My colleague and I ate here last night and enjoyed an excellent meal. First impressions were great with a very personable waiter followed by a charming encounter with the chef/owner. The food was really impressive. Each dish seemed perfectly presented on the plate, and the menu was quite eclectic and really well balanced. Cajun tinged Italian food — hearty, tasty and elegantly conceived. Bravo!

Wow. this place shot straight to the top of my favorites! Great environment and off the charts awesome food! I had a Groupon for it coming close to expiration and kept procrastinating using it because I thought the place was too low end, too casual for my likings. Eventually, my husband and I decided to give it a try while we still had a solid back up plan in mind, in case we didn’t like it. The parking lot was full and the dining area was packed, which is good news. First thing I noticed was the live music — I usually run for my life when there is live music in a restaurant but wow, this time, I actually liked it. The singer was an older guy and his performance was calm, pleasant yet uplifting. I don’t remember ever liking live music anywhere before, so that was an exception. Next I noticed that 99.9% of the customers were elderly, except us that is :) Huge plus on my list! I love places where there are older people! Nicer environment. and quieter. The waitresses were running around, the place looked understaffed and we had a tough time getting drinks at the bar while waiting for table. We were about to leave twice but ended up waiting and getting a table we liked. Then came the food.wow.seriously did not expect that! Had the meze appetizer, bread(just ask that they skip the oil on the bread).then the most amazing thing of all. BBQ Ribs! We have been looking for a place to our liking that has amazing BBQ Ribs and finally here it is! These were by far the best ribs I have had in any country on any continent! We shared a portion and still had some to go! Our waitress was new but did a very good job, especially considering we are pretty particular in our requests. Well done! I did smell smoke though a couple of times. and when leaving saw her smoke outside — huge no-no in the food service industry. Hope she reconsiders. We will definitely be back — sooner rather than later!

You know what… Eva’s was pretty tasty! The location is one of those cursed spots that always seems to have a different business moving in or out, and the décor inside leaves a bit to be desired, but the food was good! My friend had a Groupon, and neither of us had ever been before, so we walked in on a Thursday night unsure what to expect. A dated interior complete with blue carpet and white tablecloths beckoned us in, so in we went. After being seated at a table in the center of the room, I had the chance to look around more. The building itself is actually pretty cool. Weird little bench-couches inside, enclosed patio seating outside. Eva’s is set up nicely, but they could definitely do more with the space. Still, they keep it clean and the tables are set nicely, so that’s enough for me! Eva’s menu is nothing if not eclectic — Duck Spring Rolls, Greek Meatballs, and Louisiana Gumbo are the first three appetizer options. Weird! We decided to go Greek and ordered the Meatballs and a Meze platter.(Oh, and wine of course.) The Meze came with Spanakopita(a classic spinach and feta pastry), Tiropita(also a pastry), and a Greek salad. The flavors of both were solid and satisfying. No surprises, but that’s sometimes a good thing! The meatballs were warm and tasty, the pastries flaky and buttery. I would order both again. Overall, I liked my experience at Eva’s much more than I thought I would, and I’d like to go back to see how they do the other genres of food they offer!

The décor is very dated but the food was good. We waited a while after we ordered our lunch, but it came out piping hot. The Greek meatballs were a bit overcooked but very tasty– seasoned well. The souvlaki was juicy, tasty and fresh. The prices were great for the tasty food but atmosphere was leaving much to be desired.

Eva’s is the latest restaurant to rotate out of the building on 3rd that used to house a pizza place. The menu is an amalgamation of Cajun, Greek and assorted semi-fancy food options(there’s a duck salad, that sort of thing). Visited at lunchtime on a Thursday; the only other tables were a family of four and an elderly ladies’ bridge club of 8. The menu advertised Po-Boys and my family is from Louisiana originally so I was curious. I ordered the fried shrimp po-boy with a caesar salad instead of fries, and it arrived with the fries instead of the salad.(Another member of our party of four ordered the Souvlaki without a pita and it arrived with one, so I guess ordering precision is not job 1 for the wait staff.) Rounding out our orders: Greek Meze, and a blackened shrimp po-boy. One of my friends also ordered a margarita, which he said was unequivocally terrible and tasted like pure sour mix. Our food took about 25 – 30 minutes arrive after ordering; we were discussing the possibility of just walking out when it was finally served. My po-boy smelled extremely shrimpy but tasted fine. The caesar salad was your standard romaine-tossed-with-creamy-caesar-dressing business. Look, I’ll save you any more reading time by saying everything here, from the service to the freshness & taste of the food, was mediocre. We were all pretty disappointed overall and don’t have any intention of returning.

I had a groupon to Eva’s and the menu looked great so my friend and I decided to try it on a Friday night. We entered the front of the restaurant and waited a few minutes to be greeted even though there were two employees behind the bar. We were eventually seated by a friendly enough waitress and greeted at the table promptly. Our server was very attentive but the food and atmosphere was sub-par. The restaurant looked unkempt, tacky green velvet upholstery, mismatched chairs in a way that was not kitschy, just tacky. We ordered, jambalaya and a pizza bianco with salads. The side salad was different and decent. The jambalaya was mediocre with minuscule slivers of chicken breast, 3 or 4 slices of sausage and the rest of the sausage cut into tiny bits throughout the dish. The flavor was good, not too spicy. My friend’s pizza tasted of frozen dough and was topped with a slice of tomato and a few slivers of basil that looked to total 2 leaves over the entire pizza. The fresh bread brought to the table was topped with garlic and butter and would have been delicious save for the frozen/freshly defrosted taste of the bread. My friend and I also took advantage of the happy hour special, $ 6.00 for a glass of wine, 2 for 1. The pour was very scant, about ¾ ounces, not the average restaurant pour. While we dined, a musician began to set up and sing/play Christmas songs on a keyboard, very lounge lizard. When we were ready to cash out, our server brought us hand written tickets so as to suggest that Eva’s did not have a computer system for keeping track of orders. No one problem was so egregious as to keep us from returning, but in total, Eva’s was a bust. I’m surprised no one else has reviewed this restaurant under 3 stars.

Our first time at Eva’s Grill and Bar and we WILL be back! I ordered their Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf, probably the best meatloaf Ive ever eaten, including mine. I make an amazing meatloaf, so major props to the chef. The mashed potatoes were perfectly buttered/creamy and the seasoned vegetables served with just the right crisp. My husband ordered their Beef Short Rib Lasagna, after reading the rave reviews, he was not disappointed. Neither was I, because you know I had to have some of that lusciousness. The prices are well worth the quality and quantity here, we both took leftovers home that reheated just as delish as the night before. Oh, and try their Crispy Duck Springrolls, you won’t be disappointed. The hardest thing about coming back to Eva’s is convincing ourselves to try new dishes we enjoyed what we had that night so much. A lot of other restaurants have not survived this location, I certainly hope Eva’s do. They will have repeat customers in us and we’ll be spreading the word to others.

We had two entrees tonight. My date had Greek Meze because it was listed on the«small plate» side of the menu, and she wasn’t very hungry. It included spanakopita, Greek salad, tiropita, and dolmathes. Each item was fantastic and it was enough food for two of us, if we added an appetizer to the order. I had the beef shank lasagna. Completely different from any lasagna I’ve had before, and excellent.

Totally surprised by the Short Ribs Lasagna. Has to be one of the best marinara sauce I have ever tasted. The portion was just right.

On vacation and found this on Unilocal.Took a chance for lunch and the setting food and service were wonderful. Went back for dinner and loved it even more. However, also ordered the veggie pizza. Coming from Chicago this was disappointing, but everything else was great. Will definitely keep it on our list next time we are in Jacksonville beach.

Today I went to Eva’s for lunch, and needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. When you enter, you’re immediately greeted by their friendly staff. The décor is very home-like, and the furniture is comfortable. If you choose, you can even sit in a booth with couch cushions for extra comfort. When I was seated, I was handed the lengthy lunch menu containing a plethora of choices. They all seemed so good that it took me a while to decide. Finally, I settled on the pasta amatraciana dish which contains grilled chicken, bacon, spicy marinara, onions, and peppers over angel hair pasta. This entrée was cheap at only $ 7, and I received a lot of food. Not only was there a lot of it, the presentation was excellent, and its taste was magnificent. One particular aspect of the dish is that the pasta was cooked just right, and as an Italian myself that is important. Many restaurants tend to overcook the pasta, but this angel hair was cooked for the correct time period. The chef even gave me a complimentary sampling of the po-boy sandwich, which was filled with jumbo shrimp on a perfectly toasted French roll. Despite being full, I couldn’t leave without trying their desserts, so I ordered a cannoli and their chocolate chip cheesecake. If you can find a better version of either in this city, I’ll pay you $ 100. Words cannot describe how good these desserts were, and I suspect they were this way because they were made freshly and not with any pre-made or frozen ingredients. Overall, there is nothing bad you can say about Eva’s. The food is plentiful, high-quality, and very low cost. The service is exemplary, and the atmosphere is what you’d expect in a family restaurant. While most situations would invoke the phrase«you get what you pay for», Eva’s Grill & Bar is the exception. You get a lot while paying very little.

Only 4 stars because tonite was our first visit and top ratings are earned by consistency, but a great start. Used to be Marios, now a new owner, but a lot of the same staff. Very much a mediterranean orientation(italian, greek, but an interesting smattering of cajun themed items a few american comfort food dishes). I had the veal marsala. Egad – the first excellent veal entrée I’ve had in Jacksonville since I moved here 7 years ago! I hail from Wisconsin and Provimi veal and Mader’s german veal dishes and haven’t had anything close to that in years. Tonite’s was equal if not better than any Wisconsin veal dish I’ve had. Fork tender and a light, awesome tasting mushroom sauce. Spouse had an Italian dish that she felt was very good, but not quite the same as the dish she’s been trying to replicate down here as well(from New Jersey). They served us a complimentary appetizer sampler plate, kind of a new opening promo item giving us a taste of several of the appetizers. Very, very good. The greek meatball and the duck springroll particularly. They also have pizza and a small plate menu(which we would normally do, but I couldn’t resist seeing what they could do with veal), and daily specials. Definitely a return visit is on the agenda in the very near future! Two entrees, a glass of wine and two topshelf cocktails came to $ 60 before tip.
