I had high expectations!!! So disappointing!!! I heard some good things about this truck. I guess u can’t take everything people say. I paid $ 10 for 8 wings and fries. No drink!!! I asked for ranch dressing; they gave me Caesar dressing. I am sorry colored folks can’t get it right!!! The ketchup to watery. Stop being cheap… first and last time I will order anything from them…

Ordered a veggie plate. Mac n Cheese(horrible don’t buy), Cabbage(aaiight if you throw some hot sauce on it), Greens(good), Yams(good) & black eye peas(need seasoning also). I’ve only come here for bean pies only which are always 5 *‘s. I will continue to get the pies but the food not so much. The fish looks good. Maybe I will try that next time. P. S. The Melonade is very good.

The quizzical company name, the boring metal food truck, the un-eye catching sign… it’s all a front. During Ciclavia South LA, they had a food truck at one of the hubs. We asked them what«Shabazz» is and we got some uninteresting answer. We have no idea why but we still ordered the fried fish anyway. The wait was long… and we started to feel regret. Then the fish came out and it looked so plain, I was mentally disappointed. We took a bite into it, and HOLYMOTHEROFGOD, it was so damn delicious! The breading to fish ratio was just perfect. The breading was thin and crispy and the seasoning was so flavorful that we didn’t even need to dip it in the tartar or hot sauce. The fish was red snapper and it was fresh and moist. So I relearned a life lesson, don’t be superficial and also got to eat some good food. At this point in my life, I will claim that this is the best fried fish I ever had. Hot damn!

Food was good and great service. I just didn’t care for the mac&cheese but the fish was well seasoned and healthy choices like blackened or naturally grilled which I luv.

First time here and we loved. We ordered Blacked Salmon and Turkey meatloaf and were delicious as was everything. But beware the food is so fresh that it will take a minute to be served.

Review NEGATIVE1! Long overdue! BEWARE! DONOTPURCHASE A GROUPONORVISITTHISPLACE — EVER! My daughter and I came here for my birthday last year as a groupon gift from someone. Our first time at any Shabazz restaurant. As soon as we walked in, we didn’t smell anything cooking, hear anything frying, or folks siting inside happy to be there. So at the time of ordering we mentioned to the young girl that we have a groupon and she immediately stated that we have to order from the dinner menu. Just to side-track a little, I believe the reason for that policy is to make sure they make some money at the end of the day due to the fact they rarely have any customers because the food is HORRIBLE! Continuing, we ordered two short rib dinners, cornbread and some mixed juices they make themselves I believe. When we received the food we were shocked! The dinners looked like reheated potluck food and tasted as such! Food cooked in someone’s kitchen, placed in an aluminum pan, covered, driven to the restaurant and served right onto our plates. The food was mildly cold, gross and the cornbread was hard in some spots. After the 10th second of tasting our food, the lunch lady from the kitchen approaches us and ask«how’s everything tasting»? To save her face from looking completely humiliated, we said, «it’s different than what we’re used to»! What a crop of crap. What I really wanted to say is, you need to stick to cooking oatmeal! WTF! After she left, we immediately got up, left and threw the garbage into the garbage right outside their door! So, pleaseeeeee beware, do not eat here. They do not have enough customers to serve fresh food! I’ve also put Groupon on notice about this establishment.

I’ve passed by Shabazz for years and today was my first time going. I wasn’t disappointed. #1 As far as appearance goes, it’s your typical hole in the wall soul food joint. It was relatively clean from what I could see. Having a portable AC unit with it being 100 freakin degrees today definitely helped. Although I could eat here, it’s kind of small so I’d rather take it home. #2 The customer service was good. The woman behind the counter was very friendly. There were a couple of what I’ll assume are regular customers that came in after me and she knew them by name. Nice touch. #3 The food was good. I had the Comeback sandwich with the fried fish in it. That was probably some of the best fish I’ve eaten. It was fried perfectly and it was delicate and flaky. It came with lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, sliced bell pepper and mustard on a french roll. While the sandwich as a whole was large and definitely tasty, the mustard kind of took away from that great fish. The combo came with one side and a canned soda. I chose the french fries and my daughter had the mac and cheese. The fries were tasted great but were a bit salty and a tad soggy. That said, I love french fries and I’d definitely eat them again. The mac and cheese was solid. It wasn’t anything to write home about but it was seasoned pretty well and I liked the little bit my child allowed me to eat, lol. Overall, I’d say this was a good first experience at Shabazz. When I want some fish, I’ll definitely be checking them out.

Fish is seasoned well, some sides need improvement, drinks are full of sugar, bean pie not the greatest and they need to be more consistent in carrying all items on the menu, and also in preparing dishes. Sometimes I go and the food is perfect and fresh, the next day I can go(when there’s a different cook) and the food is less than enjoyable. The staff is always nice and friendly however and it’s a black owned and operated business so I like to support them, they just need to be more consistent and make minor improvements.

We enjoyed our meal from here. Had the fried snapper — I usually don’t eat fried but it was absolutely delicious. We loved all vegetables green. Can pass on the other sides in the future. We’ll be back for sure. Oh the bean pie was DELICIOUS. My sons had never tasted it before so we sampled it while waiting on the food order. We all agreed on the pie. One star less because of the timing. Just a little slower that we thought but it was good when we got it.

I usually catch them at the taste of soul. I stopped in because i was in the area for a shrimp basket. This place is like being at grandmas house. Everyone is warm and friendly. They even got on me because I ordered all starch and no vegetables. I love it. The food was amazing. Just what you would expect. I love hole in the wall restaurants.

I usually visit shabazz at food festivals like the Taste of Soul festival or the African Market Place festival. The actual restaurant this is my first time. I was good sad to say this particular trip I have had better fried fish. It was good though I would recommend it if you are in the mood for a little cheat day with fried yumminess!

The food looked good, but boy was I sadly disappointed. I only went here because I bought a groupon. Upon ordering I was told I had to order a special, so I bought the 25 $ family special 8 piece catfish 10 piece wings 2 large sides(I order mac, and yams) and two drinks of(homemade strawberry lemonade and green tea). Firstly I received the wrong side. I ordered mac and yams but received mac and cabbage,(maybe the were confused by my previous order, which I had to change because I bought a groupon. Then there is the«homemade“strawberry berry lemonade. There was nothing natural or delicious about it. Not even sure if it was homemade, and my green tea didn’t even drink it as there was a fly sitting in it. Not to mention while I was there they were making hibiscus punch but it was just sitting on the table open for anything to fly into. Lastly the fish, my oh my the«fish» I’ve had bad fish but never rubbery cat fish. It tasted over cooked and not like any catfish I’ve had before(I eat a lot of fish as I am a pescatarian oil as the chicken. My bf said the chicken was OK… Needless to say I won’t be going back, complete waste of money.

I was visiting my brother in the area(Hawthorne) & had a Groupon(20 for 40) & decided to use it here. The lady at the front was very pleasant — she noticed we were taking our time & really concentrating on what to order so she gave us a big break & let us order even though the Groupon was only valid for the dinner menu. The food does take some time to cook — but had a lovely experience here. We had the chicken strips, macaroni, fried fish — all of which were pretty good but the fried shrimp here is BOMB!!! I really want to get the lady’s name so I can give her a shout out for her superior customer service!

I have been here a few times and my visits have always been positive. The food is healthy oriented. I usually order the turkey burger special which comes with wedge fries and a can soda. The burger is not heavily salted nor are the fries which I love. I substitute the can soda for the hibiscus punch herbal energy drink and it is very light and less sweet than regular fruit punch. Because the food is low sodium I usually pick up an order for my dad who has to watch his blood pressure. If you can then call and order for pickup because everything is cooked to order and can easily take up to 20 minutes or even more during the lunch and dinner hours. The place is not the most eye appealing but it is a small mom and pop and it’s clean. I would suggest this place to anyone who is watching their sodium but wants a fast food break from cooking at home. The place is ran by Muslim folk and they have delicious bean pie desserts.

So I came here to «SHABAZZGOODFOODS» a few weeks ago cause I was in the neighborhood(LAX/Inglewood) and cause I saw the GROUPON for it. Plus my birthname is «Shabazz,» so this place is my namesake ;-) ========= LOCATION ========= Located in a strip mall off of Imperial Rd. in the heart of the ghetto /Inglewood. There’s seating inside… a few stools along a diner wall type thing. There’s one or two couched tables inside and one table outside. Would be nice if there were 2 – 3 more tables outside. ========= THEFOOD ========= ~ THECOMBACKSANDWICH — It was $ 5.99 on lunch special. Fried fish, tomatoes, lettuce, onion and a yellow tangy’ish sauce. Pretty good.(4⁄5) ~ SHABAZZFISH(REDSNAPPER) — Got a singular piece, had it grilled… pretty damn good. Awesome taste and texture.(4⁄5) ~ TILAPIA — Got this fried… it was pretty good. In between a 3 and 4… gonna give it a(4⁄5) ~ BEANPIE — It’s a religious inspired food. I’ve had better elsewhere.(2⁄5) ~ MAC N CHEESE — Pretty terrible. Not cheesy at all… very plain.(1⁄5) =============== FINALTHOUGHTS =============== It was pretty good. Wish I had bought the Groupon… could’ve sampled a large variety of the seafood both grilled and fried. Their grilled fish was better than normal and it was really, Really busy there. Small place but the traffic going in and out was continous. I recommend stopping by if you’re in the neighborhood. I’ll be back with a GROUPON in hand. Also there was a big sign inside that said: GROUPONCUSTOMERSWELCOME. Last off the name is: «SHABAZZGOODFOODS» cause there’s 2 other Shabazz-named places in Inglewood including a «SHABAZZSEAFOOD», which was super confusing…

I went there with the family on a Sunday afternoon. It is a hole in the wall. My 8 year old would not order because he did not like the appearance of the restaurant. However, once we were home eating he was eating everyone’s food. The fish was seasoned to perfection and fried just right. My 10 year old had shrimp and stated that it was great. The sides were not too great we had cabbage, mac and cheese, succotash, rice pilaf, and greens. Next time I will just get the fries. With each dinner they offer a free small cup of peach cobbler on Sundays and Mondays. I was glad to have a free sample because it was not worth buying. BOTTOMLINE: The fish is great.

Bean Pie, pineapple and blueberry cheese pies, YUMMY! That’s all I have to say about Shabazz Restaurant. Well not all, but that’s a great start. I was on my way to DJ’s Records and CD’s but I was hungry — For Real. As I was looking for a parking space I happened upon Shabazz so I decided to have lunch there. Let me tell you I was not disappointed. They make this really good chicken — it’s not fried although it looks as if it had been fried. It was golden brown and not too crispy, very light tasting and well seasoned. The cook said she grilled it and did something else that I don’t quite remember. For my two sides I had spinach(now spinach would not usually be my side of choice), however, it was very good and it was well seasoned too. For my second side I had black-eyed peas, that is a mainstay southern dish that goes well with just about everything. The peas were really, really good. The one thing I like about Shabazz is they don’t use any pork when cooking there green vegetables or peas. If you are not familiar with southern dishes and their cooks and how the foods are prepared you wouldn’t know that pork– you know bacon, ham hocks, salt pork are used in alot of southern dishes especially greens and peas of any kind. It is what gives the food it’s flavor. So to eat a dish that was not prepared in the traditional way and it was still delicious that says alot about the cooks ability in the kitchen. I must say I was very, very satisfied with my lunch today. They offer a nice menu, scrumptious made from scratch pies, if you’ve never had a slice of bean pie you don’t know what you’re missing. I grew up eating shabazz’s bean pie and cheese pies but I never ate at a restaurant. To drink they offer some of the usual — you know mountain dew, root beer. But if you want something a tad bit different and a bit more refreshing I recommend the Sahbazz line of punch and tea — hibiscus punch(that was delicious and complemented the food very nicely). The décor and atmosphere is welcoming, clean, comfortable and the staff are friendly and pleasant. I will definitely be returning. It’s not very big inside there are two tables one sits two comfortably and the other sits three comfortably and there is a lunch counter with about six chairs.
