I’ll confess that I only patronize on Friday nights, which is 80s/90s retro night &AREAWESOME. Drinks aren’t fancy, prices are average, usually there’s no cover(or maybe this is just us girls?); crowd watching is always interesting but I love to boogie on their dance floor!

Great selections of songs if you ask the DJ about songs that are not listed in books. No draft beers, only bottles and you get a free shot for your first time after you sing the first song. This is a dark place and it was difficult to get up on stage until I found out they have a side entrance. I went on a slow Tuesday night as there was only a dozen patrons. I forgot to mention they have a computer that saves all your selections and is the only place that has it. You can make your own selections without having to go up to the DJ! Cool!

It was dark, the music was loud and the beer was cold. I was in good company to being with. I met some of the patrons and they made me laugh, a lot. The music they played on Friday night was exactly what my 90s teen soul needed to hear. I loved the place and hope to return soon for their cosplay karaōke.

Four stars for longevity and for no smoking within its walls(patio only nicotine junkies) also for hosting Professor Whisky’s Traveling Bazaar Bizarre burlesque show Wizard of Oz Edition tonight. Cocktails must be basic and quick, they have beer and Angry Orchard. Bartenders are efficient, theme nights adhere to their theme. Bring your good attitude and you’ll have a good time – that’s advice for Life in general I know but it applies here too. Smile. Watch. Dance. Drink. Repeat.

I asked for a margarita and he made me a watered down tequila sour with a gross old piece of lime. Not even close to what I asked for and terrible. The bartender was at least a bit attentive even though he seemed too busy smoking hookah to work. Karaōke was kind of fun. However, the song list was terrible, and the computer kept glitching. Hello, ever heard of youtube? They have every karaōke song ever! A few screamers in the karaōke crowd and I wanted to take out my own ear drums. I will not be back even though it’s a cute dive bar.

Went for Tuesday karaōke. The website said it started at 9, but the DJs smoked hookah til 10pm. Drinks were watered down. Definitely NOT a professional business… One DJ sat at the booth doing nothing(not even changing the mic volume for loud or quiet singers, and the singers put their own songs into the computer!), and the other DJ who announced each singer sat outside, nowhere near the stage. Towards midnight the two DJs were arguing about who was up next. It was chaotic. The one saving grace? The bathrooms and seats seemed clean.

This bar has really approved! You can’t smoke inside anymore, the bartenders are great and they have no cover charge. They also play great dance music. Definitely a fun place to go!

Eclipse is a pretty cool place. It’s a nightclub that ditched the pretentious attitude most have, and seems to gear itself more towards the alternative late 20s-30s crowd instead of people barely old enough to drink. They have a wonderfully loud and clear sound system which is great as there’s music every night of the week. On the weekend it’s mostly a club environment: an 80’s night, a goth/industrial night, and frequent special events and touring DJs. During the week however there’s three karaōke nights and a 90s alternative night which lend to it the feel of an extra large and loud neighborhood bar. I personally enjoy the special event nights and when they have their resident DJs kicking out some good tunes. There’s indoor and outdoor areas, with most of the actual seating being outside. Drinks are decently priced and there’s always a special on.

If you are looking to hang at a filthy, smoky, shithole, look no further than Eclipse. We went for 80’s night several times and it’s always the same-old, same-old. A decade of music, but they always play the same set of songs. I would piss outside before I’d use their disgusting bathrooms, and bring a gas mask if you’d like to breath in that place. I’ve been to several places that still allow smoking inside, but you can’t walk in there without your eyes instantly burning. Never again!

Eclipse is my favorite bar in Jacksonville. The Staff is always friendly and the DJs are always pumping great tunes. Two(technically, three) of the best nights are Goth/Industrial Night on Sundays(called Sunday School) and Karaōke on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Karaōke nights have their down times, as all do, but when it’s up, it’s up. Great atmosphere. Back in the fall, Eclipse held an after-hours party that was one of the best nights that I’ve ever had at a club. Each DJ built off the set of the DJ before him. The energy was great straight through to the morning. Quite a number of Jacksonville locals have seemed to give up on Eclipse for other Industrial Nights, etc. It’s their loss. Eclipse is still a great place to go and have a drink.

Dark Gothic Industrial Club. I’ve never seen it pack out but it’s defiantly not dead. Kind clientele but more of an older crowd, I’d say 30 – 45. Nice and relaxed atmosphere where you can listen to goth oldwave and have a few drinks. If you’re looking for a meat market this isn’t the place.
