Crazy loud atmosphere, which was more than fitting for the sports that were being shown on the television screens. I loved that the pizza I got(which I can’t remember, unfortunately) was way too big for me to handle, and as a result, I got to take some home to savor later! However, some parts of the pizza crust were a little burned and, well, unappetizing. The service was solid: nothing spectacular but nothing that detracted from my overall experience here. Would definitely come again!

Very good. Better than a lot of pizza in Chicago n burbs. Had thin crust and the flying tomato style. Cooked well done Sausage and sauce are flavorful A lot of cheese on the flying tomato. Crust is good on both will order again

After passing by many times, we thought we’d check this English pub out. It’s a pizza joint and were disappointed with the lack of any traditional items. If you’re a student or sports bar enthusiast check it out. In my opinion, aren’t there enough pizza places here?

Words cannot express my love for the Wig & Pen. Seriously the best Chicago-style pizza outside of Chicago… I have to thank fellow Unilocaler Brendan M. for introducing me to this cheesy, buttery deliciousness. There’s nothing like this in CA, and quite frankly the«Chicago-style» pizza I had at O’Hare failed miserably in comparison. The cheese was so fresh and melty. The tomatoes were the perfect mix of spice and sauce. The crust… OHTHECRUST… delectable buttery goodness. This is a required stop EVERYTIME I’m in the Cedar Rapids-Coralville-Iowa City area. GOHAWKEYES!

Decided to try out Wig & Pen for the first time as it came highly recommended by many friends. It was mid afternoon, busy, but there was no wait for a table. Our server was very attentive to our drink order. We ordered an appetizer which took way too long to get to us, but we figured the rest of our food would be out soon so no big deal. Our food arrived after waiting over an HOUR! My husband’s pizza(Chicago style Union Jack) looked delicious, but he said it did not taste very good. I ordered the Iowan. Again looked pretty good, but the crust tasted horrible and there was so much sauce it made a huge mess and my toppings would not stay on. After spending nearly 2 hours there and an insane amount of $ to try what we were told were good pizzas we will never be back. We could have had a couple nice steaks for the price or cheaper pizza that tasted a heck of a lot better. Also the couple at the table next to us was there before us and their pizza arrived AFTER ours and was burnt. They didn’t seem to mind the wait as they were watching the football game, but their remade pizza still had not arrived yet by the time we left.

Without doubt one of the best pizza’s I’ve had in my life. I’ve had the Chicago style and the Flying Tomato and both were superb. The cheese in the pizza is amazing. It has the prefect texture that you wish all pizzas had. The restaurant itself tries to go for an old British pub theme which is kind of weird for a pizza place. But once you had the pizza the décor will be the last thing you’ll be thinking about. For the price, I believe you get an extremely good value. Every time I’ve been to Wig & Pen I left full, and have taken the rest of the pizza home. If in the mood for pizza in Iowa City, this is the place to go!

Great spot on the strip, went today with the kids and ordered Chicago style. Everyone agreed that the pie was really good! We also had the nachos to start while the pizza cooked and they were great, highly recommend.

Their pizza is amazing. Hands down the best pizza in town. Chicago style deep dish loaded with amazing toppings. We probably eat here weekly. We’ve never eaten inside the restaurant, we just get to go. Make sure you check to see if you’re ordering from here or Wig and Pen east! We obviously made that mistake.

The absolute best pizza place in America. The cheese tastes like it was made fifteen minutes ago from cows that were fed a diet of butter and cream. The sauce tastes like the tomatoes were picked ripe right before being cooked. The crust is heavenly. If I had to choose between any famous Chicago pizza place and the Wig, it’s the Wig every time. Hands down.

Service — Fast and friendly. Reservations — Do make if taken. The place was packed for lunch, even in the rain! Food — Hit or miss. 1. Signature Soup — Overly salty and thick. It was literally a can of Chef Boyardee ravioli. It looks like they changed the recipe because I heard it used to be much thinner of a soup. 2. Pork Tenderloin Sandwich– Pretty good. Used to come unbreaded.

Not a bad place. We walked over kind of late from the hotel. The bartender was quiet but got everything we needed and did a great job. The bar itself was stinky and smelled like vomit. A guy from the kitchen came out(we thought it was the owner) and mentioned to other bar patrons that he had«killed the last stray cat that was out back» as he poured some cream into a saucer dish to bring outside haha! It was comical and made for a good laugh.

This is knife and fork, cheesy goodness pizza! We ordered flying tomato crust style, which led to thick, topping filled slices. The crust was crispy and flaky-almost pastry like-different from any other pizza I’ve had but definitely yummy. Be prepared to wait on a Friday night! The waitresses were hustling but it still took too long to get our drinks. Regardless, the pizza was great and will be back to try something new!

I have waited a YEAR to eat here and the pizza is as delicious and delectable as last year! How do we get a Wig and Pen in Southern CA? This is by far the best pizza we’ve ever had and it’s not like we don’t try pizza all the time all over the place! We have leftovers(woohoo!) which means a late night snack, possibly breakfast and maybe some left before the plane ride home! We ordered a small Chicago style and a small thin crust-it doesn’t matter what toppings you choose or whether it’s one of their specialties… they’re all awesome!

I haven’t had pizza this drop-dead delicious in… ever. Yep, dramatic but holy hannah this one’s worth it! If you like deep dish(if you don’t, how dare you), if you like hearty pizzas(umm hello it’s a pizza, let’s bulk up for winter together), and if you like ample sauce(because this is pizza we’re talking about, not cheesy bread)… then this is it. This is your pizza. I ordered the Chicago style stuffed pizza for takeout and got there before the pizza was ready. Despite being a jam-packed house and the fact that there was nowhere for me to stand but in the way, the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Speaking of the jam-packed house, the atmosphere had that of an old Irish pub — dark, comfortable, no-fuss.

After a HUGE disappointment at Tailgators, we came to The Wig. Immediately where were greeted and asked where we should sit. The girl that had seated us, immediately took our drink order and it was delivered promptly. AWESOME. Off to a great start! We then asked our waitress which appetizer would be best, and she replied that the bruschetta was probably the best option for us… And she was right! Awesome! We decided to split a small flying tomato pizza, which is always awesome. The reason why they are getting knocked one star, is due to the fact that she did not serve the first piece to us(it’s petty but they usually do) and the fact that she didn’t ask if we wanted another drink or anything, before bringing the bill. 9 times out of 10 this doesn’t happen. I love this place and will be back! Btw, the grinder is fricking amazing!!!

Why have I not given this place its due yet? I’m too busy enjoying the pizza! I’m a huge fan of the Flying Tomato Twickenham(sp?). Every pie I’ve had there though… Delicious. I love the crust thick or thin. I also love the fried button mushrooms. The service has always been acceptable if not always excellent. The only shortcoming, for which I deduct the sixth star, is how small the joint is. Still I’d rather wait in the rain or snow to eat here than any other pizza house in a hundred mile radius.

This place was quite the discovery. Driving by on route 6 I saw what looked like a very old establishment that, with the black paint all over just stands out against everything else. The first impression is that of ye olde Irish pub on a moor somewhere in the wilderness of Scotland. Inside, it is reminiscent of a cozy bar with the hustle and bustle of patrons and servers running helter– skelter. They have a Full bar and they offer their pizzas in 3 very different styles, I opted for the Chicago style Union Jack(pepperoni, mushrooms, cheese… mmmmmm) All in all a good bar to visit if you’re ever in coralville, with a very chilled out vibe, good service and very very good pizzas. 10⁄10 would visit again. I recommend.

Stopped by for a pizza. Very authentic Chicago pie. Not the best I’ve ever had, but probably the best outside of Chicago so far. The décor is english pub style and is very clean. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Prices are a little high… had to pay for every topping individually. If you’re close to the Coralville mall and want a good pie, this is worth a try.

I am a Chicagoan through and through. I know my pizza and I do not impress easily. With that disclaimer out of the way, I would like to freely shout out to the world that Wig and Pen has one of the best pizza’s I have ever eaten in my life! My husband and I ordered the Flying Tomato with ground beef, mushrooms, onions and jalapenos. ITWASAMAZINGLYDELICIOUS!!! The cheese was real cheese and generously piled on. It was fresh and cream… nothing imitation about it. We also ordered the cheese fries. I was expected gooey, velveeta-esq cheese on fries. NOPE! What appeared in front of us was a bit of heaven. The fries were coated in melted cheese that had been placed under the broiler. The fries were very crispy and the cheese baked to perfection. The combination was ridiculously perfect. I am still dreaming about those fries 2 days later :). The only thing that kept Wig and Pen from earning the full 5 stars was the fact that the service was sub-par. It took forever for our fries to come out, no one really checked on how we were doing and we would have liked to have our drinks freshened long before someone took the time to notice our glasses were empty. I am sure I will be a frequent patron of W&P in the future because the food was so good that I am willing to overlook the service… for now.
