So I’m on my way to Fry’s and I’m hungry. There’s a plethora of options in this area, but for some reason I was craving a hot dog. Now at first I was thinking Sonic, but then A&W catches my eye and I think, «Why not a mug of frosty root beer and an iconic chili dog?» Well it takes me a while to spot the chili dog combo on the menu(dog, fries, drink) and at $ 4.99 I think it’s kinda steep, but maybe I will be surprised. The waiting area for the food is a tight squeeze. Maybe it’s not so bad at non peek times, but at lunch times it was like a game of bumper cars, sans the cars. My order is finally delivered and I take a seat. The first thing I notice is that the seating area is a mess. 25% of the tables are unusable due the the trash left behind. The next thing I notice is that some people get bona fide frosty glass mugs for their root beer, while I’m left with a paper cup. Why? Next is the root beer itself, which is flat and lifeless. Nowhere near the creamy smooth treat I remember. The chili dog(very regular size and not worth the price) and fries(a very small serving) are OK, and taste exactly like what one would expect from a fast food combo joint that this place is. I did notice that the Long John Silver’s menu was much busier than the A&W menu. Being a LJS means you have tartar and cocktail sauce to use as well(self-served into the tiniest paper cups I have ever seen), which I did try on my fries(I was going for the mayo-ketchup concept). All in the meal was barely OK and I found myself thinking I should have gone to the Sonic next door. To make matters worse, 30 minutes after eating I had to make a beeline for the bathroom. Whether it was the dog, the fries, the root beer, some of the sauces I used on my fries, or maybe the combination of the aforementioned, this meal did not last long. Needless to say, I won’t be back. I really should have gone to the Sonic.

Wow great service! I love it. Oh and them Root Beer floats are AMAZE! So many items. The Long John’s here seems to be fresher(not a word I know) than others. But I’ve never tired an A&W restaurant location so this was a good experience. Lots of different types of burgers and fries. Felt so classic and old timey. Again this franchise had some cool down-to-Earth dudes working. Nothing peppy or over-the-top(If you’ve read my reviews or know me personally you should know by know I hate peppiness) just like talking to dudes who work at a barbershop. Not mad, prices where meh. Okay. Might need to swing by a few more times to get a better feel for it,

I had the worse experience at this location at 9:27 pm on 7-9-2012 with a skinny older man looked to be 50 yrs old running the Drive thru. I waited 16 minutes total from the time I ordered for an order of clams and a pc of chicken totaling $ 3.77! For waiting 16 minutes in the drive thru I wasn’t offered anything extra or comped for waiting 16 minutes for food! There were only two cars ahead of me when I ordered so I know they were already sitting there for 1 – 2 min while I was looking over the menu! This was the WORSE experience I have ever had in a drive through in my entire life and that is why I feel so compelled to waste my time REVIEWING! When I get home I realize they gave me 8 packs of tarter sauce when I asked twice TWICE for cocktail. Upon eating my food my chicken wasn’t thoroughly cooked and my clams were more doughy than crispy! I thought I was on some sort of TV prank… that’s how horrific and unbelievable this experience was. I would also like to note that I have NEVEREVER in my entire life went out of my way to complain about food b/c I am an extremely laid back person… but what happened tonight was totally unacceptable! On top of that my bag contained NORECEIPT! GOFIGURE they would leave that out!!! I am VERYVERYUPSET with LJS/A&W!!!

I was kinda disappointed that a nearby Long John Silvers /A&W restaurant along Beltline in Irving was closed, but thanks to a couple friends of mine, I’ve finally tried their food at this location near Valley Ranch. They have the best seafood, burgers, fries, and of course… their famous root beer. If you have the means, I would highly recommend going there.
