Spice Box

The best indian food I’ve had!!! Spice Box is a great way to experience indian food for the first time. I also recommended two, three, or twelve times after the first time, but I also recommend doing the whole city market experience :)

Had the chicken tikki spice wraps today (2 for $ 7). Chunks of chicken tikki and grilled onions wrapped roti, served with a side of mint chutney. All of the flavor components were good, however the wraps were lacking that «something else.» Not sure if it needed a fresh component, like tomatoes — or maybe some type of yogurt sauce. I won’t say that the wraps by themselves were dry, but they were just plain. I doused my wraps with the chutney, but didn’t have enough for both wraps.
I will probably be back to try other items.

As a red-​blooded American, I’m accustomed to food that is loaded with salt, oil, and comes in heaping portions. None of this is what you’ll get with Spice box.
The food is rich in flavor, but might, at first taste, seem like it «needs a little salt». After a few bites, I eventually adjusted. The folks at Spice Box made their ingredients the star of the show rather than hiding them behind cheap cover ups. While this was immediately off putting, it was ultimately refreshing. The portions, to an American eye, may seem a little small, but I left satisfied.
Recommended eating: Try the Palak Paneer (spinach and cheese).

I don’t have a lot of experience or exposure to Indian cuisine. However, Spice Box was a perfect introduction!
I went on a Friday at noon. Although the City Market was bustling, my Channa spice box was ready in 5 minutes or less. The chickpea curry came with spiced basmati rice and was very filling. I left satisfied but not stuffed– which is exactly how I like it. I didn’t feel bogged down the rest of the day!
If you’re looking for quick, casual, filling, and healthy Indian food: this is your place! I can happily say I will return to Spice Box!

enjoyed a Spicy Shrimp Bollywood, add Spice Rice for $ 1 and a can of coke for a total of $ 11.99 w/​tax. the food was delicious and the service was friendly but portions were slightly smaller than expected for the cost. located just inside the West doors of City Market.

While the food isn’t bad, it’s disappointing. I’ve eaten here twice and both times I’ve felt cheated with how dry the spice box is. I’ve had both the Channa and Palak Paneer, and they just really skimp on how much they put on the bed of rice. One time the naan was good and the other it was hard and a little stale tasting. If you’re looking for good Indian, I wouldn’t recommend Spice Box.

I’m a HUGE fan of Indian food and this is not very good. Also the portion sizes are really small for what you pay, paid $ 11 for lunch and left hungry. Won’t ever go back. Lacks quality and value.

I was somewhat disappointed with the food, but the service was good.
I have several friends that really like Spice Box and I really wanted to like it as well. However, I’ve tried it twice now and both times I was underwhelmed by the food. The first time I tried it was at the City Market and I had the special, which was garlic lamb. It was recommended by the man taking my order and assured me that it had a bit of a spiciness to it. When I got the food and took the first bite, I remember thinking how extremely dry it was. The flavor was decent, not great. For the price of the food, I felt like it was not nearly as good as the man suggested.
My second experience was with the food truck and I was hoping it would redeem the first. They only had a couple options and I believe mine was called the «spice box», or something with «box» in the title. When I got it, it reminded me of Yat’s, but not quite as good. It had rice with a sauce on it with some naan served on the side. Again, I was underwhelmed by the flavor and still found it dry despite the sauce on it.
The service was always friendly, but considering all of the other options that are typically around the food truck as well as in City Market, I would rather go with something that I know for sure I am going to like.

Great Indian/​Southeast Asian spot in the City Market with a mix of traditional favorites and some modern takes. The whole menu is delicious but my favorite is the Naan tacos. Not the biggest bargain in the world but you definitely get a fresh, flavorful meal for your money.

Adding Spice Box to my list of City Market faves! Recently stopped in and had an awesome lunch.
The service was top notch. I forgot the guys name, but he was so pleasant and not to mention adorable! I mean, you just don’t get service like that often. The menu was pretty fascinating. They offered a variety of Indian fare including more traditional items such as spicy shrimp or chicken tiki. They also offered unique creations such as the Naan wrap, tandoori shrimp tacos, and the Bombay box which consists of spiced rice, chicken, and egg. I absolutely love naan, so I just had to try the Naan wrap with shrimp and an Indian soda, Limca. All and in it cost me $ 11 and some change. Not too bad. There was an up charge for the shrimp.
After a fairly short wait, I received my food and was ready to dig in. I love that someone took the time to handwrite «It’s all about that spice» on the inside of the take out container. Too cute! Now time to eat! I was hooked after one bite! The combination of shrimp, salad, and Indian sauce wrapped in warm Naan was purely delicious. I was so disappointed when my food was gone. It was so light, and I wanted more!
This place is absolutely fantastic! I know there are some pretty incredible places to eat at City Market. I can’t recommend enough taking a break from your favorite spot and checking out Spice Box. I’m excited about my next visit. Those tandoori tacos are already calling my name!

I don’t like to pass out 5 stars to just anyone, seriously. But After several lunchtime visits to Spice Box in the city market, I wasn’t able to dock them for a single thing!
The Food — AMAAAAZING! it’s fresh, modern, hot, perfectly portioned, and it visits you in your dreams the following night. I’m partial to the Chicken Tikki and the Naan wrap. After eating at Spice Box, you don’t feel guilty or tired, you feel refreshed and ready to go tackle the rest of your day.
The Service — Just as amazing as the food! Every time I’ve been here, I’ve not only been greeted with a smile, I’ve also been given expert and unique recommendations on things to try or add to my food. That kind of service really helps mix things up and always keeps things new and exciting.

The Spicebox was the first Indian food I had ever eaten. After eating here I decided that I would not try Indian food again. I wish I had nice things to say about the food but I thought it was awful. Everything was dry and overcooked and used way too much curry. Thank goodness a friend has since convinced me to try Indian cuisine at other restaurants. I love Indian food now. However, I will not try Spicebox again.

Tried their double entrée for $ 9 with the spicy rice add on for $ 1. It comes with a half tandoori naan. I selected egg curry and chicken tikka (they call it tikki for some reason). The egg curry was tasty. Their chicken tikka I have always held has less cream than required and a slight excess of tomato purée. Apart from that it was filling and enjoyable.
Having the 10% off on Unilocal made the experience even sweeter.

One of the best things about being a gamer is GenCon Indianapolis – a four-​day mecca of all things nerdy, attended annually by 55,000 gamers from places all over the world. And, of course, all of those gamers have to eat!
In recent years, GenCon has called upon the numerous food trucks in and around the Indianapolis area to provide some awesome food options for tho hungry gamers. And, without fail, they’ve been a massie hit.
This time around, I got a chance to sate my list for Indian food at Spice Box, the food truck arm of an Indy institution. And, while the food was great, I did have some minor quibbles.
Meal speed was a thing of precision and clockwork. Despite the long lines at all of the food trucks at GenCon, I had ordered and received my meal in less than 10 minutes. Admittedly my order was not too complex: chicken Tikka, rice, and some roti, but speed is definitely appreciated.
The food itself was fiery and delectable. The rice was properly cooked and the chicken had a wonderful afterburn that left my mouth tingling. However, there simply wasn’t enough chicken or sauce to actually cover my rice. Further, the one half-​slice of roti that cae with the meal was just not enough to make a good accompaniment.
Spice Box was tasty but their portion size just doesn’t level ouout againsagainst the cost. Give me a full serving of curry and two pieces of roti, and this would be a four or five star review!

Got the Tandoori Tacos. They were very good. Would have asked for less onions or picked a few off. The onions ended up being the strongest flavor and while I like onions, I wanted to taste the other things more. I’m motivated to recreate something like this at home — couldn’t do it exactly I’m sure. I loved the crispy outside of the taco. I think that I would have preferred to pay about $ 8 for what I got. Almost $ 10 after taxes without even a tip was a little high. It came to $ 9.81. Anyway, I would definitely go back and try something else! Staff was really friendly & helpful.

I had never had Indian food until Spice Box. My first experience was the food truck from a recommendation by a friend. I got the naan wrap. SO good!
I quickly realized that it was faster to go to the city market to grab something from them and there’s always a full menu. I also like the walk to work off any awesome food I eat.
I finally got to share this wonderful place with my husband at the Sun King Anniversary Party. He loved it! I see a lot more Spice Box trips in my future.

I am a huge fan of the food truck so I was absolutely thrilled to find Spice Box in City Market.
I’m a vegetarian, and Spice Box offers several vegetarian entrees. I stood in front of the menu for several minutes in wonder, considering all of my options.
I decided on the palak paneer, a delicious spinach dish. The spicy rice was perfect and the naan was very tasty.
The food is seasoned just perfectly, portions are generous and very reasonably priced. Service is very fast and friendly.
I work downtown and plan to become a regular customer.
Thanks, Spice Box, you have given me a reason to stop my usual practice of eating lunch at my desk.

In City Market you have a lot of opportunities to try local and international flavors. Don’t miss out on Spice Box for quick and very delicious Indian food. Their Chicken Tikka and their Channa are the best versions of those dishes in the city. Every meal comes with rice + naan.
The food is fresh, perfectly seasoned, and the naan is so good you could count it as dessert. There’s always plenty of seating on the second level of City Market for a more relaxed lunch with great people watching.

Hopefully Spice Box in the city market sticks around, because it’s an excellent place for a vegetarian and/​or vegan lunch stop. Aloo Gobi and Chana are a great combination with spicy rice and some naan.
It’s ready fast and it’s super tasty. The guy working there for Brew Bracket last weekend was really helpful and nice — he explained some of the recipes and chatted with me about the food while I was waiting. Love it!
