RCA Dome

If it wasn’t for the existence of Monster Park in SF, this place would be the worst stadium in the league. Thankfully, the Colts, who deserve way better, are getting a new stadium this upcoming football stadium. The bad news is that all the upper deck rows are bleachers, so you technically do not have a seat. You just have a section of the bleachers. The good news is that the stadium is so small that there really isn’t a bad seat in the house.
Even though I am Asian, I have a penchant for white girls. Call it reverse yellow fever, and there alot of cute ones at the stadium. I guess it is the Midwest. One thing I don’t get is why the majority of people tuck their jerseys into their pants. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one person do that in California. I just want to go over to each one of them and say «Untuck your jersey out of your pants. It looks ridiculous!»

Thankfully for Indianapolis, they are getting a new stadium come fall. I never understood why Indianapolis was getting a new stadium when the RCA Dome was only about 25 years old. OK, OK, Now I get it!!! The concourses are awful. It took us at least a half hour to get out of the stadium. Stadium operations sucked! They never put up any statistics (and this, in the information, fantasy FB age), and replays were erratic. I hope this changes at Lucas Oil Stadium come fall.
The atmosphere itself is great. The Colts fans are loud, passionate and hospitable. As a San Diego Charger fan at the Divisional playoffs, I was definitely in enemy territory. I didn’t receive too much needling, only by one fan and that was all in fun. The fans made the RCA Dome a great atmosphere.
We went out to eat before the game, so I didn’t try any of the food. It looked like everyone had the nachos. They looked good and were more than just the nuclear orange cheese sauce with chips. An average venue that should improve greatly when Lucas Oil stadium opens.

They are building a bigger stadium for the 2009 NFL season as this one is a bit small to handle the Colts fans. However, it’s great as an indoor stadium — good way to watch the games in the dead of Indiana winter — inside and warm. A plus for being a small stadium is that all the seats are really good. No real nosebleeds here. And there are good places to eat and drink on the way to the Dome. Good times had by all.

The Colts are a great team for a while now. Why don’t they have a bigger stadium? The RCA dome is one of the smallest stadiums out there. Because of this, lots of the fun stuff happen outside before the game. And why do they not let people in until about 1hr before kick-​off? If it’s cold out there it sucks! :(The team makes up for it though… fun to watch. Awesome fans. Almost everyone had somekind of Colts jersey on. I saw the 2004 game against the Raiders. Colts won 35 – 14.

I was at the RCA Dome recently for a Colts-​Broncos game. I was a bit underwhelmed by the facility, but thankfully it looks like Indy will have a fantastic new stadium by next football season.
On the plus side, since the stadium is so small there really aren’t any bad seats. I know, because I started out the game about five rows from the top and I still had a good view. It’s a clean facility, if old-​fashioned, and there are way more hard liquor vendor stands here than I remember seeing in the last few sports venues I’ve been in. And the bathrooms are pretty decent for a packed stadium.
On the down side, well… the size. It’s really not big enough for football, especially considering the Colts’ recent success. This means that scalpers can get away with murder. I was surprised to find that the cheap seats are actually bleachers! The biggest downer is that the tailgating is so weird, sparse, and spread out around town because the new stadium construction is taking out all the parking lot space. :(Lame!
I’m definitely looking forward to checking out the new stadium next year… hopefully the parking situation is also improved so that the tailgating can heat up.
