Pollo Gus has become one my favorite lunch spots in Jackson Heights. Their lunch special is tough to beat. For $ 5.99, they serve ¼ of a chicken, rice w/lentil beans, and a side of chicken soup. The service is always pretty fast, the waitresses and chefs are always polite and friendly. The chicken, the past few times I’ve been here, they’ve been serving me the leg and thigh part which I really like. Gotta love that dark meat. The green sauce they make is also bangin! I think it’s mayo base, with lime and guacamole. The rice and lentil beans here is what makes this lunch special even better. Most places serve black beans or pinto beans. It’s nice to have something different. The soup is also very refreshing. It’s a strong chicken broth with veggies and a piece of chicken. Verdict — A really top notch spot for lunch in this area. I had lunch here 3 days in a row. The food is always good and fresh. I often see many employees from Elmhurst Hospital here. The only downside is that they do not accept credit. Cash only.

i ordered a weekend special with steak but the steak was extremely low quality… i tried but i could barely chew on it because it was so dry old and fatty. it barely cut with a knife let alone my teeth… i ended up throwing all of it away. the chicken was good and sides were tasty but the steak i’ll pass next time

I cant believe i haven’t updated. Im sure i wrote this review being hangry. I have been coming to this restaurant almost once a month. All for the almuerzos, talk about feeling like it is home-cooked! My boyfriend loves their food too and he is not Ecuadorian! This place is small, reasonable prices and yummy!

I dont know, I see alot of negative reviews, but based on just one occurrence. I frequent this location for lunch either weekly or bi-weekly. I often times order the ¼ chicken with rice and lentils and salad. for 6 bucks, you cannot go wrong. The chicken is usually very tender and the lentils are out of this world tasty. If I feel like being a hog, I order the carne frita with lentils salad and sweet plantain. Definitely a winner in my book, the meat is tender and flavorful. The salad is fresh as usual with a pretty decent dressing. The only complaint I have is that sometimes it takes a while for you to get your food. And on one occurrence I wanted chicken breast with rice and they brought back thighs instead, and when I asked about my order, she said they ran out, which of course would have been nice to inform the patron who specifically ordered the item. BUt aside from that, its a good place to come and eat. DOnt bother looking for décor in here. Its not meant to dazzle, its meant to just sit and eat and then leave lol.

Best Ecuadorian style food ever. It’s well presented with a amazing taste. Best dishes are the ceviches, encebollados and the chaulafan(Ecuadorian style fried rice). Try it!

They didn’t really speak English so the waitress asked me if I wanted thighs or breasts by pointing to her own. The food was good, in a way cheap food can sometimes be more satisfying than a fancier alternative. But it was just all around uncomfortable to eat there. The tables and floors and probably every other surface in the restaurant is covered with an oily film, so that’s a bit of a turn off. Then in the middle of the meal, a homeless woman came by to ask for donations at every table. It took a while before someone who worked there decided to make her leave. When I left, I thought I’d eventually go back, especially since it’s such a good deal. But it seems now that each time I think about going, I feel an unsettling sense of dirtiness about the place.

Wow, yummy yummy yummy!!! Try the seafood chaulafan(fried rice) with lots and lots of aji(green sauce). The food gets a 5 but overall a 3.5 for the following: 1. As soon as I walked into the place it felt like a bakers oven, it was very hot and sticky in there. 2.The waitresses were chilling by a corner table, and didn’t bother to stand up nor greet me and my cousin. 3. They don’t sell alcoholic beverages, which was strange for a Latin restaurant. 4.The waitress took her sweet time to charge us. But its a 3.5 because of the very yummy delish food.

So they have the competition right across the street from them which is Pollo Mario. This restaurant serves the rotisserie chicken Ecuadorian style. It taste real good. During the lunch hours they have a meal that includes rice, beans, chicken, and soup for only $ 4.50. They also have dinner specials as well. I would definitely recommend trying this place as an alternative to the other more expensive restaurants in the area. The service was also friendly and fast as well.
