I was pleasantly surprised to find an all vegan Chinese restaurant on Long Island. We ordered the General Tso’s Chicken($ 6.99) and the Sesame Chicken($ 6.99). Each entrée came with either rice(white, brown, or fried), or lo mein. We both opted for the fried rice and shared an additional side of plain lo mein($ 2.00). Our meals were delicious and perfectly portioned. The mock meat was some of the best mock meat I have ever had, and I have been a vegetarian for 12 years. I look forward to the next time I’m in Islip so that I can dine here again.

To be honest, I am not a vegetarian– not even close. I love hamburgers and steak and pork and bacon. I only went here because my daughter is a vegetarian, and I wanted to have lunch somewhere that she’d like. I was absolutely impressed, and frankly a little shocked about how much I enjoyed the ‘steak’ and veggie platter I had. It almost(*almost*) had me reconsidering my carnivore tendencies. The place was very clean, service very good and ingredients very fresh. I would definitely eat there again.

A rare gem on Long Island. The place is very hip, clean and inviting. It is a take out style restaurant with style. You order your food and take your tray to your table. We each ordered the combo meals. Very tasty, not greasy, big on flavor. I love the bento style dish the combo comes in. Very affordable. The fresh juice drinks are delicious as well. We paid more for our drinks than our dinner. I hope they stick around, the place was pretty empty. It is so nice to have a vegetarian restaurant like this on the Island!

I lived in the city for the majority of my life and having an official veg spot in LI is already kudos enough. Even though the veg chinese style is perhaps the most«tame» it’s still very tasty. Only issue I have is you don’t really get all that much bang for your buck.

I just love this place and am so happy there is quality vegan Chinese food in my area. My favorite is the Kung Pao Chicken. I“ve had several other dishes as well and I’ve never been disappointed. You can get your food as an entrée only or as part of a combination with salad and a spring roll. You can also ask for a rewards card. They also have mixed fruit juices and frozen yogurt as well for the non vegan crowd. I go there quite often in the summer when I want a quick lunch.

Great place for a vegetarian; every single item on the menu is vegetarian(and possibly vegan). I had the mixed veggies, and one of the reasons for the three-star review is that when I asked the girl behind the counter what type of sauce came on it, she answered brown. When I got it, it either had some super light tasting white sauce, or no sauce, as it seemed not to taste like much besides the veggies. When I tried to explain that I wanted it in brown sauce, there was a lot of confusion(and phone-answering in the middle of talking to me) before I was finally told that some cooks make it differently than others. Strange, and I didn’t really need an explanation, but they were happy to change it for me. My boyfriend had the kung pao«chicken» which had a really delicious sauce, but far too much celery. He isn’t a vegetarian but still enjoyed the chicken substitute, and I myself don’t normally care for fake meat products or tofu, but it was surprisingly tasty. The spring rolls were crispy and the filling okay, but the scallion pancakes were greasy and kind of limp. Despite that, I would definitely go back for the countless vegetarian options.

Really great to have some quick, cheap vegan food in my hometown. Atmosphere leaves something to be desired but for a quick lunch or takeout it’s a great choice. Definitely go for the combo — great deal and you’ll leave feeling full. I generally just go with the straight tofu since I’m not really into faux meat, but I tasted a friend’s general tsao’s «chicken» and it was pretty tasty. However I think I will still stick with the tofu.

Went to Vege Favor again and it is now my go-to place when it’s just my daughter and me, eating because we really like it. My husband, not so much. I had the string beans and chicken with brown rice AGAIN. If I know something’s good, I have a tendency to always order the same thing. That being said, I’m still happy with the taste, as was my daughter, who also ordered the same thing! It was pinch salty but not enough to say it was too salty, for me anyway. I was a little sad to see that it was so empty for a Saturday night. I do hope this place gains a little more traction with the vegetarian fans out there. I think the space is just too big. The service was good and fast and the bathroom was spotless(as an aside).

I enjoy this place when I get done with a run and I’m only look to eat a small but filling low calorie vegetarian meal. Cabbage and tofu is my favorite. Very simple menu of different Chinese vegetarian dishes. It’s always empty when i go which I enjoy because I get to mind my own business quietly. I’ve gone a handful times since I’ve moved to Long Island and it does the job for cheap vegetarian food.

Wow this place is amazing. The food is great. The prices are great. The workers are so nice. The seating is nice. I ordered Kung pao and I don’t like celery so the switched it to green beans for me! That was great! Vegetarian or not you will love this place. It is super healthy and very good as well. I am shocked a place like this exists. I hope many more open. They need to come out east. If you want Chinese food but a healthier option, try this place. It will definitely fill that craving. If you are looking for the msg filled, greasy Chinese food you are so use to and love. You won’t like this. This is a non-meat healthy Chinese place.

Had the crave for some Bubba’s but Bubs was on vaca, so I ventured across the street to this spot I tend to laugh at while eating an Idaho steak burrito at Bubs spot. I had no idea walking in that this was a straight Chinese ‘fast food’ style spot. Be warned. If you’re cool with that, you can certainly find some good eats here without all the crud from your normal Chinese take out joint. This quote from Eddie Huang always sticks with me… «Your lunch combo costs $ 4. Do you think you’re getting good meat in that?» Think about it. Gross. Vegetables please! The menu is fairly simple and filled with things you’ve seen a thousand times. Sesame chicken, General Tso’s, mixed veggies, etc. standard Chinese stuff. The bomb part was a combo for $ 6.99, which snagged you a salad, entrée, spring roll and lo mein or rice. Sure, none of those were full-sized portions, but this baby will fill you up good. The food was decent and you walk away feeling like you’ve done some good for your body(even though you just had a fried spring roll) :-D This place gets an official 3.5 in my book. Def check it out if you’re in need of a quick meal on Main St.

Although I’m thankful a vegetarian fast food on Long Island even exists, Vege Favor is not a panacea. I had the pepper steak combo with fried rice, spring roll and salad.(Pictures posted.) It served to abate my hunger but the fried rice was more like Cuban style rice. The pepper steak had a ton of nicely sauteed peppers and onions but not enough steak. The salad was a typical Bento box type salad with a nice tangy dressing. The spring roll was ok; it seemed doughy rather than vegetably. I am not a Chinese food fan and that’s what this place is attempting to recreate.(I haven’t tasted the frozen stuff.) I would go back for the food because like to support these types of entrepreneurs. Even though it hasn’t the most memorable tastes, it feels nice to have the option. Sept 28 — I went back and ordered the chicken and green beans. The chicken looked more like beef but I did eat the whole thing. Also came with Lo mein noodles which are always good. Ordered the scallion pancake, spring roll and fried apple.

I stumbled upon this Chinese food vegan restaurant and fell in love. The roptions are plentiful, the food is delish, the restaurant is bright and welcoming. I ordered the«beef» with broccoli, veggie spring roll and vegetable lomein. Everything was delish. The lomein was a bit bland so I added duck and soy sauces to it. The prices are very very afforadable and they even offer a memebership discount card. I told my husband that we will be visitng weekly!

I’m not a vegetarian but enjoy being meat free every once in a while. This place does not entice me to become vegetarian. I am not a fan of mock meat and there weren’t many options that didn’t include this processed junk. I went with a hot and sour soup which was ok but could’ve used more vegetables and tofu. The spring roll was greasy and bland. The scallion pancake was ok but too greasy. I enjoyed the dumplings. I also tried the vegetable lomein which was ehh. Overall, not impressed with this place.

A solid spot for veggie-oriented Asian food. The combo meal is a bargain and everything is tasty. Get the purple eggplant in garlic sauce if you can.

Great place for Chinese vegetarian. Food is freshly cooked to order. They offer a combo for $ 7! It comes w salad, spring roll, choice of starch(rice or lo mein) and entrée. My sister had Gen Tso and I had a mixed veg dish. We were pleasantly surprised and will visit again. Staff is pleasant and will cook to suit.

As of 1÷8÷13 they have changed the menu. The combo deal is the same price but it lacks the free soup or drink. That doesn’t matter, though, because $ 6.99 for an entrée, salad, rice or lo mein, and a spring roll is still a good deal to me. The meal side is now 100% vegan and the yogurt and smoothie bar side still has 3 dairy yogurts, but it now has 1 vegan soy based vanilla yogurt :) Chicken Noodle Soup has replaced the Egg Drop and I think there are more entrée options than before(I could be wrong). Everything I said in my first review still applies, but I just wanted to update my review to let people know about the increased vegan presence.

Based on appearance and concept alone I was already prepared to give Vege 5 stars. I was seriously over joyed to hear about a fast, cheap, healthy vegi/vegan spot in this neck of the woods that was clean and chic! Finally a business that took over the hastily abandoned King Wok. Other vegetarian/raw places have cropped up in the area over the past 10 years and subsequently failed… So here’s the dilly-o. I’m almost in love with this place. I say almost because I so desperately want to be in love and eat here as much as possible. I’m a picky eater and could go pseudo-veg without a problem(except for fish!), so it’s not that I don’t like the food, it’s just that I think it could be improved. Like Russell H, I too have been searching for a Green Melody-ish place to fill the void it left Long Island. Mock meat and I have been friends for a long time. We’ve got no beef between us*. I’ve even unknowingly turned some of my friends into morningstar farms converts**. With that all that being said, I’m not overly ecstatic about the tofu(or tempeh? it’s very firm.) served in the dishes here. I found it to be almost sweet and with a hint of almond flavor. Mmm, strange. The sauces they’re all in seem less viscous than normal as well. I tried both the sesame and sweet and sour chicken, both good but light. The pumpkin soup was pretty good, a little chunky and probably could have benefited from a touch of cream. Sorry vegans, some of the dishes here would be much more well rounded with a touch of dairy. All but one of the appetizers are fried. The one exception was cake, creatively called the oriental roll. Now that was tasty! Vanilla cake and a sweet cream inside. My spring roll, not so much. Bland city, population: Vege Flavor. I have NOT and will NOT give up on Vege after one meal. I plan on going back for many more. Not only is this place absolutely and completely adorable on the inside, the combo special is HUGE for a mere $ 6.99. You get an entrée, app, soup or drink and rice in this organized bento box. There’s tons of juices, frozen yogurt, dishes without tofu and pot-stickers to try, too! I’ll be hungry and I’ll be back for more !! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * Ha! See what I did there? ** Morning star farms makes helluva delicious mock chicken and turkey patties, corn dogs, buffalo wings, etc.
