Really good food and homestyle atmosphere. We had the fried chicken, fish and roast beef Manhattan! All were delicious! The sides are great too, Mac and cheese is creamy and the collard greens are some of the best I’ve ever had! Hubby really enjoyed the corn cakes and our 3 kids want to go back. Hands down best food I’ve had in a long time and the waitstaff is fast and friendly!

The food was ok not the best Soul Food that I have had but decent. I went on a Sunday with my sister and our friend and if you dine it you have to eat family style and everyone has to pick a meat and share the family size sides which is more expensive so I ordered take out. They only accept cash so we had to go to an ATM which was super inconvenient. However, it was definitely better then Kountry Kitchen.

Do not hesitate. This is the best restaurant I have visited in awhile. Fried Chicken is fantastic, all sides were excellent. We’ll be back for more.

The food quality is great. The service we received, was not so great. There were only two waitresses for the whole restaurant, in which they had to run the cash register and handle take out orders too. Our waitress kept getting pulled to do the take out orders and register(understandable), but once she got done she only took the orders of the new tables that were sat. We waited for over 45 minutes and she didn’t come back to refill our drinks or food or even offer take home boxes. She walked right past our table and didn’t even acknowledge us. You could tell she was frustrated from getting constantly pulled to do take out orders and such. All her tables were neglected. They have good food, but if you’re wanting a place that lives up to their name(all you can eat with refills) .this is not your place.

This place is a great standby for Southern comfort food. Their sides can stand alone: candied yams, collard greens Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes… All are delicious. Try the meatloaf or fried chicken… And don’t forget the chess pie!

I cannot believe I have not reviewed this place! Shame on me. I have been going here for many many years and the two ladies that work there actually know me! That’s how much I’ve been going there over the years, they remember my son and I watched him grow up over the years. Anyways I’m getting a little sidetracked here but you got to get the fried chicken mashed potatoes greens, green beings, fried cabbage. I’ve tried a lot of the other stuff for meatloaf pan fried chicken, the ribs and really the fried chicken is the best in my Opinion.

Oh, let me count the ways that I love you! Mississippi Belle is the absolute place to eat if you love good old fashioned home cooked food, or soul food as they sometimes call it. They serve you family style which means the food keeps coming and coming and coming as long as you want to stuff yourself. You tell them when to stop bringing the food. They have meatloaf, rubbed ribs, fried chicken, smothered pork chops, roast beef to name a few and then of course the sides which are macaroni and cheese, fried corn, fried cabbage, sweet potatoes, green beans, greens, mashed potatoes and gravy. They are all great choices, you won’t be disappointed. The ordering process goes like this… each person orders a main dish and then you can order 4 sides. You also get your drink included. They have sweet tea of course along with pepsi products and lemonade. The food is beyond fabulous, it truly is like Mama’s cooking. The ribs fall off the bone, the meat loaf is just like you remember from childhood, it comes with an amazing sweet and tangy ketchup sauce. The smothered pork chops are so tender they fall off the bone and the gravy makes your eyes roll back into your head. The fried chicken is perfectly seasoned and always fresh. Make sure you wear some comfortable clothes that leave room for expanding because you will need them when you visit Mississippi Belle. I have been going here for years and have never been disappointed.

The Hot water corn bread is amazing and a must have. The waitresses are very attentive and give you awesome service. I HIGHLY recommend this place.

10 tips before dining at Mississippi Belle: (01) Make sure your stomach is empty before coming, and make no plans to eat afterwards. This meal will stuff you to the brim. My pick: Sunday lunch. (02) Wear stretchy pants and leave your belt at home. Portion control does not exist here. (03) Do not be dismayed by the décor and the vinyl table cloths and seats. Do you come to a restaurant to gawk over the interior? No, you come to eat the food! (04) Bring friends. Although you order your own meat, you share the sides, and all of the food comes with free refills. (05) Do not bring any friends who are on a «health kick». There is virtually nothing on the menu for them, and they will be horrified by the«unhealthy» options. (06) Meatloaf is a fine choice. The beef combined with the bits of veg. are super moist and saturated in a tangy red sauce. It’s just as good, if not better, than mom’s. (07) It is perfectly acceptable to order both the mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes during your visit. Both contain butter and love and more butter. (08) Do not be ashamed to ask for a refill of everything. Delicious home-cooking deserves to be properly appreciated. (09) Try to save room for dessert, but know that there’s no chance that will happen, because you will eat enough of it in sweet potatoes. (10) Fit in a post-meal nap, because you’re bound to go into a food coma, and remember that you can always go for a run tomorrow.

It is always a pleasant experience when we dine at Mississippi Belle. First of all, the service is always friendly and welcoming. Everyone chooses their meat then the table shares four sides. You can take your leftovers home, unless you get refills during dinner. The restaurant is cash only. I love their baked chicken as well as the fried chicken. My husband says their beef Manhattan is the best he’s ever had. Their chess pie is also delicious, if you have any room left at the end of the meal!

The hot water corn bread was surprisingly good, I’d go back for this and maybe the ribs. The chicken and fish together with the greens, mac&cheese, corn and sweet potato sides were just alright. Not a fan of the cash only setup, but the price was good for the amount of food you can get.

If Indianapolis has something, it’s this! Mississippi Belle is BOMB!!! It just so happens that we came here when they were having their Sunday Family Style deal. I’ll get into that in just a second. This restaurant had plenty of parking, which was nice. Our waitress was on it! She was taking care of half the restaurant and didn’t seem to miss a beat. The waitresses and waiters seriously work their tushes off here. So let’s get to the food now, shall we? Here’s what the Sunday Lunner Special included: Each person picks 1 meat and everyone shares 4 sides(these a huge sides). So we ordered: Fried chicken Ribs Collard greens Sweet potatoes Mac and cheese Cornbread dressing That was THEBESTFRIEDCHICKEN we’ve ever had in our lives! It was just perfect. The ribs were good, but not AMAZEBALLS like the Fried Chicken. All the sides were on point. It was the first time we had cornbread dressing, it came with slices of tomatoes and onions. We found ourselves really enjoying it and craving for it a few days later. The tomatoes and the onions complimented the cornbread so well. So for the Sunday Lunner, you can opt to do the All You Can Eat, where you can get unlimited refills of the meats and sides. The only catch is that you can’t take any leftovers home. There was so much food already that we didn’t even need to order refills for anything. The sweet tea was also bomb! SUPERTIP: IT’S CASHONLY!!! So come prepared. Will we be back? Oh god, I hope so!

I love that this place is so close to me. I’m from the south and sometimes you want comfort food that reminds you of home. This place is just perfect for that. I only go at lunch when it’s cheaper. I have had the meatloaf and fried chicken. Both were really delicious. I always get the green beans, Mac n cheese or mashed potatoes with gravy. I’ve never had a negative dining experience, ever. And I’ve ate here many times. The décor is just sad. But I don’t think people eat here because of the ambience. There is plenty of parking. They only do the family style dining at dinner time. It costs almost twice as much as eating lunch. Never seen the restaurant crowded but the staff is always very friendly and prompt. Bring cash, I don’t think they take credit cards.

So this was my family’s first time here to the highly recommended Mississippi Belle. I have to say, I was disappointed. I had high hopes coming in because so many people had nothing but great things to say. I will say that their service was good, but the food, just ok. We were greeted very warmly and our waitress was nice. I’m not trying to be a downer, but it wasn’t worth the trip. I had desired some smothered pork chops and we didn’t want to drive to Kountry Kitchen so we figured we’d give this place a try. The pork chops were very dry and the gravy not very flavorful. The sides were bland. Hot water-cornbread…not a fan. I will say their Mac and cheese was great: it reminded me of my aunt’s Mac and cheese. Many people may not like it because it was a bit peppery, but it has its place. The fried chicken was ok; nothing special. One unique thing I found about this restaurant was that, they offer a sort of buffet-family-style setup. When you order, everyone picks a meat(you pay per meat) and everyone at the table shares 4 sides. You can eat as much as you want, however if you order 2nds, you’re not allowed to take your food home. I understand that policy, because it keeps you from ordering food you’re not going to eat, but isn’t that a waste. Aren’t they going to throw the food away anyway? Or are they??? I know when you go to a buffet you can’t take food home, but you also don’t have food sitting at your table. You go to the line and get the food you want. And they throw the food away from your table. There’s no food sitting under your breath and they come to clear the table, not sure what they’re doing with the food… I don’t know. That thought alone troubled me a little. We probably won’t go back.

Our group of 5 had dinner here last night. We arrived at 6:30 and there were only 3 other tables occupied. We had read reviews prior to going so we were prepared to pay with cash. We had never had salt water cornbread or fried corn before. Everything was delicious. Our server, Sandra, was very nice. We did not need to ask for refills on any of the food and a lot of the leftovers were taken home. Everyone left very full and very happy. We will definitely be eating here again.

Hold up, hold up. Hold. The. Hell. Up. Free refills on the meat and sides? Say whaaaaaaaaaat? Yes, that is correct. Although, if you do get refills on the food you can’t pack it up and take it home at the end of the meal. So eat your fill if you get refills. And with the way the food tastes here, you’ll probably get refills. We came here on a Sunday and had the fried chicken and the ribs with collard greens, sweet potatoes, Mac and cheese, and the cornbread dressing. As good as I’ve had anywhere and that includes home made meals made by friends from the south. I also read that service here was bad. We didn’t experience that at all. Our server was kind, courteous and checked on us regularly. If you’re in Indy and got a craving for some southern food then this is the place to go! You won’t be disappointed.

This resturant is amazing! Served family style. Each person picks there meat and the table chooses 4 sides to share. Our table got meatloaf, fried chicken and porkchops. Bring friends. the amount of food you get is too much, one meal could feed two. The fried chicken is classic and done right; the meatloaf was very good. The mac and cheese was amazing– cheesy, creamy, heavenly etc. The mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans were great as well. Their fried biscuits were the bomb! Get the sweet tea. The food was great and well done, but the service was even better. Our waitress was a total sweetheart and guided my friend through the infinite amount of choices on the menu. Long story short, go to Mississippi Belle with a group of friends and try everything on the menu. it will not disappoint! P. S. We had zero room for any dessert, but our waitress said only on Sundays they make peach cobbler that is out of this world. it looked like a dish of heaven!

FRIEDCHICKEN!!! This is the best fried chicken since my grandma was alive! Mississippi Belle would have made her very, very proud. Rib meat falls right off the bone. Incredible breading on the pork chops. Excellent Greens, Corn, fried Cabbage and Sweet Potatoes. Sweet Tea just like grandma used to brew. Double thumbs up to Mississippi Belle!!! Everyone at this table is full and smilin’ ear to ear :) Yes to the FRIEDCHICKEN with DARKMEAT!!!

I’m sorry but I just don’t taste it. The stellar difference between this place here and Kounty Kitchen is not a question; Mississippi Belle underperforms. My sister and I stopped by yesterday as we were in the area and based off reviews on Unilocal. But we were not a little bit surprised that the food DIDNOT live up to the hype. Mississippi Belle is in a small complex off to the side of 54th street. Once you get inside, there is not much décor wise, though they try. Bathrooms were clean. Service was good and personable. In fact, she allowed us to sample the ribs and pork chops before we got them. Per the server’s’ recommendation, we got the all you can eat meal. I got the ribs, my sister got the smothered chicken. We ordered the mac & cheese, greens, mashed potatoes and yams. We also got pork chops on the side. and thank God we did as that was the star of the meal. Juicy and breaded well, the pork chops delivered. I love the sweet potatoes. But the greens were standard. The mac and cheese was made straight from blue box, just with more pepper than usually(I HATE when mac is made like that) and smothered chicken lacked favor. The cornbread was fried really hard… left much to be desired. My ribs were alright; came off the bone. But same in comparison to Kountry Kitchen or Good Home Cooking. Nothing special though. We didn’t get refills for the all you can eat meal. We think our server got the hint we were dissatisfied. I still have ribs in my fridge. We moreso left questioning if the need to visit Kountry Kitchen because maybe they had changed since we have been. Proclaiming on its menu to the best in Indy, this place failed to bring it. I would skip Mississippi Belle and plan to do so for now on.
