La Jolla is closed. I am not sure what took so long.

The food was not even sub-par. It was so below par, in fact, that it shouldn’t even be able to call itself Mexican food. I had a 2 item combination with an enchilada and a taco. The«seafood» taco is a mix of imitation crab and who knows what else. My enchilada was smaller than my hand. The rice was bland, and the beans were runny. Our waiter used ridiculous slang and was inattentive, he was too busy making«bro» jokes with the other staff and texting. The patio is great, and that’s probably why people go there and fill it up in the summer. Please do not waste your money on food that makes Taco Bell look like it has 3 Michelin stars.

Foods is over priced extremely Tex Mex, not real Mexican. The atmosphere is great in the summer if you want to sit on the deck and drink margaritas and eat chips and guacamole!

So I’ve walked by this place many times since I moved to Broad Ripple, and it always looked crowded… especially the outside patio during the summer. I finally made it here today after a 10 mile walk on the Towpath. Hungry and thirsty and wanted food! My friend ordered the grilled chicken salad and I had the fish tacos. My tacos were yummy and the waiter we had kept refilling my glass of Diet Coke… I think I had 3 large glasses… which took care of the thirst, but now I’m buzzing :-) La Jolla’s homemade salsa was very good. I read some of the other reviews and I can see why the reviews are so mixed. During the summer and fall months when the weather is so great, I’m sure the service takes a hit because I’ve seen this place so crowded. I wouldn’t say you will find authentic Mexican food here, but they made decent fish tacos and that will always bring me back.

When you are walking by the food smells good, the patio looks truly enjoyable and the patrons always look happy. I have wanted to try this place for quite some time and was able to go last night. That said, my expectations as an onlooker were entirely too high. The patio teases but the food truly disappoints. This place is not overpriced so I would say if you want great food go some where else but if you want mediocre, cheap food with a patio option this is the place for you.

La Jolla appears to be a restaurant with a good atmosphere and a nice patio; however, it completely disappoints in both service and food. I’ll touch on the food first, which came in really small portions. If you’ve ever had authentic Mexican food, this is far from it. I had the chorizo burrito platter, and the burrito was the size of an El Monterey frozen burrito — same thing for the chimichanga platter. Chips are subpar, as is the salsa. Second, the service was pretty awful. Granted I was with a party of 20, rudeness from the waitstaff is completely unacceptable — especially considering the automatic 18% gratuity. One example of this rude behavior came about when a person in our party asked if the ceiling fans could be turned on, to which the waiter responded that they didn’t work. Interesting, because the fans suddenly started working about 20 minutes later. Another example came after we received the bill. One person in our group took the responsibility of figuring everybody’s individual totals and wrote them on the back of the receipt. During this process, he identified that we had been wrongly billed for a tequila shot and an extra margarita. After some arguing with the waiter, he finally agreed to adjust it. However, when he brought back the new receipt, he threw away the original receipt. When we asked for the original receipt back, the waiter started yelling at us, saying that we should stop complaining about the accidental billing of the shot and margarita. He never actually listened to the fact that we just wanted the original receipt to get the totals for everybody that were written on the back. This extremely unprofessional behavior has deterred me from ever visiting that restaurant again. They do have nice outdoor seating and TVs, but that’s about it. Mediocre food and poor customer service earn La Jolla a «Meh.»

Worst food of any place I have ever reviewed. The food is absolutely terrible. There was a reason my mom packed lunches for me when I was in grade school. This place brings back memories of bland servings that are spruced up by adding tons of salt. Come eat here if you want to vasoconstict those arteries. However, the atmosphere at this place takes a back seat to no one. The outdoor patio overlooking the main strip of Broadripple is the place to see and be seen. My recommendation to anyone coming here is to eat in advance, and sit outside all day and load up on drinks. That in all honesty is a four star experience. They need to add another person to their shifts too. They seemed to be swamped, unless someone called in sick, which is why I would limit it to four stars in that scenario. Drinks and people watching? Yes!!! Food? No. Even the chips and salsa are a major Fail. Sticking a chip on your tongue is the equivalent of licking a block of salt. La Jolla can be a great experience, I will definitely come back, and I would recommend it highly as long as you take eating out of the equation. Consider yourself warned, and have fun!

This is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. The food all seemed very fresh and the large portions were worth the money. I highly recommend the nachos, I am quite a nacho lover and have been craving these ever since I first had them! I went in the winter, but I can imagine it is a great place to be once the weather gets warm! I am not sure if they have gone through new ownership or something since all the negative comments, but I personally think it was great and would recommend giving it a try.

I am a little surprised by the negative reviews especially since this place is always PACKED in the Summer. I really like La Jolla the food is good and the patio is great. I would love to say that the service is wonderful but it does fit with the casual nature of the restaurant. The servers seem as if they are friends with a lot of the customers. This may result in them spending a bit too much time chatting but hey your time for chatting will come :-) I have been in Indy for almost 2 years and I have made sitting on the patio during the Summer for lunch my thing to do.

La Jolla was a good place when it first open. It’s a dive now. The food is bland, not exactly Mexican, and poorly prepared. Stay away if you know what’s good for you.

There is a simple answer to why this place is always packed… the HUGEPATIO! It’s a great place to sit outside and people watch, or be seen, which I suspect is the reason a lot of people sit out there. I like the patio there. If I was allowed I would sit there and not order anything at all, and just enjoy the people watching. Why wouldn’t I order anything? You ponder quietly to yourself… Well, the food is atrocious, the drinks are weak, and the service is terrible on it’s best day. Oh, and they allow people to sit with their dog’s on the patio, a cardinal sin in my opinion, mostly because I almost got bit by a guys dog one day when I walked up to the patio. But also I find it slightly unsanitary. So back the the food, well, I’ve never had anything good there. And remember, I don’t usually opine that there is such thing as bad Mexican. Even the salsa they give out free is crap. I just wish that this place would close up, because a much better restaurant deserves to have that bad-ass patio.

I have been here a few times and never had a bad experience. I like their large deck. The avocado and white cheese quesadilla is very good and unique and i get it everytime. Their margaritas are the usual. I would suggest getting beer instead. Dos Equis. Because like most margaritas they are just so syrupy.
