I happened onto this gem thanks to a walk on a beautiful day. The décor is straight out of the 30’s and 40’s, with authentic Art Deco wall sconces and mahogany booths. The last page of the ample menu told me the Princess’s story, and about the soda fountain where I was seated, made from fine Italian marble. On discovering their shakes and malts are hand dipped, I ordered an old favorite, a chocolate and banana malt. I delighted in it from the first sip to the last. My lunch was a half pound of pure hamburger bliss, covered in crispy bacon and accompanied by real fries, not those shoestring things you get at other places. My server was friendly and more than happy to tell me stories of the place. She provided wonderful service above and beyond the norm. I will most definitely return here and I suggest it to anyone who happens by!

For a family member/owner, I found her to be extremely impersonable and uncaring. Scowling most of the time while dragging a garbage bag around. Be prepared to have cash or local check only. No ATM machine available. Food was minimal and overpriced for quality and quantity. Big disappointment.

Terrible service I was kicked out and told f*** off by the head waitress just for ordering a sunday after my meal, I guess they wanted to close for the night. When I called the next day talked to the owner she told me she already knew all about thank you. I would never eat here again. Food wasn’t even that good.

Pretty cool joint with an oldie worldie diner feel. The menu is pretty big and they have ice cream shakes and root beer and a diner bar as well as big group tables. The service is friendly and prompt. They boast a good AC system but really it is like ice air inside there. It’s nice on a hot day though. Diner style from the 60’s. Pretty cool.

If you want something with some history, The Princess is the place to go. In a downtown 1930s era building, the princess will run you over with its charm and history. Once you’re seated, try one of the fun drinks from the original soda fountain which is utilized in the front half of the building. Something as simple as a cherry coke will put a smile on your face. Years ago I found my favorite meal, smothered steak sandwich, it has such bang for such a low price! The French fries and ranch are also a must — so delicious that I find myself complaining and comparing about fries at other restaurants. This is a pizzeria, so naturally I should give you a little information about that. These pizzas are top notch, you just need to try it. Gooey cheese, fun toppings and square slices are just some key points. Give the princess a chance when you’re in town, you won’t regret it.

Very fun place to visit! It has a lot of history and really takes you back in time to the old burger joint cafes of the 50’s and 60’s! Great milkshakes and a big menu equals a must stop in the scenic city!

This was our FINAL trip back to Iowa for the summer after seemingly being here every weekend for a wedding. The wedding was in Iowa Falls and as is the case everywhere we go, my wife and I always seek out local tips on restaurants. We had coffee at the little shop across the street(which I will review another time) and they told us to eat across the way at the Princess Grill & Pizzeria(formerly known as the Princess Café), located at 607 Washington in Iowa Falls. Krystyn didn’t eat with me, but rather decided to hitch a ride back to Des Moines with some of her cousins to spend the day shopping… no big surprise there. That meant that I was either going to eat solo today or going to have to recruit some cousins. It wasn’t a problem… just tell them that you’re buying lunch and you’d be surprised to see how many people show up. There were six of us altogether. We arrived and were greeted by a friendly waitress who seated us right away. We walked by the GIGANTIC soda fountain on our way to our table and were immediately thinking about malts and shakes for after dinner. We were told that the soda fountain is the largest in the state of Iowa and from what I’ve experienced in my travels, they’re right about that. This place is decorated nicely and age-appropriate for the building(looked like between the 1930s-1950s in all décor). Nice comfortable wooden benches and chairs. The burgers came highly-recommended by our waitress, as did the pizza(I would hope so since it has the word«pizzeria» in the restaurant name). I don’t remember what everyone ordered, but I know that one cousin had the steak sandwich with fries and thought it was really good. I love a good burger and tried the«house» cheeseburger. It was cooked exactly how I asked and was served hot. You can’t really ask for more than that. Fries were crispy and not too greasy or salty. Nobody ordered the pizza but one table near us did and it looked VERY good. As expected, we all ordered malts(I had raspberry and the others did either vanilla or chocolate) and they were the bomb! This place is a great little family restaurant and was worth the visit. The prices are good, the food is good and it’s hard to beat the atmosphere of this place. As we were getting ready to leave the owner came to our table and asked us about our experience. They were polite and friendly and because of our experience, we’ll be back again sometime. I have no hesitations recommending Princess Pizzeria & Grill.

It was a decent diner experience. The inside was totally vintage, from the wood booths to the large soda fountain complete with vintage glasses and stools when you walk through the door. It was dimly lit and some great 80′ music blasted as you walked through the door. What we ate: The Large Chef Salad could have fed 4 people easily. Tons of Crisp lettuce with lots of cheese, meats, mushrooms, tomatoes and olives filled the bowl. The home made ranch was wonderfully prepared by who seemed to be the head waitress. It was lite but really seasoned well. The parmesan peppercorn was also homemade and very flavorful as well. We also shared a Bacon Cheese Burger. It was cooked nicely and had a lot of bacon and cheese. They know how do to med to med well burgers. The prices are responsible in my book. \ They also do not take credit or debit cards, this helps to keep the prices lower so they don’t have to build in the cost of using the machine. I can see where this might be a hindrance, but there’s a bank like a block away so if you need cash it’s close.

My recent visit to the Princess resulted in an upgrade to a stronger two stars. I had a pretty decent cheeseburger. It had a good grill crust and was seasoned to my taste. I must say I did enjoy it with lettuce, tomato and pickle. My lunch partner had a Reuben which looked pretty suspect. The corned beef was apparently commercial lunch meat stuff, so I would not order that. For future when this is the choice, I will stick to the burger.
