I recently moved to Indy and have been trying to find a good place to get a cut, I was in the area and thought I’d give this place a shot. I came in and was able to immediately have a seat to get my hair cut. Quintin was the barber who cut my hair, and while I gave him the most vague description possible of what I wanted done, this guy was able to nail it! It’s very apparent from my visit, and my hair, that this guy knows what he is doing. He was very patient, checked multiple times to make sure it was how I wanted, and I still can’t emphasis the amount of skill he put into just some random persons hair when he could have just rushed me through. Price is very reasonable, the atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable, the shop has an awesome classic feel about it, and they end it all with a nice razor shave on the neck! Highly recommend this shop if you want a superb, thorough cut with good people!

Great place. I’m particular about how my haircut turns out and how I spend my money, and this place has my recommendation hands down.

Two barber chairs, they take appointments during the week but first in, first out on Saturdays. Really nice atmosphere, they have big band, Rat Pack type music playing softly and the 20 year old(yes 20, not a typo) cat that lives in the shop is shy but friendly if you make the first move. Sandy is a total pro and has some great stories to tell. Matthew is not quite as experienced as Sandy but he plays it strictly old school… white barber’s jacket, bow tie, cuff links… he definitely takes pride in his profession. I tried this barber shop because my two favorite barbers left Red’s and I thought that was a good clue to take a look around. I’m glad that I did.

Passing through town, I was telling myself, «Let your hair down! Let it grow!» But, alas, I love a tight tapper and can rarely let my hair grow too much. I was drinking some Calvin Fletcher Coffee next door and while walking by I noticed a gentleman with a bow tie, cuff links, and an old school look, so I figured he could give me the look I wanted. I walk in, ask if an appointment is necessary, and he welcomes me to his chair. My basic take: he did a great job with the clippers, but needs a little improvement with his scissors. The sides and back are perfect, but the top is is only OK, hence the 3 stars. Both of the employees were very kind and easy to talk to, so it was a nice barber shop experience, so if you are looking for a new barber in Indy, I think it is worth a shot, but…

Really great place! Sandy is super friendly and gives a darned good haircut. Happiest I’ve been with my haircut in a while. Glad I decided to check the place out.

I’ve been to plenty of barbershops in my time, half for the experience of going to a barbershop and half for the quality of the haircut I end up with. I can be a bit of a nitpicker, though, and there aren’t many shops where I don’t find something to gripe about, from how my haircut looks to the way some barbers drag their feet in getting to customers. Then, I dropped in on barber Sandy Bristow, owner of The Barber The Hairdresser in Fountain Square. I no longer have anything to complain about. First off, Sandy is a true master of her trade, having more than 40 years of experience cutting hair in the Indianapolis area. Her years cutting hair in downtown Indy and at the Riley Towers barber shop provide a wealth of great stories about the many famous heads she’s trimmed among local and state politicians and celebrities and interesting experiences she had at those previous jobs. Sandy is equally talented as a barber and a storyteller, and you’ll find yourself looking forward to the next time your hair gets shaggy, so you can return for another dose. For younger guys like me, having a barber like Sandy is like having a wise, caring grandmother who can cut a mean head of hair. And, I never leave the shop without learning something new, whether it’s a historical fact, advice, a new health tip or a useful home remedy. She’s got a million of all these things. And, after she finishes my haircut and slaps some Lime-Sec tonic on the back of my neck, I leave the shop looking, feeling and smelling like a million bucks. Who could ask for more than that?
