welcomed. The food is well priced, the atmosphere casual enough for a nice date, yet, not full of kids wanting to look cool eating sushi and drinking sake bombs. We love H2O.

I am a big fan of H2O Sushi. I’ve been there a couple times in the past month and both times made me question why I don’t go way more often. From start to finish, it’s all really inspiring and well-done. First, the cocktails are really amazing. They have one called«Ginger Not Mary Anne» that I just love. It’s a ginger-lemon concoction that is just delicious. I’m kind of a lightweight when it comes to alcohol, but the rest of the cocktails on the menu looked equally interesting and quaffable. I was interested, but I had to drive home! The appetizers are also really, really good. The pork bun is so, so good(it’s sharable if you’re not very hungry, but if you’re starving – or you really like pork belly… get one per person). Also, they are doing something I’ve never seen before with edamame – they’re serving them marinated in one of two different sauces. I’ve always gotten the Suzy which has jalapenos, cilantro, and soy. Let me just tell you… if I had ONE less manner, I would lick the bowl. I’m not kidding. They’re addictive. It’s the kind of taste you dream about later in the week. Don’t let the jalapenos scare you… these are totally not spicy. For the main, I always do one of their awesome sushi rolls. They had a special Lin roll which I loved, but it’s not a regular. They had a Koream Bibimbap that I really wanted to try the last time I was in, but I was already full from lots of appetizer. Okay, dessert. Please, please leave room. The shagbark cookie(they serve two and are huge, definitely sharable) is one of the best I’ve ever had. And it’s served with espresso whipped cream. They also have a selection of gelatos and sorbets that change frequently and are unusual and the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner.

Superb New School Sushi… I think among the best, if not the best in Indy. This should be considered and excellent restaurant that happens to have a well done sushi bar. What is often missed here in reviews… are the incredibly well prepared and creative non-sushi items on the menu… and specials that are seasonal and obviously ever changing. This is an excellent place to go for dinner should you have an «I hate sushi» person in your entourage. I think Kara F experience is an aberration. I have found the service to be good… more relaxed and affable than stuffy and polished. Try the sparkling sake !

Had a great time here. I don’t remember what rolls we ordered, but they were all fresh and tasty. Save room for the warm cookie with caffeine free espresso whipped cream. If you’re on Foursquare, get free edamame with your first check in. Beware though, I think ours were microwaved, rather than steamed, as some were super hot and some were lukewarm to downright cold. Service was great, server was knowlegeable on the saki selection(tip, get 4 oz of hot house saki for $ 4). If you are wondering where to park, it’s BEHIND the building. Also, be sure when you are seated that you aren’t in the line of any of the overhead lamps. Once seated, we had to ask to move because a light was shining right in my face like I was under interrogation.

Uhhhh… where do I start? Reservations by our good friends were made, and thanks to them showing up before us pork buns were ordered and being prepared as we sat down. Man, my anticipation was at full steam; now that I know in retrospect those local pork’d pork buns were being steamed and made as we were approaching… my anticipation to write this review is growing /salivating. Sun King Osiris in the can is served promptly and freshly. As I sipped my first sips I really took in the space: proper sushi bar in back, four top tables scattered throughout the well-lit room, and then some crazy beautiful enormous art on the wall. If you ask me… a restaurant is the best place for art to be displayed. They can be working galleries, really. We’re a bit of a chained audience where we can spend a sustained amount of time looking at the art work rather than grazing through a gallery. Snow Crab Sashimi? Yes, please! Whole crab legs: a simple and glorious achievement of Mother Nature. The tablemates agreed: Crab 7. Lobster 0. Wait, back to the pork buns: local, fresh pork delicious-ness in a steamed bun handheld & slightly open face. Edamame garnished with something sweeter than usual… scallions? Then came the rolls. *Instant Karma: it’s basil wrapped. Perfect. *Something with lemon thrust-ed into the salmon. Perfect. Wait, was that the instant karma roll? I’m still in a sushi haze… *Spicy Tuna Roll. Perfect. *Although my memory has lost me on this one… I can say that I’ll stand by this statement: this is the best sushi in the city. yes, I haven’t been to One World just yet. But H2O has it’s sushi gloves on, ready to go head-to-head. Dessert: Whoa. Epic. Sure, «epic» is used pretty lightly round the Unilocaliverse. But I’m not kidding. Epic. *Salted Ovaltine Ice Cream /Gelato amazingness *Blueberry Lavender *Cinnamon That was just absurdly good. I’d come here for that ice cream alone. Oh, wait there’s more: *Crazy oatmeal cookie warm from the oven with espresso crème. Uh huh. That was just the best damn cookie I’ve ever had. After I had it… I realized I had it at Goose, but this was warm from the oven and with this just plain badass espresso crème. *Crème Brulee. Classic. With a candied walnut twist. Is that it? I do believe so. Oh lord, there’s more: brownie with some crazy pears. My goodness that was terrific. It should be known, I didn’t eat for 18 hours after this meal. It makes sense now that I listed everything. I have no idea how we did it. And, I have no idea how they do it with their vast menu from sushi to non-sushi amazing local farmed specials to that nutty dessert menu. I’ve seriously never seen a dessert menu at a sushi place like this. In the end, an incredibly welcome respite from the rest of Indy. I felt transported, and, to me, that’s the ultimate for fine dining.
