I found the pollo guisado/stewed chicken tasteless and ultimately inedible. The maduros were good, but how can you mess that up? We ordered some chicken fingers for my friend’s kid: mediocre. Interestingly, this restaurant is some kind of chain — or at least, it’s related to a restaurant by the same name in Florida. I found this out by going to the website on their takeout menu. Anyway, this review isn’t based on much food, but what I did have was grossy.

This restaurant is a relative newcomer to the Roosevelt line-up. It tries to combine Chinese and Latino food, which is not a bad idea. I’ve heard the rice-dishes take more of their cue from the Chinese side, but the other more Hispanic items on the menu are solid(as far as I can tell; note I am not hispanic). I always get the ropa vieja, which is super meaty and garlicky; the lime chicken or shrimp, which are both light — I have not yet been disappointed. Sure, these guys are not pushing the envelope in the culinary arts, but they are providing clean, relatively healthy, pleasant food to a neighborhood that is sometimes overly saturated with establishments serving up unhealthy(albeit delicious) street food(read: taquerias, Indian buffet, etc).

As being a hispanic and a dominican person the food there is ok Their only excuse is that its also chinese infused. Its good to go for lunch or dinner for a couple of times. The first time they opened the food was fresh. Now it just tastes like old oil that was fried in the foods. Especially the mofongo. Everytime I go there I get this bloated feeling like i’m going to purge in any second. They are stingy with the avocados in the avocado salad. I was a regular not anymore. The food quality has worsened through out the months. Also they changed their menu like 3 x’s and now the great lunch special that was 5.95 for any 5 items is now 11. Very disappointed. The only good things are the waiter Karen their«spanish bento box» Which is whatever you ordered as a main dish and it brings mofongo salad and rice. The fried fish is good but now with the used oil taste it does not taste as great, and the frozen passion fruit slushies.
